Chapter 27, Section 027: Eyes Reddened

The pressure to get married started a couple of years ago.

Sui Yi had told him more than once that Ji Xian was not suitable to be the young mistress of the Wen family, mainly because their backgrounds were mismatched. Sui Yi could not find any fault with Ji Xian.

Sui Yi is a typical daughter of a wealthy family, and her core belief is that marriage should be between equals.

Her marriage to Wen Jingyan was also a business arrangement.

Ji Xian's breath hitched; he seemed more concerned about Ruan Zheng than her.

Looking into her bloodshot eyes, Wen Qi's heart sank.

This was the first time he had ever seen her cry, and even without tears, she was pitiful enough.

Sui Yi nodded, feeling both relieved and sighing, "It's a good thing she cried. It's better for her to cry than to keep it inside. Ah Xian, thank you so much."

Ji Xian smiled and replied, "Auntie, you're too kind. It's hard for me to see Sister Ruan Zheng all alone, so I naturally hope she can get better and better."

"I'll go check on her, you guys eat first..."

Ji Xian pulled Sui Yi back, "Auntie, let's give Sister Ruan Zheng some time. She definitely doesn't want you to see her like that."

Sui Yi opened her mouth, understanding what she meant, glanced worriedly upstairs, and finally said, "Okay, I'll bring some food and go see her later."

Wen Qi took two tissues from the coffee table to wipe her eyes.

With her parents present, Wen Qi didn't insist. After seeing that she had finished wiping, he wanted to take her hand, but as soon as he raised his hand, Ji Xian lifted her leg and walked towards the restaurant.

She ate all the food he put on her plate during the meal.

The bowl of soup that was served to her remained untouched.

Because Ruan Zheng needed someone to take care of her, the two didn't stay long after dinner and drove straight back to Canglan Residence.

Throughout the journey, Ji Xuan leaned back in his seat, turning his head to look out the car window, never once glancing over.

Wen Qi figured that she was feeling down because of Ruan Zheng's emotions, so he didn't disturb her.

After arriving home, Ji Xuan stood at the bedroom door for a while, staring at the layout and furnishings inside. Just a few seconds later, Wen Qi walked over and asked softly, "What's wrong?"

Ji Xian shook his head, said nothing, and went straight to the bathroom.

The next day was the weekend. As usual, Ji Xian ate breakfast and then sat on the sofa with his laptop, either looking at documents or listening to foreign language translations.

"Miss Ji, the white roses for this week have been brought back."

Aunt Zhao walked over, holding a large bouquet of white roses in her hands.
