Chapter 33: Earthquake in the Capital
It was a peaceful night, the sky was cold, the stars were shining brightly, and everything was eerily quiet.

The people living in Huaihua Hutong are a group of people who can barely make ends meet. After nightfall, few people would light lamps and waste lamp oil.

In the long and narrow alley, only the light in Chen Ce's courtyard was still dimly on. Chen Ce went to the stone pier in the backyard to get the buried herbs. He could have gone to the market to buy more, but these Chinese medicines were not cheap and he still had some left at home. He thought that if he went there quickly and came back quickly, there shouldn't be any danger.

The poultry in the front yard had been moved to the area near the canal in the backyard. Chen Ce wanted to kill the male and female chickens, but he couldn't bear to do so. He simply continued to keep them in captivity, hoping that they would survive the earthquake.

The fence was not very high, so it was not difficult for the two chickens to jump over it, but they did not seem to have any intention of escaping. There were a lot of rice grains inside the fence. Chen Ce remembered that he did not feed so much rice. It was probably because Mrs. Wu fed them when she was washing clothes.

Chen Ce did not stay in the backyard for too long. He took the letter and went out, locking the door of the courtyard.

The stars in the sky seemed to disappear, the moon disappeared, and the last bit of faint light began to disappear.

Chen Ce suddenly had a very bad premonition and felt extremely nervous. It couldn’t be such a coincidence... right?

He had just prayed in his heart and hadn't quickened his pace when he felt dizzy. The scene he could see was very small in the dark, but he could clearly feel that the ground was tilting!

"Get up! There's an earthquake!"

Chen Ce shouted at the top of his lungs, but his voice was soon drowned out by the darkness. Only the light in Mrs. Wu's room next door was on.

If a person is abandoned by God, all kinds of disasters will always befall him. After being cautious for so long, why should he try to get something for nothing at this time? He has already paid so much money, why should he come back?
Chen Ce felt that he might not really have luck.

When he left the mansion, even before reaching Huaihua Hutong, he looked at the sky and found that everything was no different from usual.

As long as he went and came back quickly, there would be no danger. Besides, he didn't waste any time. Who could have known that in such a short moment, the most impossible thing would become possible.

Is it really impossible to fight against you?

Chen Ce looked up at the sky and felt a sense of powerlessness. Then he saw Madam Wu coming out with a lamp in her hand, her face pale, and she pulled Chen Ce into the house.

She spoke loudly, saying that Chen Ce could no longer hear anything and was too lazy to listen. It was just a different way of death. If he died in an earthquake today and tuberculosis tomorrow, what difference would it make?
What lofty ambitions, what fight against fate, he gave up, didn't want to struggle anymore, just waited quietly for death!

If you are lucky, you will be reincarnated as a king, a prince, or a general. If you are unlucky, you will die in the underworld. It is still better than having half your life hanging on like this!
"it's useless."

Chen Ce murmured to Madam Wu, "You will die faster if you go inside."

There are houses on both sides. If they collapse, it will cause a chain reaction. Even if you survive by chance, you will be disabled. Human beings are too small in the face of natural disasters. Chen Ce gave up struggling and looked desperate.

Madam Wu had always felt that Chen Ce had never been such a person. In just that instant, she seemed to feel that Chen Ce had become a different person. All his former stubbornness and unwillingness to admit defeat had disappeared, as if his spirit had dissipated.

She didn't know why Chen Ce was like this, but she knew it was definitely not because of the earthquake tonight. This was just the last straw that broke the camel's back.

Madam Wu had no time to think about it. She did not give up. She held Chen Ce's hand with her delicate hands and walked quickly into the house.

The house next door has begun to collapse, so it would be a little safer to stand in the yard than to walk into the house, but only a little.

Chen Ce thought it was ridiculous, but he didn't want to say much. He let Madam Wu lead him, just like his parents led him to visit famous doctors in various places.

The lights were still on in the house, and the adobe on the entire house began to collapse intermittently, faster and faster. I don't know how many people who were sleeping would be buried in the house. What surprised Chen Ce was that there was a big gong in Wu's house. She hit it three times with all her strength, which was deafening.

Chen Ce looked at her with admiration. This was a reminder to the neighbors around her. Although it would not help, at least she had a clear conscience.

Soon, Madam Wu led Chen Ce to the bedside. She squatted down, her face flushed, and mud kept falling and hitting her black hair.

Chen Ce almost subconsciously went to help, but he didn't have much strength and couldn't help Madam Wu much. However, with this little extra strength, he successfully lifted up the stone door on the ground beside the bed.

Chen Ce didn't have time to be surprised, and immediately Madam Wu pulled Chen Ce and walked away quickly.

The moment the stone door on the ground was closed, one could hear the rumbling sound of buildings collapsing outside, as well as people's roars and frightened shouts!
……

The ground collapsed like a mountain falling down. The entire Huaihua Hutong turned into a ruin in less than a cup of tea. The smell of blood filled the darkness. The cries of chickens, dogs and poultry fell silent in a moment. The earth was still shaking, and the entire Shuntian Prefecture was filled with chaotic and shrill roars.

The sound of gongs was deafening. Government clerks, the Five Cities Army, and the Jinwu Guards responded immediately. Frightened crowds could be seen everywhere on the empty streets.

Tang Yin had not fallen asleep tonight. When the earthquake occurred, he immediately notified all his classmates in the residence and they ran out. He was still holding Chen Ce's painting of winter snow in Peking in his hand, and was muttering to himself.

Is he really a warlock?

The classmates were filled with gratitude to Tang Yin. If Tang Yin had not reminded them, they would have lost their lives in the mansion.

Everyone thought that Tang Yin was frightened and had been sitting in the open space muttering to himself. No one knew what he was saying, but his face looked very shocked.

The classmates really couldn't understand the word "shocked". They didn't know why Tang Yin had such an expression on his face. They could understand fear, shock, and relief for surviving the disaster, but they couldn't understand shock.

How could Tang Yin not be shocked, because someone had reminded him of this, and it was his painting teacher.

As if realizing something, Tang Yin desperately turned his head left and right, but to his despair he did not find Chen Ce.

Tang Yin desperately climbed up and ran towards the residence. Several scholars immediately hugged Tang Yin and cried out sadly: "Brother Tang, they are all external things, all external things!"

"Don't go, don't go! Someone will die!"

What is more valuable than life at this time?

Have!
Tang Yin yelled, "Let me go! Let me go! There's still someone in the mansion who hasn't come out yet!"

His eyes were bloodshot, his face was filled with strong self-blame, his nose suddenly felt sore, and he shouted hoarsely: "I have to go save people, I have to go save people!"

"Let me go!"

Tang Yin was like a madman, unable to stand steadily, swaying from side to side. His classmates were helpless and finally pinned him to the ground. Tears mixed with dust blurred his vision. Tang Yin lay on the ground in a mess, looking at the house that had collapsed into ruins with despair.

There are still people...who haven’t come out yet!
