Ah Ling kept rubbing her hands as she paced back and forth at the gate of the mansion. She saw two carriages approaching slowly in front of her, so she walked down the steps briskly and waited.

Zhao Xueying helped Zhang Lanyin carefully get down from the carriage in front. Zhang Lanyin was already four months pregnant and had spent the whole morning with those ladies. Zhang Lanyin was also an elderly pregnant woman and it was a bit difficult for her to hold on to her pregnancy.

Ah Ling lowered her head and bowed to them. After watching the two people walk away, she ran towards the carriage behind with small steps.

Ah Ling was waiting beside the carriage. After waiting for a while, she didn't hear any movement in the carriage. She hesitantly put her ear close to the carriage, but still there was no movement. Then she crawled towards the carriage and carefully lifted a corner of the curtain.

Zhao Shu lay quietly in the carriage. She got up a little early today and vented her emotions to Xie Jin at Duke Xianguo's Mansion. After getting on the carriage, she fell asleep in a daze.

Ah Ling shivered in the wind, and looked at Zhao Shu with struggling eyes. If she didn't wake the girl up now and let her sleep in the carriage, she would definitely catch a cold later. She gently pushed Zhao Shu: "Wake up, girl, let's go back to the yard to sleep."

Zhao Shu vaguely heard someone calling her. She opened her heavy eyelids and saw that it was A Ling. She felt relieved and got off the carriage with A Ling.

Zhao Shu slept very uneasily that night.

Little Zhao Shu had a lot of fun playing with her little brother in Duke Xianguo's Mansion. Although she was forgotten in Duke Xianguo's Mansion by her parents, that night was the best night she slept.

The next day, little Zhao Shu got up from bed early, and with great effort, she used her little arms and legs to draw a small basin of water from the well. She didn't even bother to heat it up, and just clumsily washed her face with the cold water.

Little Zhao Shu ran out happily and pulled little A Ling, who was washing clothes, over to sit together on the stone steps at the gate of the courtyard. She took out a flower rope from her arms like a magician, and they played with the flower rope together with their big hands touching their small hands.

When little A Ling was very young, she was sold to a human trafficker by her brother and sister-in-law. The housekeeper felt sorry for little A Ling and spent one or two taels of silver to buy her from the human trafficker.

It happened that it was little A Ling who reported the eldest girl's fever, so the housekeeper Shun'er kept her in the eldest girl's courtyard.

The two played until noon, until little Zhao Shu's stomach made a "gurgling" sound. Little Zhao Shu covered her flat stomach with both hands and said shyly, "A Ling, I'm hungry."

Little A Ling nodded, ran to the kitchen with her short legs, and brought back two steamed buns, a small piece of fermented bean curd, and porridge with a few grains of rice floating in it.

The two of them quickly finished eating those things with relish. Little Zhaoshu held the bowl of porridge in both hands and buried her little face in the bowl to lick it. Ah Ling watched little Zhaoshu's actions and swallowed her saliva. In fact, she was not full either.

When Xiao Zhaoshu heard Ah Ling swallowing her saliva, she raised her little face and said incoherently: "Ah Ling, in another one, two, or three hours?"

Little Zhao Shu couldn't tell how many hours it was. She shook her little head and put down the bowl that had been licked clean: "Anyway, we can have dinner soon!"

Ah Ling silently put away the dishes and went to the kitchen to wash them. She and Xiao Zhaoshu washed their own dishes. If they did not wash them after meals, the kitchen nanny would not give them food when they got their next meal.

Little Zhao Shu stood alone at the gate of the yard, holding on to the door frame and jumping out and back in.

Footsteps were heard from a distance, and Xiao Zhaoshu immediately hid behind the door frame. "The second young lady had a fever last night, and Madam was so worried that she didn't sleep all night. You and I must not make any mistakes when serving her later."

Seeing no movement, little Zhao Shu secretly poked out half of her head, and watched the two people walk away with her round eyes. She ran back to her room and fiddled with it for a while. When she came out, her arms were bulging, and she didn't know what she put in them.

Little Zhao Shu avoided the maids' sight and came to Zhang Lanyin's yard as she knew the place well.

Even though Xiao Zhaoshu hasn't come here many times in public, she has come here quite a few times in private.

Once, when little Zhaoshu was sick, she followed the servants into Zhang Lanyin's yard. When she saw Zhang Lanyin, she couldn't hold back her emotions and rushed over to hug her calves. After Zhang Lanyin saw that it was her, she pulled her calves back sharply and threw her to the ground. Little Zhaoshu's chin hit Zhang Lanyin's calf and it quickly swelled up. Zhang Lanyin ignored little Zhaoshu's crying, but ordered the servants in a hoarse voice to carry her out after she fell to the ground, and warned the servants not to let her come over again.

After that, little Zhao Shu never dared to come to Zhang Lanyin's place openly again, but when she was scared at night occasionally, she would quietly come over and hide under the window to watch her mother humming ballads to coax her sister to sleep. As she watched, she would feel that the person in her mother's arms was herself. When she went to bed at night, she would roll the quilt around her body, recalling the ballads her mother hummed, and she would not be afraid of anything.

Little Zhao Shu curled up under the window coffin and listened to her father talking to her mother about whether they had eaten or not. After a while, the footsteps of the two people faded away.

