Knight and Wand
Chapter 95 Ancestors
Chapter 95 Ancestors
The fortress city was silent at night.
In the candlelit room, Leon was bored and waiting for Balfe and his group to fall asleep next door.
Corvis took off his gauntlets, held the jewel necklace, and slowly injected magic power into the instrument.
Olivia lay at the table with her chin in her hands, staring at the one-eye pattern on the blond boy's forehead and the magical item in his hand that she had taken from Doson's body.
The red light from the jewel necklace reminded the girl of how difficult it had suddenly made Baron Kantadar.
After a long while, Corvis took a deep breath and dispelled the magic pattern on his forehead: "It's OK, my Lord, now the 'Boiling Heart' can be used normally."
Leon took the necklace he handed over and saw the gemstone that had changed from translucent to red again. He couldn't help but ask, "How do I use this thing? Is there a switch?"
Corvis explained: "Its sensing range is very short. You only need to wear it close to your body and recite the Lorelit spell in your mind, 'Boiling, my blood' to activate the necklace when needed."
Leon nodded and silently memorized the short spell.
"Is this witchcraft?" Olivia asked in a low voice.
Corvis turned around and shook his head at the girl: "This is magic. From what I learned during my time in Kantadar, the 'witchcraft' generally recognized in the Western Continent should refer to the means of using magic and elements that some primitive spellcasters have summarized through their own exploration based on the ancient experience gained through words and deeds.
While effective, the process of casting spells without understanding them is often accompanied by uncertainty and the stability of spell effects is also poor, because they may not fully understand the reasons why their powers can work.
As for magic, I don’t know if there is a relatively systematic school of magicians in the Western Continent, but the Mage Society of the Atias Empire has mastered the concept of how to explore the causes of magic in the world. Every spellcaster needs to understand the composition and principles of the spells they cast.
Olivia listened to the explanation of the young man from a distant country. She nodded her head as if she understood it, and felt her eyes were opened.
"Corvis, you are really knowledgeable, so you must know a lot of magic?"
The girl looked at the other person expectantly. In her heart, this handsome boy seemed to have turned into those wise and mysterious white-bearded wizard grandfathers in the stories.
"Not much."
Corvis smiled, drew a seal, and controlled the fork that had been on the table for who knows how many years to float up and turn in a circle.
Olivia looked at the trick performed by Corvis and exclaimed in amazement: "It's amazing~"
"If you know the principle, it's not as magical as it seems. In your eyes, the fork is moving out of thin air, but in fact, I'm just manipulating the magic power to lift it up and correct the posture of the object at all times," explained Corvis.
As he spoke, he drew another circle of light with his other hand, and dragged the circle in front of Olivia with his fingertips: "This way you can see it."
Through Corvis's inspection spell, the girl's eyes widened, and she saw the torrent of magic power gushing out from the other party's hands.
Olivia couldn't help but reach out and touch the air between the boy's palm and the fork, trying to touch the flowing magic power.
But her arm stopped halfway, and the girl withdrew her rash action in embarrassment.
"It doesn't matter. The energy density of the magic power after the spell is stabilized is much higher than the density of magic in an ordinary person's body. You can't interfere with this spell."
Corvis raised his hand and lengthened the distance between the spell in his hand and the fork, indicating that the other party could touch the air in between at will.
Olivia blinked when she heard that, and happily raised her hand to reach for the stream of light shining from the round screen.
The girl's slender fingers tentatively slid across the invisible turbulence of magical power.
——Bang~
The fork fell back onto the table like a kite with its string cut.
Corvis's indifferent smile froze on his face.
Olivia was startled.
Isn't it possible to interfere?
She looked at the boy with surprise and worry, afraid that she had done something wrong.
Corvis looked at his palm, feeling the end of the extended magic flow dancing chaotically after losing the connection with the fork, and couldn't help but frown.
Could it be that I charged the necklace too much and my energy is a little distracted?
"Are you okay?" Olivia asked worriedly.
