Chapter 95 Gentle Township

Chapter 95 Gentle Township

For three days, Gong Xu was drunk and sober, sober and drunk again, like a lump of mud.

Aside from Yunying taking care of him, any other servants who approached him were scolded and driven away.

That day, Yunying cooked some porridge and pleaded with Gong Xu in a low voice, "Master, please eat some porridge! Otherwise, how can your body take it?"

"Bring me more wine!" Gong Xu pushed her hand away. "Are you going to defy me too?"

“Master, you can’t drink anymore. These days, the old lady has been sending people to ask about you. Although the people who come back try their best to hide it, the old lady can still guess something. She doesn’t say anything, but she keeps telling the servants to take good care of your diet and daily life. You are the most filial son, so don’t make the old lady worry anymore.”

Upon hearing Yunying mention her mother, Gong Xu no longer insisted on having wine, but his expression remained dejected.

"Master, this porridge is just right. Would you like to have a bowl?" Yunying asked gently, as if coaxing a child.

“I really can’t eat,” Gong Xu sighed. “Why did she betray me like this?”

He said this countless times when he was drunk.

“That was her fault, why should you blame yourself, sir?” Yunying had given this reply for who knows how many times.

To be honest, she didn't feel much sympathy for Gong Xu from the bottom of her heart.

Isn't all of this his own fault?
Now he keeps blaming Song for letting him down, but hasn't he also let Wen Mingqian down?
Why doesn't he show any remorse for his heartlessness?
Ultimately, he only cares about himself.

His so-called sincerity towards Song was nothing more than because Song outwardly went along with him in everything and satisfied his desires.

Yunying understood all this, so she didn't treat Gongxu with sincerity.

Because Gong Xu didn't need that; all he wanted was gentleness and obedience, and for people to put him first in everything on the surface.

All I wanted was a place where I could live comfortably with enough to eat and wear, so I naturally put on a good show.

She felt no gratitude towards Gong Xu; their relationship was merely a mutually beneficial arrangement. Instead, she was forever grateful to Wen Mingqian, feeling that without him, she would be living in hell.

"Aunt Yun!" A sweet voice called out from outside, and then a slender figure in red floated in.

Sang Er's beautiful face seemed to glow, illuminating the room.

"It's Sister Sang Er!" Yun Ying greeted her with a smile. "This dress is so beautiful, did Madam give it to you?"

“It was a gift from the old lady,” Sang Er said with a grin. “The old lady said I was frightened, and this is to calm my nerves.”

“You’ve turned misfortune into blessing,” Yunying said with a hint of envy. “Now not only does Madam dote on you, but the old lady does too.”

"How can that compare to how my sister is loved by the master?" Sang Er teased. "If a poor person like me didn't have a master to love her, wouldn't she be even more pitiful?"

"Stop behaving so sweetly towards me. You haven't even greeted the master since you came in. That's really impolite," Yunying reminded Sang Er.

"Yes, yes, I deserve a beating." Sang Er said with a grin, approaching Gong Xu and bowing solemnly, "This servant Sang Er greets Master, please forgive me!"

Gong Xu looked somewhat dazed upon seeing her, and frowned as he asked, "You... weren't you imprisoned?"

“I was originally locked up, but the old lady released me after she found out what happened and even comforted me.” Sang Er’s expression turned sad as she spoke. “It was Concubine Song. She had something on me and threatened me to do things for her. I was at a loss at the time. I didn’t mean to harm you, madam.”

"What did she have on you?" Gong Xu asked her. "My cousin came to the capital looking for me, but she was detained by Consort Song's men. They threatened to sell my cousin to that wretched place if I didn't agree," Sang Er said, wiping away her tears. "She wanted me to put laxatives in the soup, but I dared not. So she compromised and told me that all I had to do was say that Madam had ordered me to do it."

She even said it wouldn't be anything serious, just that the lady would get a scolding. I was so confused at the time that I actually believed her.

"I am truly filled with remorse and utterly sorry, Madam. I had no face to remain in this mansion, but Madam is so kind. She said I was forced into this situation, and besides, the truth has now come to light. She even pleaded with the Old Madam on my behalf, asking me to stay, saying I should serve the Master well in the future to atone for my sins."

Sang Er cried so hard that tears streamed down her face, and Gong Xu couldn't help but soften his heart.

"So, have you managed to rescue your cousin yet?" Gong Xu asked.

“Of course,” Sang Er said. “My cousin was just a little frightened, nothing serious. It’s all thanks to the master and mistress.”

"You know that Madam truly loves you and is genuinely concerned for Master. Where else can you find a girl as beautiful as you?" Yunying smiled and stepped forward to help her up. "Get up quickly! It breaks my heart to see you crying like this."

Sang Er awkwardly got up, but kept stealing glances at Gong Xu. Gong Xu was so captivated by her glances that he no longer blamed her.

He simply said, "You're too young to be a match for that wicked woman. You should learn from this experience and not fall into her trap again."

"This servant is greatly grateful for your guidance, Master," Sang Er said sweetly. "It was Madam who sent me here. Knowing that you haven't had an appetite these days, she specially asked Zhang Ma to prepare some delicious food. Please, Master, please have some, considering Madam's thoughtfulness!"

Gong Xu listened to Sang Er's soft words and couldn't bear it any longer when she mentioned Wen Mingqian.

So he said, "Since the madam sent you, then bring it up!"

"You've come at just the right time," Yunying said happily. "I was just worried about not having any decent food!"

The two beauties accompanied Gong Xu, gentle and attentive yet playful and adorable.

Gong Xu's heart, which had been wounded by Song Shi, slowly began to revive.

"Who's peeking around at the door like that?" Sang Er, with her sharp eyes, spotted someone at the door.

"It's me," Ma Ping'an said with a grin as he walked in, "I'm here to greet you, sir."

"What are you doing lurking around at the door?" Sang Er asked with a smile.

"It's not that we're being sneaky, it's just that we're afraid of disturbing the master," Ma Ping'an explained.

"What is it? Speak." Gong Xu knew he must have come for something.

"Reporting to Master, I was ordered to keep an eye on Concubine Song, but she has been acting like a madwoman these past few days, either cursing or smashing things."

Now she's cursing the master, mistress, and old lady even more. We tried to shut her up, but she's really throwing a tantrum, and she even said..." Ma Ping'an didn't dare to continue.

"Just say what you want to say, there's no need to beat around the bush like this," Gong Xu said, sounding a little impatient.

“She said she’s the apple of the master’s eye, and none of us can touch her,” Ma Ping’an said, glancing furtively at Gong Xu.

Gong Xu's face turned ashen, and his eyes became particularly frightening.
