Huayu: Hard fight against Zhang Weiping at the beginning
Chapter 661 New Assistant
Chapter 661 New Assistant
The elevator indicator light came on, and Gulina stepped out of the elevator. The first thing she saw was the huge logo of Star Entertainment.
Gulina stood at the reception desk, her fingers unconsciously clenching the resume folder in her hand. "Hello, my name is Gulina, and I'm here for an interview for the position of Chairman's Assistant."
Her voice was soft yet clear, and her eyes held a hint of longing for the future.
The receptionist looked up and sized her up, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes, before she gave a professional smile: "Please wait a moment, I'll notify HR right away."
A moment later, a young woman in a business suit walked over and gestured for Gulnazar to come in: "Ms. Gulnazar, please come with me. The other interview candidates are waiting in the reception room."
Walking down the softly carpeted corridor, posters of movies from Star Entertainment hung on the walls on both sides—*The Shallows*, *Taken*, *Painted Skin*, *2012*, *Pacific Rim*, and more…
Please wait here for a moment.
After the personnel left, Gulina finally had time to look around and immediately felt the oppressive atmosphere around her, which in martial arts novels would be called 'killing intent'.
Sure enough, four elegantly dressed young women were already seated in the reception room. They had impeccable makeup, fashionable clothes, and exuded the scents of different brands of perfume.
At this moment, all eyes were fixed on Gulina, filled with scrutiny, inquiry, and a hint of subtle hostility.
Almost immediately, Gulina knew that these girls, like herself, were competing for the same position, and there was an inherent, unspoken rivalry between them.
After adjusting her posture, Gulina placed the resume clip on her lap, gently resting her hands on it, trying to remain calm.
A girl in a red dress glanced at her, a half-smile playing on her lips. She whispered something to her companion, and the two exchanged a meaningful look.
Gulina ignored all of this and turned her gaze to the window, looking at the bustling streets below, silently analyzing her strengths and weaknesses.
She knew that her academic background was definitely not an advantage among the candidates. As a graduate of a vocational high school, she felt somewhat insecure when facing undergraduates and even graduate students from prestigious universities.
Time passed by, and the reception room was so quiet that only the girls' soft breathing and the ticking of the wall clock could be heard.
Every so often, someone would come in and call away a candidate. The number of people in the room gradually decreased, but the oppressive atmosphere did not ease at all; instead, it became increasingly intense.
Finally, when only Gulnazar was left in the room, the HR lady from before came in again: "Ms. Nazha, it's your turn. Please follow me."
Gulina took a deep breath, stood up, straightened her skirt, and followed the HR lady toward a conference room not far away.
Pushing open the door, she saw a man and a woman sitting in the conference room. The man's nameplate read "HR Director," while the woman had no nameplate. However, Gulina recognized her—Zhong Lifang, the general manager of Xingchen Entertainment.
Zhong Lifang has a capable demeanor. She is wearing a well-tailored black suit, her hair is neatly combed, and her eyes are sharp and bright.
But she remained silent throughout; it was the HR director who kept asking questions.
"Ms. Nazha, please have a seat." The HR director's voice was steady and powerful.
Gulina sat down in the chair opposite Zhong Lifang, placing her hands on her knees and maintaining an upright posture.
The HR director picked up the resumes on the table, carefully reviewed them, and frowned slightly.
"Gulina, you only have a vocational school diploma?" the HR director asked in a calm tone, but with a hint of inquiry in his eyes.
"Yes," Gulna answered honestly, without hiding anything.
The other person nodded slightly, a meaningful smile appearing on their lips: "To be honest, your educational background is the lowest among the candidates today."
Gulina's heart tightened, and her palms sweated slightly. She knew that one of her competitors in the room was from Tsinghua University, and she had just seen the cover of the other person's resume.
At that point, she had given up all hope for herself, but since she was already there, she just wanted to get through the motions as soon as possible.
Have you had any experience as an assistant before?
Gulina shook her head. Actually, she had just come to Beijing to develop her career. She happened to see this job posting and submitted her resume on a whim. She never expected to be invited for an interview.
The other person asked again, "How old are you this year?"
"I just turned 18." Gulina pouted, knowing that being young was another major disadvantage for her.
Are you single?
"single."
Gulina thought to herself, "What kind of questions are these? What does applying for an assistant position have to do with being single?" But she still answered honestly.
