Chapter 3 Fighting the Bully

"Gululu..."

A rumbling sound came from her stomach. Su Xiaoxiao touched her stomach a little embarrassedly. The cornmeal porridge she had eaten last night was so thin it was like a pot of water.

Where should she get something to eat today? Memories of the original owner surfaced in her mind. There was a river nearby. She grabbed a sickle and turned to walk out the door.

"You two wait at home, I'll go catch some fish for you to eat!"

The two children looked at each other. "Mom, please take us with you! We're afraid the slave traders will come back and take us away again!"

The two children followed her around like little shadows, so she had no choice but to bring them along.

She knew what the two children were thinking and was afraid that if they ran away, they would sell them to human traffickers.

"Okay, let's go together then. I'll carry Xiaobao on my back."

She picked up the baby and gently pinched her chubby little cheeks. So cute.

How could she sell such a cute little child?

The three of them walked together toward the small river not far from their home. When Su Xiaoxiao arrived at the riverbank, she put Xiaobao down and picked up a sickle. She went directly to the edge of the woods on the bank and started cutting branches. She chose one that she was satisfied with and began to sharpen the branch with the knife.

Da Bao curiously leaned closer. He still had doubts about Su Xiaoxiao. After all, a person can't suddenly become good unless they've lost their mind.

"You don't want to make fishing rods, do you?"

"No, that's too slow. You two just watch!"

After saying that, a brand new harpoon was ready. Su Xiaoxiao's eyes lit up. She rolled up her trousers and stepped into the river.

She stared intently at the movements in the river, and soon she swiftly swung her harpoon, spearing a plump carp from its body. She then grabbed it with one hand and threw it onto the bank.

Su Xiaoxiao called out to Da Bao, "Da Bao, help Mom catch the fish and put them in the basket!"

Da Bao was clearly surprised that Su Xiaoxiao caught the fish so quickly. Although he looked incredulous, he still helped to put the fish into the fish basket they had brought.

Xiao Bao came over, clapping his hands happily and saying, "Mom is so amazing, right? We're having fish to eat today!"

Da Bao glared at her, "You think you're so great just because I caught you a fish?"

Xiao Bao didn't dare to say anything more. Catching fish didn't mean anything. Who knew that they might only be given fish soup and not even a bite of fish meat?

The weather was still quite cold in the river. After Su Xiaoxiao speared several fish in succession, she realized that she couldn't stay in the river any longer, or she would get sick from the cold.

Just as they were about to return to shore to reap the joy of their harvest, they discovered that there was an extra person on the shore—Liu Datou, the village bully who often harassed them, the orphan and widow.

She was just focused on spearing fish in the river, one after another.

Seeing that Liu Dazhuang had snatched all the fish he had speared, he pushed Dabao, who had come to stop him, to the ground.

Su Xiaoxiao was furious when she saw this. She rolled up her sleeves and rushed over, yelling, "Liu Da Nao, what do you think you're doing? You're over twenty years old, bullying two kids?"

Liu Datou hates being called "Big Head" the most. When he was a child, people would always scold him: "Big Head, Big Head, you don't have to worry about the rain, others have umbrellas, but you have a big head!"

Instead of bullying Da Bao and Xiao Bao, he turned around and yelled at Su Xiaoxiao, "Who gave you permission to spearfish here? Let me tell you, all these fish belong to me today!"

Su Xiaoxiao's eyes widened when she saw this. "Liu Datou, have you taken the wrong medicine today? Who gave you the courage? Let me tell you, you're not leaving here today unless you kneel down and kowtow to my Dabao to apologize!"

When Liu Datou saw that Su Xiaoxiao had really gotten ahead of herself today, he charged over, fists clenched.

Unperturbed, Su Xiaoxiao, while the two were still some distance apart, flung the harpoon in her hand, striking Liu Datou squarely on the foot. A piece of flesh was torn from Liu Datou's left big toe, and he immediately crouched down, clutching his foot and screaming.

"You ugly freak, you dare to lay a hand on me? I think you don't want to live anymore!"

Liu Datou picked up a stone from the ground and threw it at Su Xiaoxiao.

Su Xiaoxiao dodged, nimbly approaching Liu Datou, turning around behind him, and delivering a flying kick to his lower back.

Liu Datou lunged forward a few steps, but there was a small river in front of him. He couldn't stop in time and fell into the river.

Liu Datou couldn't swim. After he plunged into the river, he choked on several mouthfuls of water. After struggling for a while, he couldn't hold on any longer.

"He looks like he's about to drown!" Da Bao cried out. "Mom, he doesn't seem to be able to swim. He's going to drown!"

Su Xiaoxiao only wanted to teach this scoundrel a lesson. She had been bullied by him many times before, but she didn't want to kill him.

Su Xiaoxiao quickly walked to the riverbank, threw the harpoon in her hand at him, and shouted, "Liu Datou, catch him quickly!"

Liu Datou was about to drown, so he quickly grabbed the harpoon. With a strong pull, Su Xiaoxiao pulled him out of the river.

After Liu Da went ashore, he coughed up water for a long time before finally catching his breath.

"Su Xiaoxiao, you just wait, I'll get my uncle to deal with you!"

Liu Datou looked at Su Xiaoxiao with the fear of seeing a living ghost, and turned and ran away.

Su Xiaoxiao ignored all those uncles and aunts; she wasn't afraid. She turned to ask Da Bao and Xiao Bao.

"Are you guys okay?"

The two children were still in a daze. Their mother had been acting strangely since yesterday. In the past, when Liu Datou came, she would hide far away in fear.

Liu Datou just overturned the fish basket, and several of the fish he caught escaped. Now there's only one small fish left in the basket, which looks very pitiful.

The two children's tearful faces looked so pitiful. "Wait, Mommy will go down to the river and spear some fish for you!"

Su Xiaoxiao then went back into the icy river and speared up five more fish. These fish were even plumper than the ones she had speared before. She was quite lucky today.

There have never been so many fish in this river before; it seems like God is on my side now.

Just as I was about to take the fish basket back to make fish soup, I heard a commotion coming from afar.

"where is it?"

"They're still there! She pushed me into the river just now, I almost drowned! Uncle, you have to avenge me!"

Liu Datou's voice was hoarse from shouting. Next to him was a middle-aged man with a face full of scars, and a long scar that looked like a centipede ran through almost his entire face. He had a wicked look on his face and was obviously not a good person.

It seems they went to get reinforcements. Liu Datou's legendary uncle appeared, holding a stick in his hand, and walked towards Su Xiaoxiao and the others menacingly.

"You shameless little slut, you dare to bully my nephew? I'll beat you all half to death today."

When Da Bao saw this, he was so frightened that he picked up his younger sister Xiao Bao and ran away in the opposite direction.

"Hey, you two kids are really not being fair!"
