Chapter 19 Foreign Legion
Chapter 19 Foreign Legion
The French Foreign Legion is a very special force, and its history can be traced back to the 18th century. In order to solve the problems of insufficient troops on the front line and high crime rates in the country, the then French King Louis Philippe recruited a large number of prisoners and foreigners to join this force, and promised to put aside past grudges as long as they were willing to fight for the French army.
Over the past 100 years, this army has grown rapidly, and its composition has become increasingly complex. There are foreigners, political prisoners, and bandits. But the majority of them are always one type of people:
The vast majority of foreign soldiers from French colonies were black. Led by white officers, they formed "black infantry regiments" and launched attacks on the enemy for their "suzerain country."
The cultural level of these soldiers was very low, with a literacy rate of less than 5%. They could not even understand French, and many of them only obeyed their superiors' orders consisting of simple slogans.
It was obvious that the guy in front of him was one of these people, and the people around him simply couldn't communicate with him.
"Who knows him? Is there anyone who can communicate with him?" He Chi asked loudly to those around him.
No one responded. The soldier had no companions here at all.
"Soldier! As your superior, I order you to lay down your weapons! Immediately!" The second lieutenant, the highest-ranking soldier among the wounded, shouted to the black man.
As a result, the lieutenant's words stimulated the giant and directly triggered the opponent's attack.
Perhaps feeling inconvenient, the giant dropped the knife and smashed forward with his fists like a battering ram.
The people in front immediately scattered and dodged, but Christine, who was unable to move, stayed where she was, frightened out of her wits.
At the critical moment, He Chi inserted himself between the two men, raised his arms to protect his upper body, and took the blow.
bump! ! !
The giant's fist hit He Chi's arm hard.
He Chi felt like he was hit by a truck. The overwhelming force almost made his arms numb. He used the inertia of backwards to dissipate some of the force and avoided injury, but he lost his balance and sat down on the ground.
"Raise your guns!" the second lieutenant ordered the wounded soldier beside him.
"We can't shoot! If we attract the Germans, we'll be finished. We have to try to control him!" He Chi shouted, hugging his arms.
"It's useless, he doesn't understand. He is an African-American auxiliary soldier in the Foreign Legion. They only obey orders from their immediate superiors." Christine shouted while hiding behind He Chi.
"Wait, you said he only listens to his superiors in the army?"
"Yes! He only obeys the orders of his superiors in the army." The female reporter repeated, and this time the black giant pounced on her again.
A giant bear-like body rushed over, and the lieutenant in the distance had no choice but to raise his loaded pistol.
The black muzzle of the gun was aimed at the soldier's head, and a tragedy of fratricide seemed to be about to happen.
Suddenly, the giant stopped, without any warning.
Not only did he stop, he also slowly bent down, knelt on his knees, and finally crawled on the ground, constantly making gestures of obedience and worship, and the person he was facing was actually He Chi who was sitting opposite him.
A collar badge was held high one meter ahead. He Chi held his still shaking hands and gasped for breath.
It was the collar insignia of a sergeant in the French Foreign Legion.
"Phew~ That was a close call. It seems his former superior's military rank was not high. At least he still recognized the sergeant's collar badge." He Chi said while panting.
It was at this time that some people realized that He Chi's original military position was in the French Foreign Legion.
But before everyone could breathe a sigh of relief, the giant man kneeling on the ground shook his body and fell to the ground with a plop, stirring up a large cloud of dust and blood flowing out from under him. The people around looked at each other, and the nurses all cast their eyes on He Chi.
"Okay," He Chi nodded reluctantly, "I'll try my best."
The black soldier was very heavy, and it took four people to carry him to the "operating table". His tattered clothes were cut open, and a long wound ran diagonally across his abdomen, which looked like it was caused by a bayonet.
The wound was so deep that the internal organs were exposed.
This was much more serious than Christine's injury, and He Chi had no way to contact Mr. Constantine anymore.
"Let's give it a try." He Chi pondered for a moment and then raised the scalpel in his hand.
That night, the candlelight in the "operating room" remained on all night.
Although He Chi had V2-level surgical skills due to his status as a disciple, he was inexperienced and made several mistakes in succession during the operation, which would have been fatal if it happened to someone else. However, this black soldier had an incredibly tenacious vitality and he managed to survive without any blood transfusion.
Before dawn, He Chi completed the last crooked stitch. The uneven stitches were as ugly as a caterpillar, but the black soldier's breathing finally became steady.
At the same time, the system's voice rang in He Chi's ears: "Players who have completed a V3 or higher level treatment of seriously injured people will be rewarded with 10 silver coins."
-
It was drizzling outside. In the lounge, He Chi was leaning on a sofa, fiddling with the coins in his hand rhythmically. The small silver coin kept rolling in his fingers and then was thrown into the sky, and then the coin suddenly disappeared in the air.
This was his recent discovery. When the time coins exceeded a certain amount, they would automatically hide, and only project a remaining number on his retina until it appeared in his hand when needed.
"How interesting! How did you do that?" A woman behind me exclaimed in surprise.
He Chi didn't look back, because he knew that the only one who could come here when everyone was busy was the curious golden cat.
"It's just a little magic trick from the East, Miss Christine. Your leg is not healed yet and you should rest more." He Chi casually changed the subject.
"I can walk carefully now, thanks to you. By the way, I haven't said thank you to you yet." The blonde girl bowed slightly and gave He Chi a feminine salute.
"It was just luck. I wasn't sure at all at the time." He Chi thought he was telling the truth.
"Not only did you help me with the operation, I heard the nurses talk about the situation at the beginning. If you hadn't held me back, you would have rushed out by now, right? By the way, this is for you." Christine handed a cup to He Chi.
He Chi took the cup and smelled it, and found that there was wine in it.
"I can't drink now." He Chi pushed the cup back. Ever since that black soldier took the initiative, he now has to treat the injuries of the wounded soldiers every day.
"It's already diluted. Margaret said you've been too tired lately and need a rest. A small glass can help you relax. Don't worry, there's plenty. There's a wine cellar in the basement, full of high-proof whiskeys."
Hearing this, He Chi did not refuse and took the cup and drank it all. Christine crossed her legs and sat opposite He Chi in a very elegant posture.
Seeing her sitting position, He Chi smiled slightly, "Madam, are you going to interview me?"
"Is it not possible?" Christine gently pulled her hair with her hands and really picked up her shorthand pen. "We were almost arguing in the last interview. Just consider it as making up for it for me."
"Of course I can, but I'll have to wait until next time." He Chi smiled bitterly and turned his head to the window. In his retina, he saw a small German army unit rapidly approaching the manor.
