Chapter 412 Preparations for the Aftermath
Chapter 412 Preparations for the Aftermath
……
a few days later.
An Imperial ship arrived in the Caliban system, and the important figures on board, accompanied by some Sol System Auxiliary Force soldiers, came to the surface of Caliban and met under the Oath Falls.
Qin Xia and Luther stood at the front of the welcoming team composed of people representing Caliban and former imperial personnel. They both looked at the auxiliary troops at the same time.
The Solar System Auxiliary Army, wearing power armor customized for mortals.
The legions composed of these people can still fight against the Space Marine Legions when they collide. The people who can be protected by these people must be from the Imperial Parliament and hold a high position, or the master they are loyal to must hold a high position.
A man surrounded by the Solar System Mortal Auxiliary Army soldiers walked towards Qin Xia and Luther.
The man came up to the two men and performed the Sky Eagle Salute with them.
Qin Xia stood with his hands behind his back and looked at the man.
Luther performed the Sky Eagle Salute and extended his hand enthusiastically, but the man just glanced at his hand, then looked at Qin Xia and nodded.
The man turned around and looked at the former Caliban Empire bureaucrats: "Ladies and gentlemen. Most of the functions of the Imperial War Council have been replaced by the Parliament. From today on, you will be relieved of all your previous duties. Then, follow me back to Terra to report on your work and go through the procedures to transfer your files to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Imperial Parliament."
After saying this, after the imperial bureaucrats performed the Sky Eagle Salute, the man walked up to Qin Xia and glanced at the entourage behind him with a smile.
Luther saw that among the entourage there were some old people, some middle-aged people, and some young people who lowered their heads and remained silent.
But most of them are young.
"When the conflict was just over, your people asked me to help you select a few bureaucrats," the man said. "I didn't know who would be suitable, so I brought all kinds of people."
Qin Xia nodded and smiled to thank him, then pulled Luther and walked in front of the entourage.
The entourage lined up in a row under the command of the Sun Auxiliary Army officer. These people had obviously been trained and arranged themselves in order of height, weight and appearance very easily.
Luther felt like he was selecting the Imperials who would govern Caliban in the future like selecting commodities.
"I thank you for my father."
"During the conflict, you sent people to do something that allowed my father to escape from the dying committee."
While Luther was selecting people like selecting goods, the man who brought these "goods" over was talking to Qin Xia in a low voice.
He heard it and thought this might be what is called an exchange of interests.
Perhaps the members of the Imperial Parliament appear unhappy about Astartes joining the Parliament, but in fact, from the perspective of personal interests, they may all want to talk to someone who represents the interests of Astartes.
After all, the Space Marine Legions represent the Empire's military might during the Great Crusade.
"Your father just made a wise choice. When you go back, thank him for me and thank him for making a wise choice." Qin Xia said in a low voice.
"Yes." The man nodded, then frowned, "How is your relationship with Ultramar? My father wants to use something to get his brother who is still on the committee out..."
Qin Xia looked down at the man, stretched out his hand and gently pushed him away: "We will talk in detail later, now I have something else to deal with."
Luther stood in front of a boy, looking at the boy's extremely sad eyes and felt puzzled.
"Twelve years old, boy, I forgot his name." The man walked over to Luther and introduced the boy, like introducing a product. "He is cowardly and always misses home. He was often beaten for crying quietly in the middle of the night. His father is a statistician in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and so is his mother."
"So he is a noble?" Luther turned and asked.
"Hmm..." The man stroked his hair nonchalantly. "There are more nobles on Terra than trees on your Caliban. It doesn't matter whether he is a noble or not. It's just that his parents were honored by the Emperor earlier than people in other areas of Terra."
"That's him." Luther nodded.
The man turned to look at his followers.
A soldier came forward with a letter of appointment and a box of ink, and roughly grabbed the boy's fingers, pressing them first into the ink and then onto the letter of appointment.
"In the name of the Emperor, from now on you are the governor of Caliban. The Emperor has given you the real power to rule here... blah blah... anyway, that's it." said the man.
The boy took the commission handed to him by the soldier.
He didn't know what rights this letter of commission gave him. The double-headed eagle logo on it was the only thing he could understand. But even so, he knew that this letter of commission meant that he would never be able to return to Terra and his parents.
"Now, get out of my team and don't waste my time," said the man.
The boy stood next to Luther like a puppet.
The Solar Auxiliary Army soldiers and other accompanying personnel all turned and left.
The man from the Imperial Parliament and Qin Xia walked to a less crowded place, and it was unknown what they were going to talk about.
Luther looked at the boy, gently pulled him in front of him, smoothed his messy hair, and asked softly, "What's your name, little tough guy."
