The Ming Dynasty did not revolutionize

Chapter 26 Three Cooperation Plans

Chapter 26 Three Cooperation Plans
After the visit to Zhu Jianxuan's laboratory, the emperor took Zhu Jianxuan, Adams and others back to Wuying Hall to continue discussing political issues.

The Emperor of the Ming Dynasty sat behind the imperial desk. A specially made armchair was placed on the side below the desk for the short-statured Zhu Jianxuan to sit on.

Adams also got a simple round stool so that he could sit opposite Zhu Jianxuan and talk.

The emperor asked Zhu Jianxuan to talk about his views on cooperation first.

Zhu Jianxuan also spoke frankly:

“I think that our support and cooperation with America can be carried out in a commercial manner.

"We have worked out a bottom-line cooperation plan, a top-level cooperation plan, and a compromise plan between the two.

"We, the Ming Dynasty, will provide support to the extent that America can offer us conditions."

The Emperor of the Ming Dynasty put on a cold face and automatically entered the role of a serious, harsh, fierce and intimidating person.

After Adams visited Zhu Jianxuan's laboratory and had in-depth communication with him, he was convinced that His Royal Highness the Prince was a true genius inventor.

The two parties have also established a verbal agreement that Adams will become Zhu Jianxuan's patent application agent in North America.

Adams had a very good first impression of his client Zhu Jianxuan.

Now I feel a little relieved.

You get what you pay for; this is the favorite way of trading for businessmen.

Instead of rudely giving a very arrogant condition and then going to war if the other party does not accept it.

Adams felt that His Royal Highness the Prince was much easier to talk to than the Emperor.

The key is to think and do things more like a businessman, so that you should have more common language with yourself and your companions.

In Adams's heart, he was already able to accept a prince like Zhu Jianxuan as his king.

So Adams nodded very politely and enthusiastically:
“Thank you for your tolerance, Your Highness. Your suggestion is very good and we fully agree with this way of cooperation.

"I will take careful note of any detailed requests your highness has and try my best to convince the representatives of each colony."

Zhu Jianxuan recalled the map of the United States in his mind:

“My father has already proposed the upper limit plan.

“After you demonstrated your determination and strength, Ming Dynasty began to provide you with full support.

“After the war, half of the land was placed under the direct jurisdiction of the king, and half of the land subsequently developed was also placed under the direct jurisdiction of the king.

“I just mentioned which lands I specifically wanted.

“I want Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, which are now.

“The subsequent Great Lakes to the land between the Ohio and Mississippi rivers.”

Adams' expression suddenly became serious:
"This... should be difficult, but I will write it down. Your Highness, please continue to talk about your bottom line plan."

What Zhu Jianxuan wants most is a bottom-line solution.

Zhu Jianxuan did not want the Ming Dynasty to intervene too deeply in the American War of Independence.

It would be best to declare war on Britain symbolically when the situation has been decided, and then sign the treaty directly.

Because Ming's own condition was not good, and crossing the ocean to fight in North America was too inefficient and completely unnecessary.

So Zhu Jianxuan sorted out the language a little more carefully:

"As for the bottom line plan, I have a preliminary suggestion here, please refer to it, Father and Mr. Adams.

“After America, alone or with the assistance of other nations, had achieved a decisive victory in the war against Britain.

"The Ming court officially recognized America's status as an independent nation and opened up direct free trade licenses with the United States.

“Joining an anti-British alliance that includes the United States, formally declares war on Britain and imposes a trade embargo on Britain.

“After the victory of the war, the thirteen North American states united to establish a constitutional monarchy in the United States.

"I will be the King of America and will make New York's Long Island my private territory, where I will build my palace." The King will, as the representative of all the citizens and the government, grant titles to meritorious civil and military officials and civilians.

"The king was given full civil power to purchase and develop American land and minerals, open factories and businesses, and engage in any industry.

“The king can recruit immigrants on his own, open up land that does not belong to the original colonies, and obtain ownership and jurisdiction over the corresponding lands.

“In addition, other administrative affairs in the United States are handled by the prime minister and governors elected by the American people.

"Legal matters are dealt with by the courts and parliaments of the kingdom and the states, and the king undertakes not to interfere directly."

Zhu Jianxuan was rather vague about his real purpose, but Adams was still able to sense it very keenly.

This means giving Zhu Jianxuan unlimited investment and business scope, while at the same time completely opening up immigration restrictions on the Ming Dynasty.

The requirements of the former are not high, they just want more freedom than ordinary citizens, but the latter is a bit sensitive.

After a brief analysis, Adams said:
"Your Highness's other requests should be fine. Only the method of recruiting immigrants for development should be limited, such as the scope and number of people."

Before Zhu Jianxuan could respond, the emperor spoke up:

"If you don't accept this condition, then there is no need for the Ming Dynasty to cooperate with you. We can go to the British."

Using immigrants to seize the United States is the core goal that Zhu Jianxuan and his son have set.

If this demand cannot be met, then the Ming Dynasty will really not cooperate with these American rebels.

Even if they don't really ask the British to take over, they will at most just watch the entire war from the sidelines and will not stop normal trade with the British.

Adams was frightened by the emperor, but he didn't dare to express any opinion in the end:
"I've made note of that... Then, since this is the bottom line, what is your compromise plan?"

Zhu Jianxuan was not very interested in the compromise plan, and basically modified it according to the bottom line plan:

"You must achieve phased results and at least win a battle involving 10,000 people.

“Then Ming will declare war on Britain and impose an armed embargo.

“After the war is won, I, as king, will gain powers similar to those of the King of England.

“We can have a constitution that regulates the king’s powers.

“Upon this foundation I should receive New York and New Jersey as direct dominions of the King.

"The ownership of the original developed land in the two places still belongs to the original owners, but the jurisdiction will belong to the king in the future.

“The original major leaders of the two places, as well as those who have enough land or influence, will first be granted the title of nobles of the kingdom.

"After the war, the land that the king subsequently invested in and recruited immigrants to develop was also included in the king's direct jurisdiction."

Adams carefully wrote down these requests in his notebook.

I took another look at it overall, analyzed it in my mind, and finally tried to lower the price:
“The bottom line plan proposed by Your Highness has a probability of being accepted by the people of the Thirteen States of more than 60%.

"If we can use the conditions of a compromise plan, that is, we achieve a phased victory as the node for Ming Dynasty to join the war, in exchange for the relevant requirements of your bottom line plan, as long as Changdao is the king's territory and the king does not interfere in the jurisdiction of other areas.

“Then my chances of convincing the representatives from the thirteen states will be more than 80%.

“Due to the long distance between North America and Ming Dynasty, the travel time is measured in years.

"So no matter what, Ming Dynasty can start preparing for war now, so that it won't be too late."

After hearing this, Zhu Jianxuan said nothing and looked directly up at his father the emperor.

The Ming Emperor responded with a straight face:

"I have told you before that the Ming Dynasty has begun preparations for war and is recruiting an additional 50,000 regular troops and 300,000 armed immigrants.

"They were intended to be used to develop my son's fiefdom from the beginning. As for who to fight against, it's up to you to choose."

Adams felt a chill on his neck when he heard this threat, and he stopped bargaining:
"I understand. I will send the news back to North America as soon as possible so that the representatives of the thirteen states can make the final decision together."