What do you consider your strengths?
The HR director then posed another frequently asked interview question.
"I'm pretty~" Gulna answered confidently.
This answer surprised both of them, as they seemed not to have expected her to respond in that way.
The HR director and Zhong Lifang exchanged a glance. Zhong Lifang still didn't seem inclined to speak. The HR director wanted to test her resilience: "The one in front of you is from Tsinghua University. Do you think I'd choose you or her? I'll give you a chance to convince me."
Gulina was utterly devastated; the person in front of her really was from Tsinghua University.
But realizing that he probably had no hope, he lost his fear. As the saying goes, "He who has no desires is invincible," so he simply said, "There's only one reason: if you reject me, it's just a matter of a word; but if you reject that Tsinghua student, you can brag about it for the rest of your life!"
After Gulina gave this answer, the two people opposite her widened their eyes and then burst into laughter.
The HR director smiled and shook his head: "Go back and wait for our notification. We will get back to you within three business days."
"Okay, thank you both." Gulina stood up, bowed to the two leaders, and then turned and left the conference room.
Leaving Star Entertainment, Gulina breathed a sigh of relief, suddenly feeling a sense of ease.
Inside the meeting room, the HR director smiled and asked Zhong Lifang, "Ms. Zhong, what did you think of this Gulina just now?"
"That's quite interesting~"
Recalling Gulina's performance earlier, Zhong Lifang couldn't help but smile. "But her looks are definitely the most striking. Big eyes, fair skin, and tall enough. In terms of looks alone, the others combined wouldn't be a match for her. Plus, she seems to have a good sense of humor too."
Gulina was unaware that her outrageous actions had left a deep impression on Zhong Lifang.
Ten minutes later, Zhong Lifang knocked on Zhang Chen's office door with a stack of documents.
In the chairman's office, Zhang Chen was leaning back in his large office chair, holding a document in his hand, his brows slightly furrowed, as if he was thinking about something.
Hearing the knock, Zhang Chen looked up and said, "Come in."
Zhong Lifang pushed open the door and walked in, placing the documents she was carrying on Zhang Chen's desk: "Director Zhang, these are today's interview results. Would you like to take a look?"
Why has Zhang Chen been searching for a personal assistant for so long without success? Because Zhang Chen's requirements are too bizarre.
He only had one requirement—that it clicked with him.
This kind of requirement is a disaster for HR. They're not afraid of specific requirements, but they dread vague ones. So they can only screen through the requirements first, and then let Zhang Chen choose for himself.
Zhang Chen picked up the documents, his gaze falling on the photos. When he saw the last one, his eyes lit up, and he almost blurted out, "Isn't that Gulnazar?"
Why would Gulnazar become my assistant? It seems like she has something bigger in mind.
But am I that big?
"How many interviews did you conduct today?" Zhang Chen asked casually.
“There are five in total, and they are all quite excellent,” Zhong Lifang replied.
Zhang Chen's eyes darted around, and a mischievous smile crept across his lips: "All five of them are quite outstanding, aren't they? Then can we take all five?"
Upon hearing this, Zhong Lifang rolled her eyes and retorted sarcastically without any politeness, "Are you going to be set up with a song and dance troupe too? Please, you're the chairman of Starry Sky Entertainment, the company is going public this year, can you please stop causing trouble?"
Zhang Chen was a little embarrassed by Zhong Lifang's retort. He touched his nose, put away his joking expression, and said seriously, "Okay, okay, I'm not joking with you anymore. Let's choose Gulina."
Zhong Lifang looked at Zhang Chen with some doubt: "I knew it, she's the prettiest of the five!"
Zhang Chen said in a serious tone, "It doesn't matter if they're pretty or not, I mainly like girls with lower education levels."
Zhong Lifang didn't believe his nonsense. She had seen Zhang Chen's eyes light up when he saw the photos before, and she curled her lip and said:
"No need to explain, I know you have to listen to your brother."
Zhang Chen was taken aback, then his expression became quite interesting: "Hey, you're the company's general manager, is it really appropriate to joke like this with the chairman?"
Zhong Lifang couldn't help but laugh at his pretentious act: "Alright, alright, I won't tease you anymore. I'll go tell Gulina to come to work tomorrow."
