Chapter 149: Pregnancy

For their honeymoon, Ji Xuan and Wen Qi chose a domestic island, where they stayed for less than half a month before returning.

After staying at home for another three to five days, the two returned to work.

Their relationship after marriage was stable, peaceful and sweet. When Ji Xian was in the kitchen, Wen Qi would come over to help when he had free time. This gave Aunt Zhao and the others a bit of a novelty, but they got used to it over time.

Pregnancy came very suddenly.

Ji Xian was quite busy during that period. After the National Day holiday, she worked overtime for a week straight. She always felt very tired and didn't want to get up in the morning. She thought it was because she was tired, and even thought that her period was just a normal delay.

After all, her periods are sometimes irregular.

The temperature in Beijing suddenly dropped that day. Ji Xuan felt dizzy as she went up the stairs. She lost her balance and staggered back two steps, but her colleague next to her caught her quickly.

"Ji Xian, have you been working too hard lately? Your face is so pale, it's kind of scary."

Ji Xian paused for a moment, then smiled faintly, "It's alright, I'm probably just a little hypoglycemic."

After saying that, he thanked him again.

As she took another step uphill, she felt a spasm in her stomach and a slight stinging sensation in her abdomen.

“There’s nothing to apologize for. You often help me out, so I can handle things today.” My colleague looked worried. “But… are you really okay? Let me call you a car first…”

"No need, I'll take a break first. There are plenty of taxis outside." Ji Xuan urged, "Hurry up, or you'll be late, and it won't be good to get a complaint."

"Okay, then be careful. If you feel unwell, be sure to go to the hospital."

Ji Xian nodded emphatically, and only then did his colleague feel relieved enough to go upstairs.

The slight stinging sensation disappeared, and Ji Xian slowly walked downstairs, rubbing his temples. He felt that this couldn't go on, so he hailed a taxi outside and went to the hospital.

The doctor's assessment was that she was overworked and had insufficient blood and qi, so he advised her to rest more recently. Finally, he also performed a blood test.

After reviewing the results, the doctor asked her if she had started her period this month.

Because of the doctor's words, Ji Xuan was confused when she arrived at the obstetrics and gynecology department, and went through the same registration, consultation, and examination procedures again.

Then the doctor had her do a blood test to check her progesterone levels.

Then the doctor frowned and said, "You're one month pregnant. Don't overwork yourself lately. Get some rest. You're too weak and a bit malnourished. Where's your husband? Why did you come alone?"

Ji Xian was stunned by the news of the 'pregnancy' and stammered, "He... is at work."

"Call your husband over. Given your current condition, you need to be hospitalized for observation for a few days." The doctor paused, then asked uncertainly, "Should we keep the baby?"

"Stay," Ji Xuan said instinctively.

The doctor seemed relieved, nodded, and handed her a few forms. "Then go and complete the admission procedures." Ji Xuan walked out, sat on a bench in the payment hall for a while, and then picked up her phone to call Wen Qi.

Wen Qi was in a meeting when she saw her calling. He gestured for the person presenting the PowerPoint presentation to stop, and then answered the phone.

"what happened?"

His warm and deep voice was very soothing, a stark contrast to his cold and serious demeanor during the meeting.

Everyone at the conference table touched their noses in unison, exchanging knowing glances and winks.

Ji Xuan, who was on the other end of the phone, had calmed down and said softly, "Wen Qi, please come to the hospital. The doctor said I need to be hospitalized."

Upon hearing the word 'hospital,' Wen Qi's pupils contracted. Without hesitation, he stood up, waved to Ye Xueyan, and walked out of the conference room. "What happened? Are you injured, or something's wrong?"

"You'll know when you get here."

Ji Xuan kept it a secret, unable to say whether it was a surprise or a shock.

Wen Qi asked which hospital it was, and then immediately went to the parking lot and drove to the hospital.

When he arrived, Ji Xuan had already completed the hospitalization procedures and was admitted to a VIP single room. She was holding the hospital gown that the nurse had just brought in, and touching her stomach with one hand.

It seems unbelievable that a life is being conceived inside.

In nine more months, the little guy inside will be able to meet me.

Ji Xian stared at him quietly, then burst out laughing.

Wen Qi was bewildered by her laughter. Not understanding why, he saw her point to the list on the table.

He quickly picked it up and took a look, then froze completely.

After a long while, he mechanically turned to look at Ji Xian, who nodded calmly and naturally. "Yes, I'm pregnant."

As soon as he finished speaking, Wen Qi pulled her into his arms, let out a long sigh of relief, and then bit her earlobe as if to punish her, saying in a low, husky voice, "You scared me to death. You have no idea how scared I was the whole way here."

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have scared you." Seeing him like this, Ji Xian felt a pang of guilt and hugged him back.

Wen Qi kissed her cheek, nose, and red lips, then helped her sit down. "What did the doctor say? Why do we need to be hospitalized?"

Ji Xian repeated what the doctor had said, and Wen Qi frowned more and more as he listened, "Take leave from the company and take good care of yourself. You've really been too busy lately and haven't been taking care of yourself at all."

Ji Xian leaned against him, a smile playing on her lips. "You always talked about pregnancy and childbirth before, but I didn't really feel anything. Now that I'm actually pregnant, it feels kind of magical. Aren't you happy?"

"I'm happy, how could I not be happy that you're pregnant? I'm just worried about your health, afraid you'll overwork yourself." He gently pinched her cheek and asked in a consultative tone, "Can we put work aside for now?"

"Yes, I already called before you came."

"Do you need to change your clothes?"

"Yes, the nurse had me change my clothes and lie down."

"Then why are you still sitting here?" Wen Qi simply picked her up and carried her to the bedside, gently put her down, and helped her change her clothes. "You sleep for a while, I'll go to the doctor and then come back to keep you company."

Ji Xuan nodded. "Okay."

Wen Qi kissed her forehead, tucked the blanket in, and turned to leave the ward to find her attending physician.
