Chapter 6 An unexpected gain
Su Tai looked so obedient and docile that Shen Yi was dumbfounded. He simply couldn't connect the gentle Su Tai in front of him with the fierce woman from yesterday.

Su Changxi waved his hand and continued to pull Shen Yi to find a wellhead.

Just as Su Tai was about to leave, she heard Su Changxi point to a mountain peak next door and say, "That is also the territory of our Dongmen Village, but it is a bit far from the village. There used to be wolves on the mountain, so most villagers did not go there. After the drought, some animals in the mountains ran over there. Maybe we can find a suitable well there. If we can't find it there, then our village will really have no hope."

Today, he had selected two places in the village that were most likely to yield water and asked the villagers to try digging. However, after digging for an hour, the villagers were covered in dust and dirt, but they couldn't find any moisture in the soil they dug out. He really had no confidence.

Shen Yi stared at the mountain and pondered, "If there are jackals, there must also be some wild rabbits and pheasants. Animals in the mountains are most sensitive to water sources. If we can find a place where small animals gather, we might be able to find a suitable place to dig a well."

"Yes, yes, yes!" Su Changxi's eyes lit up considerably, and he hurriedly pulled Shen Yi over.

Su Tai thought for a moment, gritted her teeth and followed behind them. If she could find something valuable over there, the trip would be worthwhile.

Su Changxi was thinking about digging a well the whole way, and had no idea that a little tail was following him.

Shen Yi knew about it, but he didn't say anything.

When the three were almost at their destination, Su Changxi realized that Su Tai had followed them. He was so anxious that he could barely speak, "You, you, you, why are you so disobedient! There are wolves in the mountains, they will eat people! Hurry up and go home!"

Su Tai looked completely innocent. "I don't know how to get there."

Su Changxi: "Never mind! You can come along!"

Helpless, he could only keep reminding Su Tai to be careful.

After the three entered the mountain, they found that it was indeed much cooler than the outer mountain, and there were many more green plants. However, all the edible wild vegetables had been picked clean, leaving only some shrubs.

After walking for a while without seeing any small animals, Su Tai couldn't help but ask, "Village Chief, where are the wolves?"

Su Changxi was furious. She turned her head and glared at her, "You unlucky kid, if you can't speak properly, then don't speak!"

Shen Yi almost laughed, but he held it back.

Just then, he spotted a damaged trap not far away. He ran over, examined it, and used a twig to pick out what was inside. His expression was grave. "It really is a wolf. It must have been dead for some time."

Su Tai leaned closer and found that the wolf was a dried-up corpse, and she didn't know how long it had been dead, but its fur was still in good condition. She looked at Shen Yi with some interest, "Brother Shen, can I play with this?"

Now that she needed someone's help, her words immediately became sweet.

Shen Yi paused for a moment, then nodded.

Su Changxi scolded him impatiently, "Why did you have to play Dead Wolf of all games!"

He shook his head repeatedly. Knowing Su Tai's situation, he didn't say anything harsh or try to stop her. He just looked at Shen Yi with concern, "Do you still want to continue?"

Although finding a good spot to drill is important, he suddenly felt a bit apprehensive now that he had encountered dead wolves.

Shen Yi pondered for a while and said, "If it's still the same after another half hour, then we'll turn back."

It's getting late; we can't just head out of the mountain in the dark.

Su Changxi breathed a sigh of relief.

Su Tai put the dead wolf into the wicker basket, weighed it in her hand, and found that it wasn't very heavy, probably because it had dried out.

The three walked for less than half an hour before finally spotting traces of wild animals, and upon closer inspection, they discovered a large one. Su Changxi's face paled, and he quickly pulled Shen Yi back, "Forget it, let's get out of the mountain."

Shen Yi wasn't sure either, so he could only nod and immediately lead them back the way they came.

Su Tai was also frightened by the footprints and ran faster than a rabbit.

Su Changxi squinted and saw Su Tai carrying things on her back yet walking briskly, so he quickly followed.

After leaving the mountain, Shen Yi still had to go with Su Changxi to check on the villagers' well-digging progress. Su Tai immediately slipped away, running all the way home. Seeing that no one was home, she breathed a sigh of relief, closed the door, went into the time-space transfer station, and sold the dead wolf to the automated trading cabinet.

After a while, the screen displayed a detailed price. Although the wolf had been dead for several days, it had not rotted due to the hot weather and had become a dried corpse. Its fur was intact, except for two holes. Other parts could also be sold. The price given by the automated trading platform was 500 virtual coins.

Su Tai was overjoyed and clicked "Confirm Transaction," and her virtual currency balance became 502.

Five hundred virtual coins can upgrade the Water Dimension, but if she chooses to upgrade, she will become penniless again, and the villagers are in a hurry to use water, so she doesn't have time to continue saving money.

Now she has no choice but to grit her teeth and buy the right to use the Xiaoquanyan spring.

When she emerged from the time-space transfer station, Han was just returning with her two sons.

Su Tai quickly brought out the ton of water she had bought to quench their thirst. The water in the kitchen, which was full of river mud, was particularly fishy. It was fine for washing, but drinking it would easily upset their stomachs.

Han didn't think twice when Su Tai handed her the water. She took two big gulps before her eyes widened in surprise. "This water tastes like spring water, it's so sweet!"

Su Zhan nodded repeatedly, "That's right, it's especially sweet. Sis, where did you get it? I haven't had such delicious water in ages!"

Su Tai felt inexplicably nervous and was thinking of how to fool him when Su Changxi's voice came from outside, "Sister-in-law."

"Coming!" Han ran out.

Su Tai breathed a sigh of relief and followed them out, only to find that Shen Yi was also there.

Su Changxi asked, "How much longer until Chunlin returns?"

Han shook her head. "Village chief, it takes a whole day to get from here to the county town. A round trip will probably take until tomorrow evening. What's wrong?"

Su Changxi said somewhat embarrassedly, "It's because Shen Yi came to our village to help out that we'll have to trouble him again tomorrow. I was thinking that since Chunlin is going out, maybe your family could spare a room, so I came to ask."

"Oh! It's no big deal, just stay at our house!" Madam Han warmly went inside to tidy up, and asked Su Tai for help.

Shen Yi didn't rest after entering the courtyard. Seeing that half of the firewood had been chopped, he immediately went over to get to work.

Hearing the commotion, Madam Han, who was inside the house, peeked out and whispered, "Shen Yi is so diligent, what a pity."

"Mother, what are you regretting?" Su Tai asked, puzzled.

Madam Han sighed, "It's still your marriage! Back then, Shen Yi's father, Shen Ping, saved your father and the other three. Shen Ping was a ferryman who often helped the constables retrieve corpses. People thought he was unlucky and didn't like to associate with him. After he died, life became difficult for the widow and her children."

Back then, everyone was poor, and we didn't know how to repay this life-saving kindness. We agreed that whoever had a daughter first would marry her to Shen Yi, which would also relieve Shen Yi's mother of a great worry. The Mo family's daughter was born half a year earlier than you, otherwise you would have been the one engaged to Shen Yi. Shen Yi is such a good man, much better than that scoundrel Xiong Kai. It's a pity our two families weren't meant to be."

Su Tai blinked, remembering what Shen Yi had told her, and blurted out, "Mother, Shen Yi's engagement to the Mo family has been broken off."