"It's okay, I might be tired." Corvis shook his head awkwardly.
"If you're tired, you can stay for a while. It's just right that if Balf and the others come looking for me, you can help me deal with it." Leon put on the magic necklace, heard the conversation between his companions, and said to Corvis.
Olivia looked at Leon in confusion, wondering where he was going so late: “Are you going out later?”
Seeing the girl's curious eyes, Leon smiled and said to her, "Want to see more amazing magic?"
"Yeah~!" The girl nodded expectantly.
"Haha, then come with me. I'll take you to an awesome place tonight."
late at night.
Taking advantage of the cover of night, Leon and Olivia tiptoed out of the back door of the house.
Guided by the moonlight, the two men ran a long way in the dark before lighting the torch with a flint.
Leon led the girl deep into the castle town, through the fountain square, and he revisited the place and climbed the long stairs again.
Arriving at the end of the stairs, Olivia looked at the towering rock wall in front of her, illuminated by the light of the torch, and couldn't help wondering, "Is this the place?"
"Yes, that's right."
Leon handed the torch to the girl beside him: "Hold my hand, and just follow me and walk in."
Olivia looked at his outstretched hand, and her face turned slightly red under the light of the flame.
She obediently held the other person's hand. Even though there was a thick glove between them, the girl's heartbeat was still inexplicably nervous.
Leon raised his fingertips and drew the trace of the identification seal on the rock wall.
(Gulorelit) "Respect to Lady Neti, the retreat, please open the way for us"
As the correct spell was uttered, Leon held the girl beside him tightly and pulled her straight towards the solid rock wall.
No obstacles were hit.
Under Olivia's surprised eyes, Leon's body squeezed out the rippling waves like sinking into the water and merged into the rock wall. Then, she was pulled into it as well.
The girl's eyes went dark, and when she could see clearly again, the scene in front of her was illuminated by a soft light.
The place is still the same place, but in front of me is no longer a rock, but a magnificent towering spire.
The light around her came from the mysterious crystals on top of the flying buttresses surrounding the main body of the tower. Olivia looked back at the way the two had come.
An illusory, hazy light curtain enveloped the platform in front of the tower.
You can see that behind the transparent light film is the long staircase leading down to the fountain square.
The girl felt a surge of excitement that sent tingling down her spine.
This immersive and wonderful experience shocked her more than her partner's previous magic of controlling objects out of thin air.
Olivia loosened her grip and turned her head to see Leon walking to the entrance of the tower and raising his hand to push the huge door.
The girl lowered her eyes and clenched her hands anxiously.
But she immediately shook off the regret in her heart and quickly followed.
The door creaked open, and the magic crystals surrounding the dome of the hall still illuminated the magnificent wizard's hall.
Leon entered the rotunda and looked around.
I didn't see Laura, so I don't know if she was in the workshop on the upper floor.
Just as he was about to take Olivia upstairs, Leon looked around and saw a distinct golden halo on the wizard's throne, so he stepped forward to take a closer look.
Stepping onto the steps of the throne, he took a closer look and saw that it was the golden magic card containing Miss Lola.
Leon was a little disappointed. He forgot to consider the time when the wizard lady would appear in the world. Maybe it was a coincidence that she happened to encounter the time when her spirit turned back into the Neti card and took a rest.
Picking up the card from his seat, Leon suddenly discovered that on the originally translucent crystal card, there was actually a detailed dynamic pattern similar to the card illustration.
The exquisite card depicts a half-length portrait of Miss Lola.
The girl in the platinum robe closed her eyes peacefully. She held the gorgeous golden scepter in her hand, and her long white hair fluttered behind her with the magical light.
"It's so beautiful. Is this also a magical item?" Olivia looked sideways at the card in Leon's hand and couldn't help but admire its exquisite appearance.
"Yes, there is a friend of mine staying here, but she may be resting now." Leon replied and turned it to the other side.
But I thought there would be the same portrait pattern on the back, but it turned out to be a white sun.
Leon looked at it carefully and felt that it looked very familiar.
