Chapter 784 A Quiet Place
Chapter 784 A Quiet Place
It was quiet, as quiet as death. The whole room was empty without a sound. It was so quiet that it was scary and frightening. I couldn't help but hold my breath, fearing that my own noise would disturb the silence. The depression and frustration weighed heavily on my chest.
Jeff Gallas never knew mornings at home could be so quiet.
If it were usual, at this moment one would be able to hear Jenna's nagging and Anne's protests. Anne always wanted to try some junk food, but Jenna always refused on the grounds of health. The war between the two would never end.
The sound of the school bus stopping at the door would be the beginning of another quarrel. Annie wanted to go back to school, but Jenna always thought that Annie's current health did not allow it, and then Annie would look at him for help.
Jeff closed his eyes, his mouth full of bitterness——
"Dad, I don't have any friends. I don't know any of the kids at school. If this continues, I won't be able to invite anyone to my funeral."
Then Jenna would scold Anne severely because she couldn't stand the word funeral.
Jeff felt a lump in his chest. What's wrong with letting Annie eat some junk food? What's wrong with letting Annie return to school and enjoy her school life like other children of her age...Are they too selfish?
Such silence is unbearable.
Jeff felt a surge of anger and just wanted to pick a fight with someone.
For no reason.
Looking up suddenly, Jeff saw Jenna in front of him. She was busy preparing breakfast, but she stopped in the middle of the process and stood there in a daze, her eyes focused on the void. Her soul had already gone to who knows where. There was no sadness or pain, just emptiness.
Anger built up in my chest, but it all dissipated in the end.
Jeff was a little annoyed and dropped his fork in frustration.
Clang.
The fork and plate made a crisp sound, which was particularly loud in the quiet room, like thunder.
Jenna woke up with a start and trembled all over, but she hurriedly concealed her panic, pretending to continue busying herself, and spoke in a panic.
"Okay, okay, it'll be fine soon."
Jeff felt a tightness in his chest as he watched Jenna trying her best to pretend that everything was normal. He also hurriedly lowered his head to hide his sight, fearing that he would accidentally reveal the fear and sadness in his eyes.
Suddenly, Jeff stood up and whispered.
"I just remembered that I have a meeting this morning. I'd better rush over as soon as possible. As for breakfast, I can deal with it after I get to the company."
Jenna was still trying to dissuade him, "I'll make you a sandwich right now..."
Jeff waved his hand, "No thanks."
He turned around and took big strides, almost running away. He just wanted to leave here, leave this suffocatingly quiet space.
Jeff suddenly opened the door and was about to rush out when he saw Levi who was about to knock on the door. Both of them were stunned.
Jeff's eyes widened, he was at a loss, and his voice got stuck in his throat.
Levi showed a polite smile, "Are you ready to go to work so early?"
Jeff shook his head and nodded again, his mind a mess, "You...Levi...I mean, why are you here?"
Levi poked his head inside and said, "I came here specially to visit you, but if you are busy, I can come back in the afternoon or tomorrow."
Jeff, "Oh, no, it's okay, I can do it now, what can I do for you? Sorry, please come in, it's obviously not a good way to entertain guests to let them stand at the door."
Incoherently, Jeff made way and welcomed Levi into his home.
As soon as he came in, Levi saw Jenna coming out of the kitchen.
Levi felt sad. It wasn't because Jenna was sloppy and messy. On the contrary, Jenna had returned to her usual neat and elegant self. Her hair was meticulously tied up, and she even put on some makeup. Everything was the same as usual.
It can be seen that Jenna is doing her best to keep her life as it is -
It was as if Anne had never left.
Not to mention the Galas, even Levi doesn't have any sense of reality now, Anne is no longer here.
Subconsciously, Levi looked up to the second floor along the stairs in front of the door. He waited for a moment, but there was no movement. Levi could only look away embarrassedly.
"Hey, Jenna, sorry to disrupt your plans so early in the morning." Levi greeted with a smile.
Jenna waved her hands, "No, we won't. We're getting ready for breakfast. Do you want to join us?"
Li Wei, "Although I really want to, I had already eaten breakfast before coming here, and I need to go to the team soon. If I don't want to vomit during training, I'd better control myself."
A little joke made the atmosphere a little more relaxed.
But soon, it was quiet again, and there was a terrible void.
Jeff quickly invited Levi to go to the restaurant where it was convenient to sit.
At a glance, Levi saw three sets of tableware neatly placed on the dining table.
The Galas got busy, boiling water and looking for tea leaves. Even though Levi repeatedly said it was not necessary, they still insisted on working.
After some trouble, a cup of green tea made from a Lipton tea bag was placed in front of Levi. Levi was a little amused, but he did not refuse the good intention.
Jeff sat down opposite Levi, but Jenna stood by the sink, and then they fell into an awkward silence again. Even Levi could notice the tormenting silence.
Everything is just as Anne said.
Therefore, Anne knew her parents and accurately predicted the future.
Levi tasted a hint of bitterness on the tip of his tongue, but he still smiled, "Jenna, please sit down. You really don't have to stand all the time."
Jenna refused at first, but seeing that Levi insisted, she finally sat down.
Levi was thinking and considering how to open the topic.
This is a bit difficult.
After taking a deep breath, Levi got straight to the point, "Jeff, Jenna, this Sunday, we will face the New England Patriots at Arrowhead Stadium. I hope you can come and watch the game."
The Galas were stunned. They had not anticipated Levi's intention at all. They exchanged glances, but neither of them had any clue.
Jenna looked at Levi, "Thank you, I really appreciate the invitation, but..."
Before she could finish her words, Jenna could see Levi giving a bitter smile.
Although Jenna was a little confused, she continued without pausing, "We can't accept this. To be honest, my husband and I don't understand football at all. We are just joining in the fun. I don't even know the rules of football now, and I don't understand the point of a group of people bumping into each other on the field."
"I'm sorry, nothing personal. I feel the same way about all sports. I don't see the point. So, let's not waste this opportunity and give it to the fans who love rugby."
"Karen, Karen and Felix will love this."
Levi waited quietly for Jenna to finish, then looked at Jeff again, who nodded in affirmation, causing Levi to let out a sigh of relief.
"Sure enough, Anne is right."
