Show the sword, start from the guerrillas

Chapter 183 Chapter 182, Farming? No, this is the War of Resistance!
One wild jujube tree + one jujube branch = a new jujube tree. After one year of growth, it accumulates nutrients and grows, and bears fruit in the second year. One tree can produce about three to five kilograms of fruit. What if there are 1000 such jujube trees? What if there are 10000 such jujube trees? As the jujube trees grow, will the yield increase?
Of course, we also need to eliminate the problems of reduced production caused by pests and diseases. But the final benefits are still considerable. After all, the jujube trees do not need to occupy arable land, and they even grow with the help of the roots of the original jujube trees on the mountain, which will not have a negative impact on existing agricultural production.

The guerrillas put aside their training and started farming, which seemed to have nothing to do with fighting. However, farming, during the Anti-Japanese War, was fighting!
The real grain-producing areas in the areas occupied by the Eighth Route Army were the Jizhong Plain and southern Hebei. Why did the Japanese choose the Jizhong Plain for the May Day sweep? It was to attack the Eighth Route Army's food source!
Without sufficient food supply, even if you are given a full set of American equipment, you will be starving and there is nothing you can do! Many generals and officers of the transport captain have experienced this...

Therefore, any sensible person would not destroy the production of grain at will! Prime Minister Cao ordered that grain fields should not be trampled, which shows that he is truly sensible. Well, you said that the Eagle Sauce is burning grain-producing areas? ? What kind of ethics and honor can an organization formed by a group of robbers have? As long as that small group of people are not starved to death, it's fine.

It is already April, and the sweet potato vines in the nursery are as tall as a chopstick, so it is time to plant sweet potatoes.

After completing the grafting work, Li Yuexuan finally started what he thought was the most important thing this year. Do you remember the four corn cobs in his bag? Yes, Li Yuexuan planned to plant these four corn cobs in the field to conduct a breeding experiment. Denghai 4, with proper water and fertilizer management, is a high-yield crop with an output of 4 kilograms per mu.

So the question is, is Li Yuexuan going to simply plant the four cobs and use them as seeds for planting? Wrong, he wants to breed them! That's right, breed them!
Although he himself has become younger after traveling through time, his physical fitness has also improved to a very high level, and he even seems to have integrated with certain functions of the mobile phone, and has the help of an auxiliary panel, but he can't guarantee that these four sticks picked up from other people's fields will also undergo some alienation after traveling through time? For example, they will maintain their reproductive ability and even increase production?
So, how to use these 4 corn cobs is the new problem he has to face! And this new problem has many small problems. The first question is how many corn seeds are there in these 4 corn cobs?
Corn cobs are very common and we have even eaten them, but who can tell how many seeds there are on a cob? So, the easiest way is to count them one by one!
What did you say? Take the corn kernels off and count them one by one? Is that stupid? Li Yuexuan pulled out a cob and counted them. There were 17 rows, and then there were 37 corn kernels in each row, a total of 629 kernels.

Although this number is not accurate due to the irregular arrangement of the bottom and head of the corn cob, it can be used as a reference standard. Well, 4 cobs, with a total of 2500 kernels, can plant 2500 corn plants and grow 2500 cobs. But this is not the way to calculate it, because it needs to be bred.

The basic method of breeding is hybridization! Although corn is a hermaphroditic plant, pollination can be done on the same plant or on different plants, but this process can be intervened by humans.

I have to say that corn is a very good plant. From a seed grows a corn cob underneath, the red cherries that pop out are female flowers, and the top ears that grow on the top are male flowers. In the absence of other plants, the pollen of the male flowers falls with the wind and can complete the pollination process by itself, which means you don't need to ask anyone for help!

Now, what Li Yuexuan has to do is to intervene in the pollination process to achieve the hybridization process.

First, he selected a large field and used the middle piece of land as the base. He directly planted more than 1000 corn plants and let them pollinate on their own without any intervention.

On the left and right sides of the field, 2 meters apart, he planted two new plots of land, each with 500 corn plants, as the male and female parent of the hybrid. As a result, he only had one variety, so he had to select two suitable hybrid varieties from the local area. So, one variety called Da Ma Ya and the other called Hong Yu Li became his choices.

The large horse teeth have large grains and high starch content, which are very suitable for feed and can also be used as a supplement to grains; the red jade grains have small grains, but there are many rows, and the germ contains a large amount of oil, which is also very good. Two varieties were selected, and 500 plants were planted on both sides of the experimental field. The rest of the time is to wait for germination and field management after watering. It is not the time to hybridize yet.

So how to hybridize? First, when the corn in the experimental fields on both sides is sprouting, the top ears are removed manually, leaving only the female ears. Then, pollen is extracted from the outermost male ears of the big horse teeth and red jade grains, and artificial pollination is carried out when the female ears are sprouting and can be pollinated.

At the same time, the female ears of the Da Ma Ya and Hong Yu Li plants on both sides need to be protected artificially when they are in bloom, so that the female flowers cannot come into contact with the male flowers of the same variety. Then, the male flower pollen of Deng Hai 605 is extracted from the middle field and artificially pollinated to the female ears on both sides to complete the purpose of hybridization.

All that remains is to wait for the plants to mature, look at the results of hybridization after harvest, and select the best hybrid grains.

In order to increase the number of experimental samples, Li Yuexuan also planted 200 plants separately, and then found all the varieties locally to conduct hybridization experiments.

Looks simple, right? But it's actually not that complicated. You just need to stay in the fields all day at the most critical time and do pollination with the most meticulous mind. At the same time, you also need to control fertilizer and water, master the fertilizer-water ratio, and get the best water-fertilizer effect.

No one interfered with Li Yuexuan's busyness. At first, they thought he missed the feeling of farming and was farming himself. But when Zhao Danian and others heard about Li Yuexuan's breeding plan, they paid more attention to this piece of land. It would be better to starve to death than to grow grain. Comrade Peregrine is actually growing grain! Once a high-yield variety is developed, how much credit will it have?
The monks all said that saving a life was better than building a seven-story pagoda. If we harvested a lot of food, we would save more than one or two lives! According to the monks, the pagoda would reach the sky!
Time passed day by day as the farmers and soldiers were busy. When the dry land was full of sweet potatoes and spring corn, everyone felt relieved. The rest depended on whether the weather was good this year!

Of course, everyone also hopes that the Japanese will not come to raid and destroy this rare period of safety.

But if the Japanese didn't mop up the enemy, what would they do in China? In May, the Japanese secretly mobilized their troops.
