Chapter 583: Mortal vs. Superman

Chapter 583: Mortal vs. Superman

……

Preparations for the Battle of Sosa.

As the fleet was about to arrive at Sotha, Eidolon gave orders from the heavy cruiser gifted to him by the 11th Primarch.

The commanders of the Emperor's sons serving Eidolon gathered around the star map projection device.

The other Space Marine commanders, wearing armor from different legions, stood in the corners of the command deck like mortals.

Among them are the Night Lords, the Salamanders, and even the Blood Angels.

They were created by No. 11, and after waking up in the amniotic fluid chamber, they were implanted with a special control device to ensure that these puppets absolutely obey the orders of their new masters.

Eidolon glanced at these puppets and saw that there was a spider-like creature lying behind their heads. The limbs of this strange arthropod creature penetrated deep into the brain nerves through the skin.

At this moment, Eidolon suddenly recalled a question Fabius Bile had asked him before: "Tell me, when you command them, are you commanding these warriors who were created with the gene seeds of different legions, or are you commanding the bugs lying on their heads?"

And Eidolon's response was: "I don't care, as long as these cannon fodder can be useful."

On the star map, the strategic plan formulated by Eidolon is presented.

The most important point of the battle, Sousa, is marked out.

The forces responsible for the attack on Sotha were also marked out - 50,000 Emperor's Children, 20,000 Night Lords, and 20,000 Salamanders.

In order to focus on attacking Sosa and destroying the Lighthouse of Pharos, Eidolon also selected some strategically valuable worlds or fleets as secondary attack targets.

The troops responsible for attacking those secondary targets were also marked out - more than 10,000 Blood Angels and more than 10,000 Salamanders.

Their mission was not to engage in a head-on landing battle, but to contain and delay the Ultramar defense forces and fleets to prevent fleets or auxiliary forces from coming to disrupt the situation when Eidolon was focusing on attacking Sosa.

Ninety-nine percent of all the troops participating in this battle, whether attacking Sosa or other secondary targets, are warriors created by No. 11 Biotechnology.

A mortal was captured, put into an amniotic fluid chamber, implanted with gene seeds, and forcibly instilled with combat skills.

The World Eaters think tank troops have biochemical psychic spells that can allow mortals to complete 100% enhanced transformation. The 11th Legion also has similar means, but it is not achieved through psychic power, but through more advanced biotechnology.

Even though Eleven himself admitted that this was not equivalent to unlimited production of Space Marines, Eidolon felt that when ninety-nine percent of the Emperor's Children died in the Battle of Chemos, he now had nearly forty thousand of them under his command, which was not much different from unlimited production of Space Marines.

"After the fleet arrives in Sosa, my ship will stay in the star system to fight, and the other warships will carry you away."

"To contain and delay the Ultramar fleet, and ensure that no disruptors will join the battle here in Sosa in the short term."

Eidolon paced the command deck, his voice echoing in the empty space.

After he, the commander appointed by No. 11, gave the order, no Space Marine stood at attention or saluted in response, only silence.

This was not a disrespect for authority, but rather that the 11th had given these Space Marines, who were shaped using different gene seeds, some factory settings to make them closer in some aspects to the 11th Legion, the most efficient of all legions.

"I'm done. Go away," Eidolon said.

Everyone turned around and lined up to leave, without saying a word from beginning to end.

The fleet sailed to the target point.

A fleet consisting of hundreds of warships lent to Eidolon by the 11th Legion jumped out of the warp and arrived at the galaxy where Sosa was located.

Most of the warships immediately prepared for the next warp voyage, while the fleet flagship, the heavy cruiser carrying Eidolon, approached Sosa.

The orbital bombardment phase begins.

What landed on the planet's surface was not a conventional ship-borne weapon, but an extinction weapon called a virus bomb.

During the Great Crusade, virus bombs were often used to destroy planets that were worth colonizing but where the local aliens were too powerful.

……

Sosa.

Pharos Mountain.

Several void shields cover the mountain where the lighthouse is located. Under the control of technical personnel, each void shield is only responsible for defending one fan-shaped direction. In this case, the effectiveness of the void shield can reach its extreme.

Early in the preparations for the Battle of Sotha, Dantioch ordered the construction of a larger fortress based on the one built by the Ultramarines.

The command center of the defending forces was set up inside the fortress.

This was not Dantioch's suggestion, but Crest's wish. She habitually adopted some military strategies during the Devourer Rebellion: the most notable and important people must be at the forefront to boost morale and military spirit.

Now the top leaders of the defense forces gathered in the command center at the center of the fortress, observing everything that happened on Sousa in a space of thousands of square meters.

"They've started orbital bombardment." Dantioch observed the sky through a telescope.

Several spots of light appeared below the blurred battleship outline.