Little Zhao Shu bent her little body and came into the room. Seeing her sister sleeping obediently in the rocking cot, she quickly put the rattle she was holding tightly next to her sister's head. Looking at her sister's rosy little face, little Zhao Shu thought it looked very much like her favorite cake. Just as she was about to bend down to give her a kiss, she was pushed to the ground by a force.

Little Zhao Shu sat on the ground looking at her mother blankly. When she saw her mother throw the rattle next to her sister's head on the ground, little Zhao Shu couldn't help crying out "Wow". That was the toy her father bought for her and it was also her only toy.

Zhao Yao, who heard the noise in the house, hurried in. Seeing Xiao Zhaoshu suddenly appear, he was slightly surprised and walked towards Zhang Lanyin who was in an unstable mood: "What happened?"

Zhang Lanyin said in a low voice with tears in her eyes: "Let her go out, let her go out!"

Zhao Yao quickly comforted him, "Okay, okay."

Before Zhao Yao could reach little Zhao Shu, little Zhao Shu got up from the ground and ran out.

After watching little Zhao Shu run away, Zhao Yao turned around and wanted to continue to comfort Zhang Lanyin, but his foot was hit by something. He looked down and his eyes froze. It was the rattle he bought when he took Xiao Xueying to the street during the Spring Festival last year. He gave it to little Zhao Shu during the Lantern Festival.

The one that Xiao Xueying had is long gone, but I didn’t expect that the one that Xiao Zhaoshu had is still here.

Zhao Yao bent down to pick up the rattle at his feet, and chased after him with big strides. Zhao Yao looked at the little figure walking alone on the stone road and called out, "Shu'er." When little Zhao Shu heard her father's voice, she immediately turned around and looked at Zhao Yao with red eyes. Zhao Yao took a step forward and squatted in front of little Zhao Shu, handing her the rattle, "Shu'er's rattle."

Little Zhao Shu wanted to cry but was afraid that her father would not like it, so she held it back and lowered her head: "Thank you, Daddy."

Zhao Yao touched Xiao Zhaoshu's head and wanted to say something but didn't know what to say: "Be obedient."

Zhao Yao continued: "Do you know the way back?" Little Zhao Shu nodded.

Zhao Yao said gently: "Then you go back first, Daddy still has to take care of your sister. Daddy will bring you a toy next time, okay?"

When she heard the word "toy", Xiao Zhaoshu felt less sad and more eager. She said in a soft voice, "Okay."

She wants so many toys, five! Never mind, five is too many, two, yeah, just two!

Little Xie Jin followed her mother to the Xuanping Marquis Mansion today to visit Zhao Xueying, who fell ill after returning from the banquet last night.

Looking at his mother holding his aunt's hand and talking about something, little Xie Jin walked out of the yard bored. He suddenly thought of the little chatterbox from last night. It should be less boring with her around.

Little Xie Jin called the maid in front of him and thought for a moment. The little girl seemed to call him "Shu Shu": "Which courtyard does your Miss Shu live in? Take me to find her."

When the maid heard that the young guest was going to find the eldest girl, she was stunned, but she still led him there respectfully.

Little Xie Jin stood at the gate of the courtyard and looked at little Zhao Shu who was sitting with her back to the steps. He straightened his robe, walked towards little Zhao Shu, and patted her right shoulder. Little Zhao Shu turned her head and looked over but didn't see anyone. Little Xie Jin sat down on the empty space on the left. When little Zhao Shu saw him, she called out sullenly, "Little brother."

Seeing the spiritless little Zhao Shu, Xiao Xie Jin felt a little unhappy, but he didn't know why he was unhappy. He looked at Zhao Shu for a few times and said, "Do you like to eat candied haws? I'll bring some for you next time, okay?"

Little Zhao Shu looked at Little Xie Jin in confusion: "What is a candied haws? Is it delicious?"

Little Xie Jin coaxed him, "It's sour and sweet and delicious."

Xiao Zhaoshu immediately drooled: "Okay, okay, thank you, little brother."

When little Xie Jin saw the rattle in little Zhao Shu's arms, he raised his little face and asked, "What do you want to exchange for it?"

Didn't you want to bring the candied haws to others? !

Little Zhao Shu lowered her head in disappointment: "I have nothing."

Little Xie Jin reached out to take the rattle, but little Zhao Shu quickly protected the rattle in her arms and turned aside defensively: "No, this won't do!"

After a while, he turned back to his little face and negotiated, "Wait until Daddy buys me new toys, then I'll give you other toys, okay?"

Little Xie Jin looked at Little Zhao Shu's unhappy expression and said angrily, "If you don't want to give it to me, then don't give it to me. Who cares?"

Little Zhao Shu asked cautiously: "Then little brother, will you bring me some candied haws?"

Xiao Xie Jin said in a firm voice: "I mean what I say. I'm not as stingy as you!"

Little Zhao Shu leaned her head over and said flatteringly: "I will keep my word. As long as Daddy buys me a new toy, I will choose one for you."

Little Xie Jin turned her face away proudly: "Humph!"

The two chatted in childish language for the entire afternoon, sometimes talking about food, sometimes about fun, it was such a great time!

It was not until Zhou Huijie's maid came over that the two reluctantly said goodbye. Little Zhao Shu held back tears and waved her hand: "Little brother, remember to bring the candied haws."

Little Xie Jin quickened his pace angrily. This little chatterbox only remembered candied haws!
