Chapter 168 Joffrey's Party
The Red Keep - Throne Room
A lavish banquet was taking place, specially hosted by Joffrey for the nobles who had pledged allegiance to him during the day.

The hall was brightly lit, and the nobles were dressed in gorgeous costumes, toasting each other, and laughter echoed in the air.

Joffrey, the great emperor, sat on the Iron Throne, looking at the servile nobles below who took turns coming to flatter and toast him, and an irrepressible pleasure surged in his heart.

I couldn't help but roar in my heart: "Everyone will eventually submit to me. I am the King of the Seven Kingdoms and the master of the Iron Throne. They must be loyal to me and serve me."

The nobles' words of loyalty during the day were still echoing in his ears, and their flattery at this moment made Joffrey feel extremely powerful.

He glanced around the hall triumphantly, his eyes falling on the gorgeous decorations and the nobles.

Joffrey raised the corners of his mouth slightly, revealing an arrogant smile.

He enjoyed the feeling of being respected, as if the whole world was under his control.

He felt that he was the master of his own destiny and no one could defy his will.

"Clang, clang, clang" the rapid sound of bells rang out into the hall, breaking Joffrey I's intoxication.

The banquet fell silent for a moment. Everyone was talking and wondering about the sudden sound of the bell. Some royal nobles suddenly became nervous. The frequency of the bell sounded familiar yet strange.

When Janos Slynt heard the sudden bell, his heart suddenly tightened. The blood color on his face faded instantly, turning as pale as paper. His originally greasy face now showed only panic.

As the commander of the capital garrison, although he is greedy and unfaithful and is often criticized as a fool, he has risen from a humble background to the commander of the capital guard and has a certain amount of power and status. He is not completely useless. His professional sensitivity allows him to realize at the first moment that this is the bell of an enemy attack.

Janos Slynt's mind was in a mess, and all kinds of terrible thoughts came flooding in. "Enemy attack? Who is it? The Royal Fleet rebelled? But the nobles of the Royal Fleet are all at the banquet?"

"What on earth happened? Can someone tell the king?" Joffrey's impatient voice came from the Iron Throne. The bell rang at such an inopportune time. Its rapid frequency disturbed his banquet and his interest. The rapid bell made him feel uneasy and angry.

Everyone at the banquet fell silent when they heard the king's question.

"Your Majesty! This... this is the bell of enemy attack!" Silint's voice trembled, breaking the quiet atmosphere of the banquet.

The nobles stopped what they were doing, the smiles on their faces froze instantly, and they began to whisper to each other.

There was a commotion in the hall, and everyone looked at Joffrey nervously, waiting for the king's instructions.

When Joffrey heard what Janos said, his face suddenly darkened.

He glared at Genos, as if he wanted to vent all his anger on the commander of the capital's garrison. "Enemy attack? In my King's Landing? Who is so bold?" His voice was filled with anger and majesty.

The nobles looked at each other, their hearts filled with fear and anxiety. This sudden enemy attack broke their original peace and made them fall into deep panic.

Genos lowered his head in panic, beads of sweat appearing on his forehead.

He tried to calm himself down and started thinking about how to answer.

Jaime on the side interrupted and said, "Your Majesty, we must strengthen our defenses immediately, close the gate of the Red Castle, and send someone to check for news." Jaime Lannister's words saved Genos who was in trouble. He couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. He was instinctively afraid of the moody Joffrey.

Joffrey stood up from the Iron Throne with a defiant look on his face, like a proud lion.

He shouted, "I am the king. Someone dares to attack the king's capital. I will personally chop off his head." His words were full of arrogance and arrogance, as if the whole world was under his control.

Hearing Joffrey's words, Cersei, who had been promoted to the Queen Mother, immediately became nervous. Her eyes were full of worry and anxiety. Seeing Joffrey's impulsiveness, she hurriedly said: "Joffrey, you can't go. You are the king, and your safety is related to the fate of the entire kingdom."

Joffrey looked at Cersei with dissatisfaction and said loudly: "Mother, I am the king. I cannot let others invade my capital and do nothing. I will let them know how powerful I am."

Cersei patiently advised, "Joffrey, it's too dangerous for you to go out now. We don't know who the enemy is or how many there are. The king should stay in the Red Keep and command the soldiers to fight."

Joffrey frowned, but still said unwillingly: "I am the king, I can defeat them."

Petyr on the side said respectfully: "Your Majesty, we never doubt your courage and strength, but you have loyal Kingsguard and commanders you can trust. Just leave these matters to them. You only need to sit on the Iron Throne. The Red Castle also needs the king's protection."

Seeing this, other nobles also stepped forward to dissuade him, and finally persuaded Joffrey to stay in the Red Castle and no longer go out to cause trouble.

Joffrey was dissatisfied. He sat back on the Iron Throne with a gloomy look on his face.

Jaime ordered the defense of the Red Keep to be strengthened, then rode his horse and led his soldiers towards the direction where the bell came from.

As soon as he walked out of the Red Castle gate, Jaime saw several gold-cloaked men running towards him in a panic.

Their faces were pale and their eyes were full of fear, as if something terrible was chasing them from behind.

When the golden robes saw the fully-armed James, they rushed forward as if they had found their savior.

"Ser Jaime! Enemy attack! The dragon... the dragon is breathing fire!" a man in a golden robe shouted in a trembling voice, his face full of panic.

"Dragon? Enemy attack? What's going on?" James frowned and asked sternly.

"Sir Jaime, the royal fleet in the port was attacked! The dragon suddenly appeared and burned the warships in the port." Another golden robe said anxiously.

"The royal fleet has been destroyed, Ser Jaime." Another gold-cloaked man said in despair.

James' heart sank when he heard the news of the destruction of the dragon and the royal fleet.

"Stone Steps Archipelago!"

Jaime instantly understood who was the culprit behind the attack on King's Landing. Robert had been preparing for the war to conquer the Stepstones, but the war had not yet begun.

Now Robert has been poisoned to death, and Joffran has to bear the consequences of provoking the dragon king. Will the other side break through King's Landing? What should be done? Can King's Landing be defended? Will the dragon-hunting crossbow prepared by Robert, the drunkard, work? Should he take Cersei and the others away first? Faced with the sudden appearance of the dragon, Jaime was in a dilemma.
