Chapter 4 Cooling off
As soon as he entered the door, Chen Linfeng first turned on the oscillating fan in the living room, and then turned on the TV.

He was sitting on the sofa, and New Century Skyhawk was being broadcast on TV. In later life, he watched the Japanese version, but now watching the Chinese version, it felt fresh and good.

Now, he enjoys watching not only EVA, but also Ultraman, Little Confused God, Big Head Son and Small Head Dad, and Haier Brothers. No matter whether they are domestic or foreign cartoons, he can enjoy them all.

Perfectly integrates into the current age segment.

Chen's mother came out of the kitchen, saw Chen Linfeng, and slapped him on the head.

"I told you not to eat such cold food all the time, but you just wouldn't listen. This food is not healthy. The TV said it's full of additives. You'll have diarrhea again later."

It was the usual nagging, and Chen Linfeng pretended not to hear it.

"These are the peas I just cooked this afternoon. I'll send them to your Aunt Liu's house after you finish reading them."

Mother Chen took out a large bowl of cooked peas from the kitchen and placed it on the small table in front of the sofa.

Aunt Liu is Zhao Yuming’s mother, and she lives next door to the Chen family.

The place where Chen Linfeng's family lives is a typical old-style workers' alley in the north.

The alley is very long and many families live in it. There is a corner inside, and there are three families coming in, forming a large courtyard with three families living in it.

The Chen family lives in the innermost part, and next to them is the Li family, and the other family is the Zhao family, that is, Zhao Yuming's family.

Zhao Yuming and the two Chen brothers get along well, and the relationship between the two families has become closer.

The Li family has a daughter who has gone to college in another province. The old couple has made some money from their business and are thinking about moving out. They rarely come back to live here recently.

When Chen Xiaohu delivered the peas, the Zhao family was already preparing to set the table for dinner.

Chen Linfeng first secretly waved to Zhao Yuming, then turned to Aunt Liu and said, "Aunt, these are the peas that our family cooked this afternoon. My mother asked me to bring them here."

"Okay, put it here. I brought back some homemade melon bean paste from my hometown a few days ago. You can take some back. It's delicious when fried." Aunt Liu asked as she filled the bowl with melon beans:

"Your dad will be home soon, I think. It's not easy for him, as he has to run around for your brother's social events every day."

"I'll be back soon. I called you a few days ago."

"By the way, is your brother still going out to film this year?"

"I probably won't be filming this year. I'm too old to play a child's role anymore."

Aunt Liu laughed and said, "She's just a kid, how can she be considered old?"

Then he asked, "What about you? Are you going out again this year? I heard that the happy little monk you played was pretty good. It was even shown on TV."

"Happy Little Monk" was broadcast in Lijiaopo and mainland China last year, and even the second season has been broadcast.

It’s just that in this era, local TV stations purchase relatively few TV dramas, and the local TV station in Central Plains Province has not purchased any yet, so friends around here naturally have no chance to see it.

Last year he also won the Best Newcomer Award at the Asian Television Awards, but again, information travels very slowly in this day and age, so this award didn't make any splash at all.

Chen Linfeng thought about it and replied, "I won't go out to act. I'm a kid and I've never learned acting. I just act randomly. It's not good to act too much in this kind of play."

"You know a lot. Now that you've packed it up, take it back."

Aunt Liu sent Chen Linfeng out the door, then turned around and saw her son curled up on the sofa reading a picture book. She became furious.

"It's time to eat. Do I have to call you a few more times? I have to feed you food every day. Look at Xiaofeng, he can go out to film and earn money at such a young age. His grades are so good, and he always gets first place. Look at you."

Zhao Yuming felt very aggrieved. You told me to find a place to stay and call me for dinner later. How angry are you? Chen Linfeng heard the quarrels and scoldings from behind and couldn't help but sigh. How much hatred did the parents nearby bring to him?
After dinner, maybe because it was about to rain, the house was too hot and stuffy, and the electric fan was not effective, so everyone gathered in the yard to cool off.

Several families outside the yard also came to enjoy the cool air, and there were five children alone.

Everyone was bored, so someone suggested telling ghost stories.

Dad Zhao took the lead and told a more traditional ghost story.

A man met a ghost in a graveyard and accidentally brought the ghost home. The evil ghost killed several people in succession. People were very scared and suspected that they had encountered a ghost, but they could not find where the ghost was.

In desperation, he sought help from professional monks and Taoist priests, but all those who came to help died.

The plot in the middle is quite tortuous. Dad Zhao describes the process of catching ghosts vividly. Although it is a bit scary, it is still acceptable.

The children gradually relaxed.

At the end of the story, Dad Zhao turned to the group of children and talked about the person who first encountered the ghost, and how he finally found where the ghost was.

Father Zhao said solemnly, "Do you know where that ghost is?"

The children were listening attentively, and Zhao Yuming even swallowed his saliva.

Zhao's father's expression suddenly became incredulous, and his voice suddenly became louder: "It's right behind you!"

The children were so frightened that Zhao Yuming crawled to the side howling like a ghost.

Outstanding effect.

Chen Linfeng had a helpless look on his face. He had heard this kind of ghost story when he was a child in his previous life. He knew that the effect of the show all depended on the final explosion.

He had expected it and was not afraid at all.

The friends around him came to their senses, felt that they had lost face, and began to criticize Zhao's father verbally.

Father Zhao laughed out loud, feeling that his ghost story-telling skills were still as good as ever. He was just a little puzzled, the second kid from the Chen family was really a tough guy. He didn't show any signs of fear at all.

Several adults with special skills told a ghost story each. Although Chen Linfeng thought they were all clichés, the group of children had never heard of them before and were quite scared.

Seeing that the opportunity was good, Chen Linfeng told the story he had written at school today.

His tone throughout was neither hurried nor slow, highlighting a straightforward narrative, but the people in the story died suddenly because of a lack of attention to some daily trivial matters.

After one or two people died in the beginning, everyone knew the plot.

But even so, the adults listened to Chen Linfeng's slow narration of those inconspicuous causes and the inevitable death, and they felt more and more frightened.

By the end of the story, the children were not deeply touched, but the adults all felt chilled to the bone.

"Your story is so creepy. Where did you hear it?" Chen's mother wanted to pat his head as she usually did, but suddenly she became worried that something might go wrong due to his carelessness, so she abruptly withdrew her hand.

Well, she couldn't recover in two days.

"I thought of it myself. What do you think? This is like the King of Hell sending you to die at three o'clock in the morning. Who dares to keep you alive until five o'clock?" Chen Linfeng thought the story was quite effective and smiled in his heart.

"What kind of devil would dare to do such a thing? God must make him get fired." Aunt Liu also found it creepy. She must teach the children to be careful in the future, as many things in the story are caused by carelessness and wrong habits.

Chen Linfeng didn't know that he had dug a hole for his friends again. When the room was not so stuffy, he happily went back to practice his musical instrument.
