Chapter 34: The Fate Was Shallow

Chapter 34: The Fate Was Shallow

Ji Xuan moved out of Canglan Residence and moved into Shi Wan's place.

Shi Wan's house is spacious, with three bedrooms and two living rooms. She usually lives alone. She has a Napoleon cat at home, which is not afraid of strangers and has a very clingy personality.

Although Shi Wan said she could stay there indefinitely, Ji Xian was planning to look at houses.

The day after she resigned, she woke up with her usual biological clock and lay on the slightly unfamiliar bed. She was in a daze for a few seconds before she remembered that she was now an 'unemployed bum'.

It's really not something I'm used to.

Normally, she would wake up when her biological clock struck, as it was a habit she had developed over the years. But what was different was that whenever she opened her eyes, she would always see Wen Qi's handsome sleeping face.

"Why did you get up so early?"

As soon as she stepped outside, Shi Wan yawned and greeted her.

Ji Xian smiled and said, "I'm used to it. I usually wake up around this time."

"You're up at 7 for the 9 o'clock shift? Is Wen Qi really exploiting you like this?" Shi Wan said indignantly.

After saying that, she suddenly realized that she had already broken up with him, so why was she still mentioning him?
I'm so out of it this early in the morning, I'm completely out of it.

Ji Xuan didn't answer that question, but still had a smile on his face, and asked, "What time is your flight?"

"nine thirty."

She has accepted a business collaboration for cosmetics and is going to meet with someone today to discuss the details.

Before leaving with her luggage, she asked Ji Xian, "When are you planning to look at houses?"

“I need to go back to Luanying City in a few days. My second uncle has been discharged from the hospital for a week now, so I’ll go back and visit him. I’ll look at the house when I get back.”

After buying a house, you still need to renovate it, and you can't move in so quickly.

As for work, she's not in a hurry right now. She doesn't want to put too much pressure on herself and wants to take this opportunity to rest before thinking about work.

To be honest, with her experience as a secretary in President Linqi's office, she would have had a pretty good chance of finding a job in Beijing.

Without Wen Qi, she was far removed from the wealthy and powerful families in Beijing, and was no different from an ordinary migrant worker in Beijing.

Shi Wan entrusted her cat to Ji Xian's care for a few days, saying that if she was going back to Luan Ying City, she should leave enough food and cat litter, as she would be coming back in a few days.

Ji Xian finally experienced what it truly means to lie flat.

You don't have to do anything or worry about anything.

In mid-June, she returned to Jialing Town. Aunt Ji was stunned when she saw her and immediately asked, "Why are you back again?"

These words were a bit unpleasant to hear, but Ji Xian didn't take them to heart. He didn't mention resigning, but said that he was worried about his second uncle's condition and had gone back to take his annual leave.

Ji Heng works and lives in the city, and only comes back once a week.

Knowing that Ji Xian had returned, he drove back that very night.

Uncle Ji is recovering well after the surgery, and he looks quite healthy.

As soon as Ji Xian returned, her second aunt ordered her to do chores without any politeness. However, the sun was scorching, and seeing her delicate skin, she didn't let her go to the fields. Several times, Ji Xian wanted to go with her, but her second aunt pulled her back, telling her to stay home, take care of her second uncle, and cook.

A few days later, when Ji Nian came home from school and saw Ji Xian, she dropped her schoolbag on the ground, pouted, and called out "Sister" in a muffled voice.

I felt so wronged.

Ji Nian is 16 years old this year. She has a fair and delicate appearance, and is thin. She is not very tall, less than 1.6 meters.

"When did you get back?" Ji Nian asked, rushing up to hug Ji Xian.

Ji Heng laughed from the side, "Last time I came back from vacation, I knew you were coming back and then you left again. This grown man hid under the covers and cried all night. The next day his eyes were so swollen, like he had been beaten up."

Aunt Ji snorted coldly, "Look at you, so useless. You act like we've been abusing you while your sister's not home." Ji Nian ignored them. She had a three-day holiday this time and was like Ji Xian's little shadow, following him wherever he went, and even sticking to her when they slept at night.

Because final exams are coming up soon, and Ji Nian's foreign language skills are not very good, Ji Xuan became her tutor.

Ji Xian's days back home were fulfilling, while Wen Qi's days were empty.

Just like before, I live a simple life between Canglan Residence and the company, occasionally taking a break to go back to my old house for dinner.

On Friday, he went back for dinner again. Sui Yi glanced behind him and frowned. "Why are you alone again? Where's A-Xian? Why didn't you bring her with you?"

More than half a month has passed since Ji Xianshang returned to the old house.

Upon hearing this, Wen Qi remained silent, pursed his lips, and stepped inside.

Wen Jingyan went on a business trip a while ago and only returned today. Ruan Zheng also asked him, "I haven't seen A-Xian for a while. Why didn't A-Xian come back with you?"

"She resigned."

Wen Qi sat down, picked up his teacup, took a sip, and spoke in a low, indifferent voice, but a deep gloom hung between his brows.

Sui Yi and the other two were all taken aback. "Why did you suddenly resign?"

Wen Qi couldn't explain why either, but he remembered that Ji Xian said he was tired that day.

It's not just about their work, but more importantly, their relationship.

Ruan Zheng, however, grasped the key point, "Then you..."

Seeing that Wen Qi pursed his lips, his expression indifferent, and his eyes held a hint of melancholy and sadness, there was nothing he didn't understand.

They broke up.

She opened her lips, but ultimately said nothing.

Sui Yi and Wen Jingyan also understood the implication: they had broken up, so naturally, they couldn't continue with that job.

Sui Yi asked why they broke up, whether they had argued.

Unfortunately, Wen Qi was completely unresponsive, which infuriated Sui Yi. She vented her anger on Wen Jingyan, saying, "Well, he's truly your son. His personality is exactly like yours."

"You were able to get married thanks to your mother's decisiveness. Your son can forget about getting married in this lifetime."

With her hopes dashed, even the gentle and skilled Sui Yi was so angry that she scolded the father and son.

During the scolding, the father and son remained silent, letting her vent her anger.

But to their surprise, the more they acted this way, the angrier Sui Yi became.

They're all blockheads.

They can't even coax their wives, but when it comes to company matters, the two of them can talk at length and never stop.

The next day, Sui Yi called Ji Xian. At that time, Ji Xian was taking his second uncle to the hospital for a follow-up examination and did not receive the call. He only saw the missed call when he came back for lunch.

She hesitated for a moment, but then called back.

Sui Yi didn't offer any advice, but simply asked her a few questions about her whereabouts and work.

She could have kept quiet, but Ji Xian had to, and he sincerely thanked them for their care over the past few years.

Sui Yi sighed softly, "With Wen Qi's personality, you must have suffered a lot of grievances. Why are you apologizing to me? You didn't do anything wrong to me; it was Wen Qi who wronged you. In the future, come to our house more often."

Her last sentence wasn't just a polite remark; it came from the bottom of her heart.

It's a pity, but it's just that their fate was too shallow, and Wen Qi himself didn't know how to seize the opportunity.