After saying that, Zhong Lifang turned and left the chairman's office, leaving Zhang Chen there alone, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
……
After leaving the Star Entertainment Building, Gulina felt a mix of anticipation and trepidation. She knew she was unlikely to be accepted, but she couldn't help but feel hopeful.
She walked slowly down the street, her mind replaying the interview scene. Just then, her phone rang, displaying an unfamiliar number. Gulina took a deep breath and pressed the answer button.
"Hello, Ms. Gulina, this is Zhong Lifang." Zhong Lifang's voice came from the other end of the phone.
"Oh, hello, Mr. Zhong, I'm Gulina." Gulina's heart started beating a little faster.
"Congratulations, Ms. Gulina, you've been hired by Star Entertainment. Come to work at nine o'clock tomorrow morning." Zhong Lifang's voice carried an air of undeniable authority.
Upon hearing the news, Gulnazar's first reaction was disbelief.
Yourself?
You got the job?
Despite having the lowest educational background and no work experience, he still made boastful remarks during the interview. How did he get hired?
Despite what happened later, Gulina still said, "Thank you, Mr. Zhong! Thank you to the company for giving me this opportunity. I will definitely be there on time tomorrow!"
"You're welcome. There's one more thing I need to tell you about, regarding the dress code for work..."
……
The next day, Gulina reported for duty on time, and Zhong Lifang personally trained her.
"Remember, you are the chairman's personal assistant. No one except the chairman has the right to order you around."
"Okay." Gulina stuck out her little tongue, feeling that this job was pretty impressive.
"Furthermore, you are Director Zhang's personal assistant, so you are responsible for everything about him: his eating, drinking, and daily life. You handle everything from recording his daily activities to booking flights and hotels, including his clothing choices..."
Gulina gasped, but Zhong Lifang continued talking to herself, "Besides these, there are some special job duties..."
Gulina's heart skipped a beat. Special job duties?
She wasn't completely unaware of this; she had heard the saying, "When there's work, the secretary does it; when there's nothing, the secretary does it."
Zhong Lifang could tell from her expression that the other woman was overthinking things, but she didn't intend to correct her and continued:
"The special kind of job I'm referring to is one where, sometimes, you might have to take the blame for your boss."
Zhong Lifang spoke in a calm tone, as if she were talking about something very ordinary.
Gulina was stunned. Was she going to take the blame for her boss?
This was the first time she had ever heard that an assistant's job duties included this.
Seemingly noticing her confusion, Zhong Lifang further explained: "For example, sometimes female celebrities might try to pounce on the boss. At that time, you have to find a way to resolve this awkward situation and prevent the boss from getting into unnecessary trouble."
After listening to Zhong Lifang's explanation, Gulina finally understood. She thought about it carefully for a moment and then nodded: "President Zhong, I understand. If I encounter this situation, I will try my best to find a way to handle it."
Looking at Guli Na's determined eyes, Zhong Lifang smiled with satisfaction: "Very good, Miss Nazha, I am very satisfied with your performance."
……
Zhang Chen arrived late today, at 10:30 a.m.
He had only just reached the door of his office when he noticed an extra table outside, and behind the table sat Gulina.
Upon seeing Zhang Chen, Gulina immediately stood up and bowed respectfully: "Chairman Zhang, good morning! I am your new assistant, Gulina, and I will be responsible for all your needs from now on."
All needs?
Zhang Chen stopped in his tracks, his gaze falling on Gu Lina, who was wearing a black suit, a white shirt, and black stockings...
In awe.
It has to be said that Gulnazar's figure is truly top-notch. The formal attire perfectly accentuated her curves, and the skin faintly visible under the white shirt and her long, slender legs encased in black stockings were captivating to behold.
Zhang Chen subconsciously straightened his tie, feeling his breathing become rapid.
"Who told you to dress like that?"
Gulina looked at herself in a panic: "It's Manager Zhong. She said it's my first day at work, and I want to make a good impression on you."
Zhang Chen's lips twitched, and he thought to himself: This Zhong Lifang is getting more and more... understanding.
"Okay, here's your first task~"
Zhang Chen shifted his attention: "Help me find out what famous IPs Universal Pictures has and compile a list for me."
"Okay, Chairman Zhang, I'll check right away."
Gulina quickly agreed, feeling relieved. The first task assigned by Director Zhang didn't seem too difficult.
