The two stopped in front of a yard. Zhao Shu turned her head and looked at Mianru carefully. Seeing that she was not sad because of what those people said, she couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

Looking up at the small courtyard, there is a bamboo fence in front of it. There are a few scattered purple morning glories in the gaps between the fence. Looking further inside, there is a yard of neither big nor small. On the right side of the yard, there is a small open space enclosed by a fence. There are two chickens, a duck and three geese in it. The two chickens are pecking at corn kernels on the muddy ground with their beaks.

On the left side is a shed, under which stands a stove and some old pots and pans, and in a wooden basin sits a large round cabbage.

A few steps to the left from the poultry pen is the inner room. Zhao Shu took a look and found that the house was simply furnished. There was a wooden table and two chairs in the hall, and a kang bed in the bedroom. The bedding was neatly folded and placed in the middle of the kang bed. There was a wooden door separating the inner room from the hall, and the curtain nailed to the wooden door was now tied neatly and hung in the air.

Zhao Shu was a little confused. Why didn't she see Mian Ru's mother and brother? Did they go out? Zhao Shu thought so and asked.

Mian Ru turned to look at Zhao Shu, then turned back and said as she lowered her head to add more water to her cup: "My mother and brother both passed away two years ago."

Zhao Shu wanted to comfort her but didn't know how to start. For a moment, the air was as silent as smoke.

"He died in a fire." Mianru said lightly.

Zhao Shu looked at Mian Ru apologetically and said slowly: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean it."

"It's okay, it's all over." Mianru smiled softly at her.

Looking at her smile, Zhao Shu pursed her lips.

The cup of tea was soon finished. Mian Ru stretched her head to look at the sky outside. It was almost noon. She turned around and said to Zhao Shu, "Shu'er, I want to go to the field to pick some vegetables. Do you want to go?"

Zhao Shu nodded: "Okay."

Zhao Shu saw Mian Ru coming out of the fence shed with a bamboo basket. She quickly stopped Mian Ru from carrying the bamboo basket on her back, took the bamboo basket from Mian Ru, put it on her back, and smiled at her, "Let's go."

Mian Ru was stunned for a second, then smiled softly, "Yeah."

Although the two of them went to the fields to pick vegetables, Mianru was introducing the surrounding scenery to her along the way, which was quite interesting.

Mianru pointed to a hexagonal pavilion on the slope and said to her: In her spare time, she would go to sit in the pavilion, where she could see all the scenery of the village.

Zhao Shu looked in the direction where Mianru's finger pointed. The pavilion stood on the hillside. There was a man sitting on a stone bench with his head resting on his hands. It seemed as if he was looking at something, but because the man was sitting with his back turned, the expression on his face could not be seen.

The man suddenly tilted his head, and the light shone on his handsome profile.

Zhao Shu's eyes were fixed. Why was he here? Looking at his figure, Zhao Shu no longer had the mood to appreciate the scenery. She took Mian Ru's hand and was about to leave.

"Cousin Shu'er?!" a familiar voice sounded.

Zhao Shu walked faster and faster.

Mian Ru looked at the anxious Zhao Shu in confusion and said hesitantly, "Shu'er, I think I heard someone calling you?"

"You heard it wrong!" Without stopping, he turned around and looked at her with a smile.

"Oh." Did she really hear it wrong?
"Cousin Shu'er!" The voice was getting closer. Zhao Shu pretended not to hear it, and her feet were still moving fast.

Mianru was now sure that she had heard correctly, so she turned her head back and saw a man chasing after them.

Zhao Shu's steps were stopped by a force. She turned around and looked at Mian Ru, whose face was flushed red. She pulled her to a stop with great effort and asked gently, "What's wrong?"

"Someone is really calling you." Mianru said softly.

Well, you can’t pretend to be deaf anymore.

Turning around, a bright smile appeared on his face, and he waved at the newcomer: "Why is the prince here too?"

Seeing Zhao Shu stop, Xie Jin changed his quick pace and walked towards her casually.

She touched the fan to the palm of her left hand twice in a coquettish manner and said with a smile: "Oh, why do I see that my cousin Shuer, you don't seem to want to see me." Although the corners of her mouth were raised, the smile did not reach her eyes.

"Haha, how could that be?" Zhao Shu laughed awkwardly.

Xie Jin looked at Zhao Shu with a fake smile. Don't think he doesn't know what she is thinking!
The two of them just stared at each other back and forth.

A weak voice sounded from the side: "Um. Are we still going to the fields?"

Zhao Shu's face turned red. Yes, Mianru was still waiting for her.

Then she secretly glanced at Xie Jin again, and seeing that he was still looking at her, her face became hot, and she hurriedly withdrew her gaze, stammering, "Go away."

"Then this young man..." Mianru glanced at Xie Jin and said in a low voice.

Zhao Shu paused, then turned to Xie Jin, but her eyes were elsewhere: "Sir, please go and do your business. We won't keep you any longer."

