Chapter 17: Death and Rebirth

The car drove out of the city and headed towards the mountains.

The further in and up the mountain you go, the steeper the road becomes.

Ning Ruchu grabbed the handrail, his face a little pale.

Yeyue noticed her abnormality and said to the driver in English: "Drive steadily."

The man glanced at the rearview mirror and only slowed down slightly, but he drove very steadily.

After a while, Ning Ruchu regained some of his spirit. He raised his slightly tired almond-shaped eyes and glanced at the back of the person sitting in front of him, his eyes slightly condensed.

……

There is only one mountain road, and it is full of twists and turns, which can easily give people the illusion that they have taken the wrong path.

The fog rose and the road ahead was unclear.

The driver wanted to stop several times, but Ye Yue shouted at him: "Keep driving."

Ning Ruchu tilted his head and silently watched the changes in the surrounding environment. The more he looked, the more he felt something was wrong.

Blindfold?
She had only seen this kind of situation in ancient books.

Qi Men Dun Jia was mostly used in ancient times to deploy troops and generals.

But in modern society, this secret method has almost been lost. How could it still exist?

Ning Ruochu's eyes sank inch by inch, as deep as an abyss.

The car stopped and an old mansion could be vaguely seen from the lush trees ahead.

The space is limited and I can't see carefully.

Ning Ruochu followed Yeyue out of the car.

Looking up, I saw the four big characters "Ye's House" written in a flamboyant style on the plaque.

Her eyes were half-closed.

She had some guesses about Old Madam Ye.

In the wealthy circles of Beijing, there is a rumor about a Feng Shui family.

It is said that it can see into the past and the future, and even change the family's fortune.

But because it is too mysterious, ordinary people don't know where it is.

When she was at the Ning family, her father went through various channels and spent a lot of energy and money to find the Ye family.

But this family seemed to not exist at all. Apart from the known rumors, no information related to the Ye family could be obtained.

After marrying Luo Zhouheng, Ning Ruchu had heard him mention it several times.

People who are in high positions have a stronger belief in these metaphysical theories than ordinary people.

She naturally assumed that Luo Zhouheng was also looking for it.

But now it seems that there is a deviation between conjecture and reality.

The old man who was over fifty years old stepped forward and bowed slightly to Ye Yue: "Commander Ye."

Ning Ruochu raised an eyebrow.

No one would know this name except the forces under Luo Zhouheng who knew of the existence of Shadow Pavilion.

"Butler Ye." Ye Yue nodded slightly, pointed at Ning Ruochu and introduced: "This is Madam."

Butler Ye's eyesight seemed to be not good. He squinted and looked at Ning Ruchu for a few times. His pupils suddenly widened and his brows frowned, with an extremely complicated expression.

"Although Madam's fortune has had its ups and downs, overall, she is considered a blessed person."

After learning Chinese medicine with Qiao Weisong, Ning Ruchu became more convinced of these Chinese metaphysics.

But this was the first time for her to rely on her fate.

Ye Yue glanced sideways at Ning Ruchu, with a hint of inquiry on her solemn face.

She is not familiar with the art of divination.

But how can we conclude that Ning Ruchu is blessed just based on her experience of being stranded outside and losing her husband at a young age?

Metaphysics is a matter that cannot be explained clearly, so Ye Yue did not ask any more questions and walked forward: "Please introduce us to Old Madam Ye." Butler Ye immediately apologized with a smile, "I am negligent, please follow me."

Passing through the gate and following the white walls and green tiles, the huge artificial lake and the exquisitely crafted pavilions and waterside terraces come into view.

Butler Ye led the group across the pier and came to a small building on the opposite bank, where he welcomed the two men in.

There were messy footprints on the wooden floor. Yeyue took a closer look and saw four people's footprints in total.

In addition to Butler Ye and Old Madam Ye, judging by the size and depth of the footprints, there was an elderly man over fifty years old and a young girl.

Ye Yue was a little surprised: "Madam Ye has guests today?"

When I came here just now, I didn't see any vehicles.

"Yes." Butler Ye answered respectfully, "Mrs. Xie and Miss Xie came here a few days ago and said they wanted to stay here for a while."

Upon hearing that it was the Xie family, Ye Yue was stunned for a moment.

Butler Ye knew that she was worried and explained, "Mrs. Xie and the others live in the west courtyard and will not come to disturb us."

In this way, Yeyue felt relieved.

She said to Ning Ruochu: "Madam, Madam Ye is the best fortune teller in Feng Shui. Her predictions are always accurate. I asked you to come here this time because I want to tell you a fortune."

Butler Ye stepped forward with great tact and made a gesture of "please".

"Mrs. Luo, my old lady is waiting for you upstairs."

Ning Ruochu nodded.

As soon as I went upstairs, I could vaguely smell a light fragrance coming from inside. It was not as warm and strong as Western perfume, but rather the fresh and elegant style of ancient incense.

Passing by the only room with its door open, an old woman in a slim-fitting cheongsam was sitting in front of the incense table.

Although she was approaching old age, she maintained a good figure. Her silver hair was neatly combed and tied up with a red coral hairpin, and she wore a string of excellent agate beads on her chest.

She held the jade incense spoon and gently stirred the incense in the glass incense burner.

Circle after circle, neither fast nor slow.

Both her temperament and dignified manners were the best Ning Ruchu had ever seen.

Old Madam Ye slowly raised her eyes and pointed to the position opposite.

"Ma'am, please sit down."

Ning Ruochu walked up to her, acting like a lady from a wealthy family, bowed slightly to her, and greeted her, "Old Madam."

This action made Old Madam Ye laugh.

The kind and deep laughter was very pleasant to hear, and along with the laughter came the fragrance of curling green smoke.

She smiled and said, "Madam, you don't have to be so respectful to me. Mr. Luo has done a favor to my Ye family. Since you are his wife, you are also the benefactor of my Ye family."

Ning Ruochu was stunned.

She hadn't expected this.

Madam Ye looked at the seat in front of her and said, "Please sit down first."

Ning Ruochu sat down opposite her with the cotton doll on her knees.

As soon as she came in, Old Madam Ye saw it and felt it was familiar. She couldn't help but ask: "This doll..."

Ning Ruochu was silent for a moment, his eyes dimmed: "I designed this based on Ah Heng's image."

The smoke from cigarettes blurred her features. Her dark almond-shaped eyes were slightly pink and misty, giving people a hazy feeling as if she was neither drunk nor intoxicated.

Her voice was weak and a little broken.

It seems to be more fragile than the ethereal fragrant mist, and will be blown away by the wind with the slightest movement.

Madam Ye sighed deeply and consoled him, "Mr. Luo's news came too suddenly, and it has dealt a heavy blow to the entire China, but there is still hope for a turnaround."

"Turning point?" Ning Ruochu raised her eyes that seemed to be shining with pearls and jade, "What do you mean?"

Madam Ye looked melancholy as she explained, "To be honest, when the news of Mr. Luo's death came out, I tried to get lucky and cast a divination for him, but the divination I got was that he would survive after a disaster."

She was puzzled: "I have been fortune-telling for fifty years and have never made a mistake. But this hexagram is really strange, and I can't figure out what it means."