"Owen," the boy answered, "will I serve you in the future, sir? When they took me away, they said they would send me to be a servant to a great man..."
Luther didn't know how to answer for a moment.
The servants of the nobles were often not chosen from the lowest class of the poor, but were children without inheritance rights, or hostages sent by some minor nobles.
After a few seconds of silence, Luther spoke: "No, you are not my servant, you are a human being, a person here."
"Then will I...will I never be able to return to Terra?" the boy asked with tears in his eyes. Luther sighed and shook his head: "Yes, you can't go back, but you will grow up here, and one day your parents' figures will become blurred in your memory, and then you will only remember your only identity, which is..."
Luther suddenly took out a model of a Caliban Knight, handed it to the boy and shook the model: "Caliban."
The boy forced a smile and took the knight model.
……
night.
Inside the castle, Qin Xia and Luther walked side by side on the road leading to the dungeon.
"Why did you choose a child during the day?" Qin Xia asked.
"Whether it's a coward or an elite, I don't think it's appropriate." Luther said, "But no matter what kind of personality this child has, he is the most suitable, because he is like a blank sheet of paper now. He can be trained from scratch and eventually he can become a Caliban."
"He can become a Caliban. Hmm." Qin Xia murmured, "Good choice."
The two entered the dungeon together.
In a cell in the dungeon lay a man.
The man lost an arm, and it was Kavak.
After the incident in the Senate Hall, the people Luther sent to clean up the place found Kavak and Dur, two people with very different looks. One was in a cell and the other was being treated by a Space Marine pharmacist in his own mansion.
"Do you have anything to say in your defense?" Luther stopped and went straight to the point.
"I don't believe in evil gods. It's always been the governor who has driven me to do this and that, and then I try to sabotage him," Kavak said. "In the name of the governor, I suggested that the priests hold a meeting, and then I found a random reason for them, such as sacrifice."
Kavak's psychological quality and willpower are incredibly strong. When he saw Luther, he opened his mouth to argue.
"I had someone provide me with the information that allowed you to carry out your previous actions at the Void Knights Hall."
"I may have preached some things, and I may have participated in ceremonies, but I have never done anything that was unworthy of the Emperor and the Imperial Truth."
When Kavak wanted to continue speaking, Luther raised his hand to interrupt.
Kavak quieted down.
Luther asked: "What supports you to do this?"
"Imperial truth," Kavak said. "It's the same for me and a few others. Did you see the list I leaked to you earlier when I pushed the priest? Are the people on it still alive? They are all like me. It would be too unfair if they were killed by you in the end."
Qin Xia stepped forward and touched Kavak's bald head. After sensing it, he said, "You are a talented person. There are very few people with a will as strong as yours."
Kavak smiled.
But this smile looks particularly sinister and cunning.
"It's just that you look so bad." Qin Xia said again.
The smile on Kavak's face disappeared.
"Rest here for a few days. We will decide your fate in the end." Qin Xia glanced at Kavak's broken arm.
When the spiritual energy attached to Kavak's broken arm, flesh and blood began to grow again and eventually condensed into an arm.
Kavak saluted respectfully.
Qin Xia and Luther walked out of the cell.
"The Chaos Corruption on Caliban will not disappear just because of the failure of the Imperial personnel." Qin Xia said as he walked, "I think you should set up an organization on Caliban that specializes in dealing with Chaos Corruption and recruit people with strong willpower. The one named Kavak might be able to be used."
Luther thought so too.
"I plan to go to the northern wilderness in a couple of days." Qin Xia said, "Do you have any suggestions?"
"My advice is don't go." Luther said seriously, "The Northern Wasteland itself is a forbidden area. There are too many ghosts there. Legend has it that the Dark Watcher's lair is in that wasteland... No matter how dangerous it is, it is not a problem for you, but that place is very weird."
"I have to go too, Weird." Qin Xia said, "Don't worry, I will never forget how beautiful Caliban is, and I will never forget that Caliban is a world of death."
Luther had no problem hearing his home world referred to as the Death World.
Caliban is beautiful, but it is indeed a world of death. Behemoths and chaos corrosion can only be said to be one of the various survival crises.
In Qin Xia's memory, there is a very famous death world called Catachan.
If Ryan hadn't cleared out the behemoths on Caliban, I'm afraid humans' impression of Catachan would be "Caliban's Extreme Star Field Division."
"Is there anything I can help you with?" Luther asked.
"I can't think of anything I might need." Qin Xia thought for a moment before answering, "Guide? Guard? I don't think anyone can get into that place except me."
"That's true." Luther was speechless.