"Nothing." Xie Jin looked at Zhao Shu.

Zhao Shu didn't react, but Mian Ru did. She looked at the stunned Zhao Shu, then looked at the man who had been staring at Zhao Shu from the beginning until now. After thinking for a while, she said hesitantly, "Shu'er and I are going to the fields. If you don't mind, come with us." "No."

"He despises it!"

Two voices sounded at the same time. Zhao Shu looked at Xie Jin in surprise and said, "Young Master..." We were just being polite!

Xie Jin interrupted what Zhao Shu was about to say: "I just happen to have nothing to do, so I'll go with you to experience the rural scenery."

Wasn't he just enjoying the countryside?

Zhao Shu forced a smile: "Okay."

Xie Jin took the lead and walked in front. After walking for a while, he saw that the two people had not caught up. He turned around and looked at Zhao Shu and said mockingly: "Why, do you want me to go over and invite you?"

Looking at Xie Jin's arrogant look, Zhao Shu greeted Xie Jin from head to toe in her heart. When she felt relieved, she immediately raised her little face, smiled brightly and said, "I'll be right there."

Then he took Mianru's little hand and looked at her apologetically.

Mian Ru smiled faintly: "Let's go."

What comes into view is a large vegetable field. Of course, these vegetable fields do not belong to one person, but to people from the entire village. There is a small ditch between each vegetable field, and each household’s vegetable field is separated by these ditches.

Zhao Shu was quite excited to see such a large field. She turned to look at Mian Ru with sparkling eyes.

Mianru looked at her excited expression, chuckled, and led her to the fields that belonged to her.

Xie Jin looked at the obviously happy backs of the two people, then looked at the muddy ground beneath his feet. His brows slightly frowned, and he slowly lowered his foot that had been raised in the air back to its original place. He crossed his hands in front of his chest and looked at the two people on the ground like a boss.

Zhao Shu had always longed for a pastoral life, and now that she could experience it for herself, she couldn't help but feel excited. She got carried away and didn't look at the ground under her feet, and accidentally stepped into the wet mud.

"Bang!" Zhao Shu's butt hit the ground, her palms stuck in the mud, and she was in a daze.

When Xie Jin saw Zhao Shu fall, his heart tightened and his muscles tensed up reflexively.

When Mianru saw Zhao Shu fall, before she could react, a black shadow flashed past her eyes.

Although Xie Jin rushed over at the beginning, he was still a step too late.

Looking at Zhao Shu who was sitting on the ground foolishly, Xie Jin chuckled.

When Zhao Shu looked at him with her eyes wide open in confusion, he restrained himself a little and thought to himself that he should not be too gloating, otherwise she would be angry when she realized it.

He cleared his cough, reached out and pulled Zhao Shu up from the ground.

Seeing Zhao Shu, who had already stood up but was still staring at him blankly, Xie Jin felt itchy in his heart. He clenched his hands slightly behind his back. After a while, he sighed softly, loosened his clenched hands, raised his hands and rubbed her head, coaxing: "It's okay, we won't lose face."

Zhao Shu's face suddenly turned red. She shook off the burning temperature on her wrist, ran to Mian Ru, and lowered her head with a red face.

Zhao Shu saw that there was mud under her skirt. Needless to say, the back must be even more horrible. Thinking about walking on the street back home in a large patch of mud, she felt a little annoyed.

Mian Ru said gently: "Shu'er, if you don't mind, I just happen to have a new set of clothes. You can change out of this one and I'll wash it for you. You can take it next time you come."

Hearing this, Zhao Shu's annoyance mostly dissipated, and she said happily, "Okay!" This way, when she returned home, the servants wouldn't report to her grandmother unless they saw how embarrassed she was, and she wouldn't have to explain to her grandmother.

The three of them returned to Mianru's home. After Zhao Shu took the clothes handed to her by Mianru, she went to the inner room to change into them.

Zhao Shu lifted the curtain and walked out. Xie Jin stood in the yard and looked at Zhao Shu, who was dressed simply. The simple coarse linen dress did not make her look rustic at all, but instead made her look more fragile, which made people feel pity for her.

After looking at Xie Jin outside, Zhao Shu said goodbye to Mianru in a gentle voice and said that she would see her next time.

She originally wanted to stay at Mianru's house for lunch. They hadn't seen each other for a long time and she wanted to stay with her for a while. But they couldn't possibly not invite Xie Jin to their meal and leave him outside alone. The food here must be rather bland, and Xie Jin had a sharp tongue. What if he said something unpleasant and hurt Mianru? After thinking about it, she decided it would be better for her to go back. That way, Xie Jin would have no reason to stay at a single woman's house.

On the way back, Zhao Shu deliberately kept a distance from Xie Jin. Looking at Xie Jin who was surrounded by women five or six meters away from her, Zhao Shu turned her head with satisfaction. She didn't want to get herself into trouble.

Xie Jin looked at Zhao Shu, who wished she could be eight hundred meters away from him, and sneered, "Who cares!"
