Chapter 33: Scorpion and Devil Fruit

Chapter 33: Scorpion and Devil Fruit

About twenty minutes later, the ship Lily was on successfully docked at the island. It was a very small island, and three quarters of it was covered by mountains. There was only one small village. However, Lily and the others just needed to replenish a few barrels of fresh water, so the size of the village didn't matter much.

But when everyone arrived at the island, they felt something was wrong. It was too quiet, the whole village was too quiet, there was no sign of life at all. It was noon, but there was no smoke from the village in front of them, no one on the road, and except for the sound of the wind blowing, everyone could not hear any sound.

"Everyone on alert. You, and you, go back to the boat and inform the big sister. Everyone else is not allowed to disperse. Pay attention to your surroundings." The battle team leader ordered two people to go back to the boat to inform Lily, and the remaining ten people huddled together on alert.

Leading the people behind him, the combat team leader slowly approached the largest house. He knocked on the door gently, but no one responded. He knocked again, and then quickly put his ear to the door. There was no movement from inside, and the other brothers looked inside through the window and didn't see anything either.

"3, 2, 1!" The team leader kicked open the door. The room was full of dust and no one was inside.

"Search in groups of two to see if there are any clues." The combat team leader said as he lit the oil lamp hanging on the side of the door.

After a while, the four groups came back and found nothing.

"Team leader! Come quickly! We found a body!" the people in the fifth group shouted loudly.

The battle team leader rushed up in one step, and in a small room on the second floor that looked like a storage room, two skeletons were scattered on the ground.

"Hurry, see if the big sister has arrived, call her over immediately." The combat team leader ordered.

After a while, two younger brothers brought Lily upstairs.

When Lily saw the two skeletons, she immediately felt something was wrong. They were too clean. They did not look like rotten bones. They looked more like skeleton models in a hospital. But that was not right. The texture of these bones was real bones, not models. Moreover, judging from the color, hardness and other conditions, these human bones had been exposed to the air for less than a week.

Lily gently stroked the bones with her hand, and found something wrong. There were some tiny lines on the bones. These were not the lines on normal bones. It was as if someone had used a knife to gently scratch them, and then made tens of thousands or millions of scratches on them.

"Insects?" Lily suddenly remembered the story Wanshou told her. There was a man who destroyed a dead body by throwing it into a nest of carnivorous insects. Unexpectedly, these insects only ate meat and not bones. In the end, the bones were found and the murderer was caught.

The corpse Wanshou described was very similar to the one in her hand. Lily raised her head and asked:

"Does anyone know any special insects on this island?"

"Insects? I really don't know that. This island is a subsidiary island of Ubo Island. It has no name and even few ships dock here. After all, there is a better Ubo Island, so no one wants to come here." The navigator who got off the ship with him thought about it but couldn't come up with anything.

Lily frowned, looked out the window at the other houses, and gave an order.

"Everyone, search all the houses in groups of two. If you find corpses like this, report to me. Everyone, please be careful. There should be carnivorous insects on this island, and in large quantities."

"Yes." After hearing Lily's order, the crew members dispersed to search. After a while, someone reported finding corpses. Some were under the beds, some in the cellar, some in the warehouse, and some on the street.

Lily checked the corpses one by one and confirmed that they were all eaten clean by insects. This answer gave the crew members a collective chill. Just thinking about having insects crawling all over their bodies and these insects using their mouthparts like small knives to tear off their flesh was terrifying.

"You guys return to the ship as soon as possible, sail directly out of the port and wait for me on the coastline." After Lily finished speaking, she walked directly to the hill behind the village without waiting for the crew to reply. Lily had a hunch that she would discover something extraordinary this time.

The others wanted to persuade Lily, but after thinking about Lily's strength and knowing that crickets were no problem for her, they didn't say anything more. After finding the well in the village and filling it with fresh water, they immediately sailed away.

The camera returns to Lily. Lily is walking along the obvious trampled traces on the ground. Her observation Haki is fully activated. The trees and weeds around her are guiding her way. As Lily goes deeper, a faint sweet smell appears. As a doctor, Lily immediately reacts that the air here contains toxins, but these toxins have no effect on Lily, who is a ghost.

Lily quickened her pace and after a few flashes she came to a mound of earth and released her Observation Haki towards the ground. In Lily's Observation Haki, she saw dense swarms of scorpions crawling underground. The number was so large that anyone with trypophobia would definitely collapse.

Just when Lily thought she had found the culprit for the destruction of the village, a different breath appeared in Lily's senses. It seemed to be a scorpion, but this scorpion was too big, at least two meters long. This was definitely not normal.

Lily chased the scorpion all the way and finally came to a big pit. Standing on the top of the pit, Lily looked at the large and small round holes on the walls around the pit. After a while, scorpions crawled out of the round holes and gathered in the big pit, but these were not the ones Lily was looking for. After waiting for a while, a round hole began to shake violently.

With a "bang", a huge scorpion jumped out from inside. Other scorpions made way for the big scorpion. When the giant scorpion landed on the ground, it turned into a pretty little girl in a white dress, who looked about 7-8 years old. She had pink semi-long hair hanging on her shoulders and big watery purple eyes.

[The user of the fruit ability!] Lily thought of it immediately, but she didn't say anything. Although the little girl in front of her gave her a good feeling, the feeling in her heart was not directed at this girl, at least not completely directed at her.

Lily watched the little girl walk to the circular platform in the middle of the pit. Just when Lily thought the little girl was going to say something, she saw her pick up a scorpion that looked like amethyst. The scorpion swung in the little girl's hand and made a series of clicking sounds with its pincers. As the crystal scorpion moved, the other poisonous scorpions began to become restless. For a while, the whole pit was filled with the clicking sounds of the pincers. It took a while for the pit to quiet down.

Then, the amethyst scorpion swung its tail again, and the scorpions below made way for it. The little girl walked down holding the crystal scorpion, and then a group of poisonous scorpions rushed forward and dug up the earthen round table. When the scorpions dispersed again, a strange fruit appeared.

[Devil Fruit!] Lily tensed up instantly. It was a lavender devil fruit, crystal clear and very beautiful. There was a branch hanging from it, like the poisonous hook on the tail of a scorpion.

At this time, the scorpions made way again, and the crystal scorpion in the little girl's hand began to dance again, as if telling the little girl something.

As if she understood what the crystal scorpion meant, the little girl walked slowly forward, gently picked up the purple fruit, and looked at it from left to right.

Then, to Lily's surprise, the little girl opened her mouth and prepared to bite.

In a flash, Lily appeared in the center of the pit, stood in front of the little girl, and snatched the devil fruit away.

"I didn't expect there are still fools in this world who want to eat two devil fruits. Being too greedy may cost you your life!"

The scorpions rioted!
