Chapter 28 A Cowardly Man
Chapter 28 A Cowardly Man
The young Taoist priest returned quickly and said that the abbot had agreed to let them stay for one night, but they would have to leave the next day.
The rooms in the Taoist temple are available for immediate check-in. Because society is too restless these days, young people often come to stay in the Taoist temple for a period of time.
"Young Taoist priest, you are so young but have such great magical power. You trapped such a powerful earthbound spirit just like that," Xiao Qian said admiringly.
The young Taoist priest looked down on Xiao Qian, with a smug air about him, as if to say, "You're so stupid, I'll tell you."
"It wasn't a big deal to begin with. There's nothing in Fengcheng that our Xuantian Temple can't handle. It's just that you businessmen from big cities insist on hiring people from some big place." The young Taoist said, glancing at Xiao Qian.
That's just how people in big cities are.
"So, everything in Fengcheng is controlled by your Xuantian Temple?" Xiaoqian asked humbly.
"More or less," the young Taoist priest said, even more pleased with himself.
"Our Taoist temple enshrines the deity Xuanhe. Do you know who Xuanhe is?" The young Taoist looked down on everyone, becoming increasingly smug.
"Is Lord Xuanhe very powerful?" Cheng Mai asked humbly.
"Of course, Lord Xuanhe was born of heaven and earth, benefiting all under heaven and saving all living beings from fire and water," the young Taoist priest said proudly.
"So impressive? No wonder Xuantian Temple is so famous." Cheng Mai clapped his hands like a seal.
The young Taoist priest started to get cocky, saying, "Our master was personally instructed by the Divine Lord Xuanhe; he is a highly accomplished Taoist."
Cheng Mai looked at the merchant's simple business and continued to flatter him.
"We've arrived. This is the place. You can descend the mountain on your own tomorrow morning. If you're here for tourism, please don't go to that construction site again." Seeing Cheng Mai's support, the young Taoist priest thought he was teachable and reminded him again.
"And you all, you should leave tomorrow. The affairs of Fengcheng will naturally be handled by the people of Fengcheng." The young Taoist priest adopted a dignified air and gestured to Xiao Qian and the others.
Xiaoqian chuckled, indicating that she understood.
"Senior brother, may I ask you one more question? Who is that old woman? Why is she so powerful?" Xiao Qian asked, lowering his tone.
The young Taoist was quite satisfied with this attitude. He then looked at Cheng Mai and saw that she also had a gossipy look on her face. He coughed lightly and said, "It's just a small earth spirit, but it's been around for a long time and has some cultivation. It's difficult for ordinary people to deal with."
"Indeed, if it weren't for Senior Brother's appearance, we might really be finished." Xiao Qian looked terrified.
The young Taoist priest became even more smug.
"Actually, this is mainly the fault of that General Manager Zhu. He didn't consult us before starting construction. That place used to be a place of execution in ancient times, and there are countless wronged souls there." The young Taoist priest lowered his voice and whispered, "A hundred years ago, a scholar offended the officials and was framed and beheaded. His mother died by running into the execution ground, and because of her strong resentment, she became a bound spirit. There was nothing wrong with that, but who would have thought that the people at this construction site would mix her son's bones into the mud and sand and build a house there, which is why the old lady went crazy and caused trouble."
So the old woman killed the worker who had mixed her son's bones into cement. Originally, the matter could have been resolved by holding a memorial service and compensating the deceased's family with some money.
Unexpectedly, the deceased's family caused trouble and refused to believe what the Xuantian Temple had said.
Mr. Zhu was even more of a fool; he actually invited other Taoist priests from their local area to perform the ritual.
Now look what's happened, we've completely offended that old lady.
They, the Xuantian Temple, have to go and take that old woman away again.
"Since you know there are spirits that bind the earth there, why doesn't the Taoist temple take them in?" Shang Xingjian suddenly asked.
"They haven't caused any trouble before, so we just give them a warning and that's it," the young Taoist said helplessly. "You should get some rest; we'll definitely have a lot to do tomorrow."
After the young Taoist priest finished speaking, he left.
He was muttering to himself, probably because he felt annoyed that Xiaoqian and the others had caused trouble and needed him to clean up the mess, which meant he had to work overtime.
After the young Taoist priest left, Cheng Mai and the others didn't dare to be too presumptuous since they were on someone else's turf. Xiao Qian and the others then consciously returned to their assigned rooms.
As for Cheng Mai, who had come to the den of thieves, she consciously followed Shang Xingjian the whole time. She was completely unreliable when it came to the idea of sharing a room with him. After all, only someone blind and utterly insensitive would fall for someone like the boss.
Seeing Cheng Mai casually lying on the bed, Shang Xingjian tapped the table, "Can't you have some self-awareness as a girl?"
Cheng Mai tilted his head and looked at Shang Xingjian not far away, then quickly crossed his arms and closed his eyes again, "The Divine Lord Xuanhe benefits the world and saves all living beings."
What's wrong with sleeping on a sofa?
Shang Xingjian walked to the bedside and stopped, narrowing his eyes slightly. He reached out to pull the person up, but his ears twitched. Before Cheng Mai could speak, he covered her mouth and climbed onto the bed.
Cheng Mai stared wide-eyed at the person who was standing right next to him.
The merchant gave a slight shushing sound, signaling her to be quiet.
There was a rustling sound outside the door, as if something was coming in through the crack in the door, and the sound was getting closer and closer.
Cheng Mai's heart pounded like thunder as he stared intently at Shang Xingjian, who was lying on top of him. Shang Xingjian remained calm, seemingly unconcerned about what had come in.
The thing seemed to circle the bed once before leaving, and the room fell silent.
Cheng Mai listened carefully for a moment, then pushed the person on top of him away.
Shang Xingjian, using the leverage, lay down on the inside of the bed and clicked his tongue, "Is this how you treat your savior?"
Cheng Mai regained his composure. "What was that just now?"
“You can think of a ‘sound-listening bug’ as a surveillance camera,” Shang Xingjian explained with his eyes closed. “Go to sleep. No one should be coming tonight.”
Cheng Mai: "You're just going to sleep like this?"
"Or should I sleep standing up?" Shang Xingjian asked without even opening his eyes.
"But……"
"Go to sleep. With me here, no one can take your brain away."
Cheng Mai, who was about to get out of bed, quietly pulled his leg back after hearing this.
We just share a bed!
"What, are you afraid you won't be able to control yourself and will do something to me?"
Cheng Mai lay down immediately, saying, "I'm not the mother of your child, you're blind and heartless."
What's there to be afraid of?
It's just sharing a bed, isn't it?
Thinking this, Cheng Mai closed his eyes.
However, Shang Xingjian slowly opened her eyes because of her words. Her gaze was as deep as a galaxy, making it impossible to understand what was contained within it.

Behind the Taoist temple, the abbot is meditating in front of the statue of a deity.
Zhu Biao was bound hand and foot and thrown into a corner. Next to the abbot stood a man in a Taoist robe, whose expression was slightly displeased.
"Master, shall we make our move now?" the man asked.
"You said that man is Shang Xingjian, the boss of Xuanhe Technology?" the abbot asked quietly, clearly referring to Zhu Biao.
Zhu Biao made a few muffled noises before the man pulled the rag out of his mouth.
“This is kidnapping! Kidnapping! I just asked someone I know to perform a ritual. You’re breaking the law!” Zhu Biao shouted. “Boss Shang is incredibly powerful. If he finds out what you’ve done, he won’t let you off the hook.”
"That cowardly man?" the man sneered. "What ability does a mere mortal have to stop us from leaving?"
