Chapter 49: Ravenclaw's Setting

I've read a lot of feedback on my Ravenclaw settings in the past few days, and after thinking about it, I think I did get the order wrong.

Ravenclaw is wise enough. I originally wanted to use Helena's recollection to illustrate the greatest essence of Ravenclaw - tolerance.

It is tolerance that is born from wisdom, because wisdom sees enough and far enough, so it is inclusive - not the united and kind-hearted tolerance of Hufflepuff, but tolerance of different opinions and different developments.

Hence the Sorting Hat's saying that all intelligent people can find like-minded people in Ravenclaw.

This is a more antagonistic group than Hufflepuff, and differences gradually arise until they go their separate ways. But everyone is using their own wisdom to find their own way. Because of tolerance, Ravenclaw can tolerate those with different paths, and because of wisdom, those with different paths will never be easily persuaded.

When I finished the previous extra, I was thinking about Luna, and then I realized that there should be bad guys in Ravenclaw - because Ravenclaw has to accommodate a bunch of wizards with more ideas, it should not be a harmonious place, it should be a state of a hundred schools of thought similar to the Spring and Autumn Period.

It should have a massive number of groups like those in the Spring and Autumn Period, with both good and bad people, fighting for what they pursue and sending those who are not in harmony with them to Azkaban.

And it is for this purpose that Ravenclaw House allows those who have aspirations to compete and communicate with each other so that their wisdom can produce more dazzling knowledge.

Therefore, it must have fame-seekers like Lockhart and authoritarians like Rita, because they are indeed using their wisdom to pursue what they think is important - just like the views produced in the Spring and Autumn Period are not all the essence.

Therefore, it was inevitable that some Ravenclaws thought they were wrong and that they should go to Azkaban - wasn't that what Ravenclaws were supposed to do?

Because of tolerance, Ravenclaw has Lockhart and Rita, but also has Millicent Barnold (the Minister of Magic who persisted in fighting Voldemort until victory). Would all Ravenclaws be proud of Rita or Lockhart? How is it possible? Therefore, Ravenclaw's tolerance can allow those who have obviously different actions and opinions to come in, but there will definitely be a large number of excluders inside.

This tolerance can even allow them to unite when they collectively reject something - such as the choice of champions in the Goblet of Fire, but this does not affect their desire to send the other party to Azkaban afterwards.

Professor Flitwick, the dean, undoubtedly meets the requirement of inclusiveness - of course, this may also be because there is too little description in the original book.

It was with this ultimate concept of inclusiveness that I started to describe the various oddballs in Ravenclaw—but it seems like I’ve gone too far, and it even needs a special explanation, because I couldn’t write the concept out at the beginning.

But I think that Ravenclaw should be like this, pursuing wisdom and knowledge, daring to strike hard at fellow students, and daring to attack normally at fellow students - I love my teacher, but I love the truth more.

Pursuing achievement? Good grades? Unity and harmony? That's nice, but so petty... Ravenclaw is partly that, but it can't be just that.

Dare to explore the future of the wizarding world, consider the future of wizards, seek rationality in all kinds of chaos, dare to say no, and dare to use all means to prove your firm beliefs and goals - including but not limited to sending other students including Ravenclaw to Azkaban.

Well, Ravenclaw is like that.