Dantioch put down the telescope and looked at Avida: "Just as you predicted." Avida stood with Erebus in silence.

Until now, the preparation stage of the Sosa Battle has ended and has officially entered the confrontation stage.

The light spots fell from the sky, but the noise they caused was not as huge as the earth turning upside down.

That's a virus bomb.

When this destructive weapon was dropped on Sosa, farmlands with large amounts of unharvested crops, vast tracts of virgin forest, even the highly nutritious black soil, and even houses on the planet...all began to rot.

All organic things are turned into rancid mud by the virus.

"This is the virus bomb," Dantioch said to Crest. "From now on, no one can be allowed to leave the dungeon or the fortress, because the virus will decompose all organic matter. Even our Space Marines' armor and not-so-good filtering devices can't stop the virus."

"Yeah." Crest responded lightly, not seeming surprised at all.

First, she had fought in the Great Crusade with the World Eaters and knew what virus bombs were, even though the 12th Legion did not use them.

Second, although only the Nuceria regular army and the Ultramar auxiliary army were deployed to Sotha, Angron had made all necessary preparations for this war. Everything used in the construction of the fortress could withstand the most brutal invasion, and the virus could not penetrate the filtering devices of the fortress or the dungeon.

It is better to be prepared than to be caught unprepared. This is why Crest is indifferent at this moment.

"Wait, there's another big fire," Dantioch said again.

The organic matter in Sousa produces combustible gases during the decomposition process. The entire Sousa is now like a powder keg. Just a little spark can burn the whole world.

The enemy ships outside Sosa fired incendiary torpedoes at the surface.

The torpedo entered the atmosphere and detonated.

The fire ignited the entire planet.

At this time, in the eyes of those who were in Sousa and observing the surface conditions, it was as if a fire storm suddenly appeared in the sky, and this fire storm became larger and larger until it finally covered the entire surface of Sousa.

At the Pharos Mountain Fortress, since everyone was inside the sturdy fortress and the materials used to build the fortress were the same materials used in the ancient facilities of Nu Saturn, which could ensure a constant temperature, no one inside felt any suffering.

The underground city was built deep underground, so of course it was not affected by the fire.

However, the visual impact caused by the virus bomb and the fire sweeping across Sosa was too horrifying.

The Nuceria soldiers would not find this scene scary, they would only think it was a very grand scene.

The Ultramar Auxiliary Soldiers would not be frightened by this scene because they were not from Sosa.

The Ultramarines originally stationed in Sosa had deep feelings for Sosa, but they were sent by Guilliman to rescue Horus and were not in Sosa at all.

Only the Sosa people felt not only shock, but also fear and despair after seeing this scene.

Seeing their once beautiful and peaceful homeland transformed into a living hell with flames everywhere overnight, it is hard for people not to collapse as their wish of "after the war we can return to the ground and farm" has completely become an empty hope of a generation.

"A mass suicide occurred in Underground City No. 2."

An officer walked toward Kleist and reported in a low voice.

"People on the streets saw what was happening on the surface and started going crazy and committing suicide."

No matter how softly he spoke, Dantioch could still hear him.

"You let the Sosans see all this?!" Dantioch walked up to Crest in the blink of an eye, his eyes flickering between the mortal officer and Crest, his eyes wide open, "I thought you could at least control public opinion and information without me reminding you!"

"I did it on purpose." Crest motioned the officer to go back and continue monitoring the situation in the dungeon, then replied softly, "I ordered the Sosa people to gather in the dungeon square, or watch this scene at home. I wanted them to see their homeland turned into a world of death by the invaders."

"I can think of anything you think of."

Kleist continued.

"The security omnics will maintain order and ensure that the Sosans don't go crazy and destroy the dungeon. Not to mention that they don't have the courage to do so."

"You said that this war between mortals and superhumans might end in nine out of ten deaths."

"I have to make sure the Sosans can stand up when all of us Nuceria and Ultramar auxiliaries are dead, even if it's just to throw charcoal at the invaders."

Hearing this, Dantioch stopped talking, thinking that Crest's strategy might be effective.

In previous wars, the primary role of mortals was not to assist the Space Marines in doing anything, but to not hold them back.

But now they had to deal with the Space Marines on their own.

"I support her." Avida stood on the left side of Crest. "It just so happens that I can use these feelings of despair to perform a ritual. I can kill two birds with one stone."

"Scum." Erebus sat in the corner, his tone grim, "I hope you can still show this attitude when the Lord of the White Knights comes here to support us, so that he can see what you say and do with the body of your best friend."

“Ha.” Avida smiled calmly, “He is on his way to Horus. How can he have time to come to us? When our battle ends and the World Eaters or Ultramarines reinforcements arrive, he may not even look here.”
