Chapter 463 The Battle of the Long Night
Chapter 463 The Battle of the Long Night (Part 7)
With bloodshot eyes and a pale dragon body, Brynden pierced the night sky. He felt waves of unbearable chill emanating from his body. The power he inherited came from the Old Gods, whose Old Gods originated from the Song of the Earth and Rivers of the previous era and the Song of Ice brewing in the North in this era.
With the arrival of the Long Night, the legacy of the Old Gods is eroded by the Song of Ice even faster. Unlike Hoffa, Brynden, although also possessing the bloodline of the Dragon King, is primarily of the Green Prophet lineage, so he is more severely affected after the arrival of the Long Night.
Let's treat this battle as our last.
Below on the battlefield, the White Walkers raised their ice-crystal longswords, attempting to awaken more fallen corpses. Human heavy cavalry tore through the White Walker lines, even reaching their core spellcasters, while the dragons gradually broke through the White Walker lords' blockade.
To be honest, the Varese and Targaryens should be most grateful to Azor and Ahai, who ended the last Long Night. Those heroes defeated the White Walkers and sealed the Heart of Winter with the "Lightbringers," each representing the power of the Song of Fire, and also killed most of the old ice dragons. This meant that the ice dragons the White Walkers summoned to reawaken, though numerous, were not as powerful as they could be in terms of size, combat experience, and breath strength. On the other hand, the dragon riders, Vormisor, Silverwing, and Dreamfire, though old, were still formidable. Silverwing was agile, Dreamfire was volatile, and Vormisor was powerful. Although the Targaryens were weak, the Varese were still alive. The old dragon riders, even if they hadn't fought many dragonfights, were still experienced and prevented the White Walkers from taking advantage of their numerical advantage in ice dragons. Instead, the largest ice dragons, the ones that could have posed a threat to the old dragons, were killed at the very beginning.
Ironically, some of them were even severely injured by mortals and ultimately died fighting dragons. This is the main reason why the White Walkers are now unable to inflict significant damage on dragons. With experienced dragon knights, the magic that can kill dragons, which can only be used by Night Knights and ice mage lords, is not very effective.
The White Walkers finally felt a sense of unease.
Brinden, expressionless, reached out and ripped out his perfectly intact eye, then threw it away forcefully.
"Blood eyes, dragon flames!"
Like a sacrifice, the crimson dragon flames devoured the Blood Raven's still-intact eyeballs.
Something seemed to emanate from the dragonfire. Brynden sensed it, gritted his teeth, and unsheathed the Dark Sisters, severing his own left arm with a single strike.
Damn.
Feeling his body weakened, Brinden threw the severed arm into the dragon flames without hesitation. Strangely, the wound seemed to be frozen, with no blood splattering out. Instead, it seemed to be sealed inside the severed arm.
The invisible magic spread like ripples, and the wights that had just risen suddenly froze, the ghostly blue flames in their eyes flickering violently, and then—extinguished, as if the magic of the White Walkers had been forcibly interrupted.
The corpses fell again, this time not as a true slumber, but as a sacrifice initiated by Brynden using the blood of the King and the Green Prophet to snatch life from the White Walkers' ice magic. Brynden alone was naturally insufficient, but with the aid of dragonfire, the spell became incredibly effective. Furthermore, the White Walker lords were mostly manipulating ice dragons to hold off the dragon riders, thus suppressing the White Walkers' group magic.
“Your toys,” Brinden said in a low, somewhat nervous voice, stroking his empty eyes. “They’re mine now.”
Blood Eyes let out a hoarse dragon roar, its wings snapping shut as it swooped down like an arrow. The pale dragon's blood-red eyes instantly locked onto its target: several Ice Summoners struggling to seize control of the magic. The Others sensed danger almost immediately, but the last thing they saw as they looked up was the black dragon's gaping maw and the dark red flames churning within.
After the flames subsided, only a pool of boiling, eerie blue liquid remained on the snow. Bloodeye climbed into the sky, but was still impaled on its scales by ice spears summoned by several White Walkers. The pale dragon howled in agony, sensing that Brynden was maintaining the magic that restricted the resurrection of the dead, a magic that consumed Brynden's flesh and blood.
Brynden was prepared to sacrifice himself if he could no longer maintain his magic.
Suddenly, Sarafasus flew in from the side of the sky, its azure flames obscuring the Blood Eyes' form and incinerating the ice spears that had taken flight. It roared as it passed through the sky like a blue lightning bolt.
Daenerys Varese tied her silver hair back, and Sarah Faith's shimmering sapphire scales still sparkled in the dim light. This magnificent dragon was not naturally suited for head-on charges, but in terms of mobility and agility, perhaps only Greyshade and Bloodeye could rival it among the dragons in existence.
“Turn around, my dear.” She patted the dragon’s neck lightly, her eyes flashing with fervor and cunning.
Zarafasser instantly flipped to the side, a breath of ice dragon grazing his wing membranes. Daenerys looked back; the young ice dragon was indeed hot on his heels. The three ice mages maintaining the dragon's flight lowered their heads, allowing the Night Knights to hurl ice spears capable of piercing dragon scales, but Zarafasser deftly dodged them. Daenerys deliberately slowed down, turning back to the Night Knight with a mocking gesture, as if in defiance.
The Night Knight couldn't understand it.
But it doesn't matter, since they only have one mission: to kill those dragon knights. So the young ice dragon suddenly accelerated, and the three ice mages cast spells with all their might. Even the ice on their bodies was slowly melting, which was a sign that the ice mages were sacrificing themselves.
“Closer.” She counted her heartbeats until she caught a glimpse of Vormisor’s massive bronze figure out of the corner of her eye. The old dragon opened its jaws the instant it saw Sarafasus charging toward it.
"My foolish brother, you are too slow."
Sarafass suddenly ascended vertically, catching the pursuing ice dragon off guard and crashing directly into Igor's dragonfire range. The incandescent flames, like demons, crawled up the ice dragon's body. The young ice dragon was utterly unable to resist the old dragon's dragonfire, which even ice mage lords couldn't withstand. It didn't even have time to utter a mournful cry before vaporizing into mist. The three ice mage lords melted away with the ice dragon almost instantly. Only the Night Knight held on a little longer, but even he didn't last long, vaporizing into icy mist along with the shattering ice shield.
"Beautiful bait. Sis, well done this time." Igor's voice came from below. Vomisol slowly glided across the sky. The old dragon was really too slow. Even Sarafas could overtake the sluggish old dragon with a single acceleration.
Daenerys smiled: "Who's next?"
"Let's see who's unlucky."
"Igor said viciously."