Isn’t this the Holy Sun Wheel of the Church?
Before he could wonder whether the emblem on the back was made by Miss Lola, the Neti card in his hand burst into a dazzling light.
Unlike the first time the spirit was summoned, the entity of the Neti card turned into golden light particles and flew into the air. The magic light whirled and gathered. In a flash, the familiar petite figure reappeared in the world, and the girl in white robes fell from mid-air.
Leon was stunned for a moment, then he raised his hands reflexively and caught Miss Lola who fell in front of him.
His arms firmly held the wizard girl's shoulders and legs.
Before he could react, he had already held the other person's unusually light body in his arms like a princess.
Her long snow-white hair fell on Leon's arms. Laura held the staff and looked at the other's face blankly.
Leon suddenly became embarrassed: “Ah, sorry, I was afraid you would fall.”
"It's okay, but I can actually fly." Laura blinked her golden eyes.
No wonder the weight in my hand is as light as a feather, it feels like she is floating
Not daring to look directly at the pretty face of the mage lady so close to him, Leon quickly let go of his left hand and let her legs fall back to the ground.
Olivia, who witnessed the card in her partner's hand transform into a beautiful and noble white-haired girl, covered her mouth with her hands, too surprised to speak.
In order to divert attention from his careless behavior, Leon changed the subject and introduced the blonde girl next to him: "This is Laura, my wizard friend, and the owner of this wizard tower."
"Hello, Miss Laura. It's our first meeting. I hope my sudden visit did not disturb your rest."
Olivia reacted and saw the white-haired wizard girl holding a scepter and dressed more gorgeously and exquisitely than a noble. She hesitated, put her hands in front of her, and nodded respectfully.
"Don't be nervous, Olivia, I'm not a noble." Laura understood the girl's sudden cautious attitude and explained softly.
"You know my name? Did Leon mention me to you?" Olivia wondered.
“This is the first time you’ve met Laura today, but this is not the first time Laura has met you. It’s a long story, I’ll explain it to you later.” Leon said with a smile.
After saying that, he looked at the wizard lady again: "Luckily you showed up, I thought I had made a wasted trip tonight."
"It's not a coincidence. I sensed your approach. If I just show up for a little while longer, using the spell of this tower, the leyline will still be able to hold up."
Laura walked to the throne, stroked the hem of her robe behind her, and bent down to sit down.
"Is that so? Well, while you're still here, I'll tell you something." Leon informed the other party of the news that the town fort outside would be managed and built by the Farolis family, and explained his concerns about the existence of the Mage Tower.
Laura listened quietly and said comfortingly: "Don't worry, I used the earth veins to activate the entire defense system of this tower. Even if the visitor is another spellcaster as powerful as Aphrodite, it will take some effort to crack her spells. Ordinary people can't disturb me."
"That's good. But have you made any new discoveries while studying Ms. Aphrodite's magic in the tower these days?" Leon asked.
The wizard nodded. "I have reproduced the process of making the Neti card, but the material that makes up the card that now contains my spirit is too precious even when Aphrodite and I were alive. The remaining materials in the tower cannot produce a creation of that strength."
"Of course, we can still make something that has a similar function to the original inspiration for the Neti cards, like an item like a spell container. Come with me." Laura stood up from her seat.
Leon followed suit upon hearing that, but turned around and saw Olivia still standing there.
".I'll wait for you downstairs."
Olivia waved at Leon, not wanting to disturb him from talking to the mysterious wizard because of her curiosity.
But before Leon could answer, Laura turned around and waved to the girl: “Come along, Miss Olivia, I have something to confirm with you.”
"Me?" Olivia pointed at herself, her eyes full of surprise.
"Well, although it's just a guess, the possibility is very high." Laura nodded.
She then said to the blonde girl, "The concentration of magic in your body is surprisingly high by the standards of a normal human. Considering the area where you were born, if the situation is as I expect, you are likely the descendant of someone I know. I may know your ancestor."
"My ancestors?!"
