Chapter 156: Petyr and the Kingslayer

Chapter 156: Petyr and the Kingslayer

After several days of sailing, the merchant ship finally arrived at King's Landing in the dim light of dawn. The sea breeze blew gently, bringing a hint of salty and bitter air.

Petyr had been tortured beyond recognition during the voyage of the past few days. His face was pale, his body was hunched, his eyes were bloodshot, and his clothes were disheveled.

Petyr put on a simple disguise, then stumbled off the boat, his steps unsteady, as if he would fall at any moment.

When the tax collector at the port saw Petyr, he was horrified and thought he had encountered pirates.

The tax collector asked anxiously, "Lord Petyr, what has happened to you?"

Petyr replied weakly, "Don't ask any more questions. Arrange a carriage for me quickly and don't attract anyone's attention."

The tax collector quickly responded, "Yes, sir, I will prepare it for you and take you to the Red Keep."

Petyr gasped and said, "No, take me back to my residence first. I need to rest."

The tax collector said quickly, "Okay, I'll do as you say, sir."

He quickly asked his servants to find a carriage and quickly called two guards, intending to escort the weak finance minister to his residence first.

Sitting in the shaking carriage, Petyr thought of the twenty sailing warships, filled with resentment, and couldn't help cursing Gavin in his heart: "Damned bastard!"

He clenched his teeth, his face gloomy. Fortunately, the news of the successful loan from the Iron Bank has not yet reached King's Landing, and no one should know about it yet.

Otherwise, the loss of twenty Man O' War would be enough for Robert to hang him.

As long as Robert can be dealt with as quickly as possible, this matter will not be exposed. As the Chancellor of the Exchequer, he can easily let the Iron Bank count the loan as the next heir to the Iron Throne.

The only thing worth worrying about is that Varys's little bird is omnipresent, and maybe it has already reported his whereabouts to the other party at this time. His embarrassment will inevitably arouse Varys' suspicion, and the intelligence from Braavos will be regularly transmitted back to King's Landing, and then he will no longer be able to control his own destiny.

Thinking of this, a hint of ruthlessness flashed in Petyr's eyes. He knew that he had to seize every moment and must not have any hesitation or delay.

"Success or failure depends on this one move. I will make everything go according to my plan." He swore secretly and clenched his fists unconsciously.

After a while, Littlefinger returned to the luxurious yet slightly depressing house, and the sound of his boots hitting the ground echoed in the empty hall.

He quickly returned to his room, picked up a pen to write a letter, and then called a servant.

Upon hearing Petyr's summons, the servants hurried over, bowed, and waited for their master's orders.

"Go to the Red Keep and bring Jaime Lannister to me. Remember, be secretive and don't draw attention." Petyr stared at his men with sharp eyes.

The waiter hesitated for a moment, then said cautiously, "Sir, what if Ser Jaime doesn't come?" Petyr snorted coldly, "If he refuses to come, you will give him this letter and tell him that the matter will be exposed soon and he will bear the consequences at his own risk! Do you understand?"

The attendant quickly responded, "Yes, sir, I understand."

Petyr waved his hand, and the other party quickly retreated to carry out the order.

After Petyr sent the letter, his tense nerves finally relaxed a little, and his heart was relieved. He looked down at his disheveled clothes, which were wrinkled and stained with dust.

"That won't do," he muttered to himself, and then hurried into the bathroom.

When Jaime Lannister arrived, Petyr appeared in front of him and had restored his former image as the Chancellor of the Exchequer. He was dressed neatly, his face was clean, and his eyes were shrewd, as if the previous embarrassment had never existed.

As soon as Jaime Lannister entered the room, he rushed to Petyr in rage, grabbed his collar with both hands, and asked loudly: "Why does Gawen Belleris know these secrets? Did you tell him?" At this moment, Jaime's heart was filled with anger and fear. He knew very well that once this secret was exposed, the consequences would be disastrous.

Petyr had a slightly sarcastic sneer on his face, and said lightly: "Be gentle, Ser Jaime, this has nothing to do with me. Queen Cersei received a letter long before Jon Arryn died. Obviously, the one who sent the letter was Gawen. He obviously knew these secrets a long time ago, but he used this incident to let us get rid of Jon Arryn." As he said that, Petyr calmly handed a letter to the other party.

Jaime let go of Petyr, took the letter, and asked suspiciously, "What is this?"

Petyr raised his lips and said sarcastically, "This is the letter that Gawen sent to the queen. It details the secrets between you and the queen, and the truth behind Jon Arryn's death."

"The King of the Narrow Sea threatened that if Robert doesn't die, our King will receive the same letter in a month." Petyr observed Jaime's reaction coldly, feeling proud that he was in control of the situation.

After hearing this, Jaime became panicked and shouted angrily, "No matter what, I will not kill Robert. I will take Cersei and the children away from King's Landing as soon as possible and return to the Westerly." He secretly swore in his heart that he must protect his family.

Petyr sneered. "You are courting death, Ser Jaime. Robert will be angry and slay the Lannisters in the westerlies, just as he did the Targaryens. You are already a kingslayer, so what's the harm in killing another king?"

Petyr knew that these words would deeply irritate Jaime, and he wanted to force Jaime into a desperate situation.

Jaime was so excited that he could hardly control himself. He suddenly reached out and grabbed Petyr's collar, his eyes wide open, and asked angrily: "Littlefinger, what do you mean?"

Petyr showed no fear and said coldly, "Robert must be killed, and the action must be quick, otherwise all of our heads will be hung on the city walls. Also, arrange for me to meet the queen in the evening."

James frowned, caught in an indecisive struggle, struggling internally between morality and the survival of his family.

Seeing this, Petyr stared at Jaime and said, "If Ser Jaime has made up his mind, please make arrangements quickly. After tonight, I will leave King's Landing and flee to Essos. Of course, you can also leave King's Landing and wait for Robert's army in the West." Petyr knew that he had to put enough pressure on Jaime.

Jaime's face was terribly gloomy. After a long silence, he finally sighed helplessly, his voice hoarse and tired: "Okay, Littlefinger, you can take the secret passage by the sea tonight. But I warn you, don't play any tricks."
