Chapter 666 A Whale Fall
As soon as the meeting ended, the sea creatures left faster than anyone else.
To the others at the meeting, the sea people seemed to be walking faster than usual because they were unhappy about the mention of Princess Potty.
The sea creatures have always been aloof and arrogant, so no one thought anything was wrong.
Only a small fraction of the meeting attendees detected the subtle restlessness beneath the calm exteriors of the royal family members.
Naturally, they connected this to the reason why Farrell and the others had given them the cold shoulder.
These cold and volatile creatures of the ocean became calm because of a little person, and instead concealed their rage deep inside.
"It's really weird."
Caesar stared at the disappearing figures of Farrell and the others, his eyes filled with doubt.
"What's wrong?"
Yana, looking listless, slumped over the table and tilted her head to look at him.
Her face had grown some scales due to the mutation, and she had been having nightmares for several days in a row due to mental pollution.
This is almost the norm for sentinels entering contaminated areas; having nightmares is considered mild, as many sentinels have begun to experience hallucinations.
They had only been in the contaminated area for less than five days. Yana and the others tried their best to hold on and not add to the guide's burden. If it really got too much, they would take acupuncture to suppress the symptoms.
“They were too calm,” Caesar said.
“They’re not usually like this; they always have a cold face towards everyone.” Yana paused. “However, they seem quite quiet today. Everyone else was arguing so much they were about to fight, but they barely said a word to each other.”
Yana hissed, sensing something was wrong, and sat up straighter. "Are the Sea Clan Sentinels really that resistant to pollution?"
“You have no idea how crazy they were when they pushed the defensive line.” Alan sat behind Yana, his head resting against the back of her chair, looking equally dejected. “These sea creature sentinels are just tough to hold on to. I’ve been dreaming about a faceless monster chasing me for four days in a row.”
Xize pondered, "The concentration of contamination in the North Second District has exceeded the highest level of strong four in previous assessments. Even the strongest sentinels would be affected by the mutation, but they seem to be unaffected. They don't have guides, and as far as I know, they don't even use guide essence. They don't prepare any medicine when entering the contaminated area."
Yana: "I used to be with the sea creatures. I remember they were also affected and mutated by the pollution. Their mania was no less than that of ordinary sentinels. Sometimes they had to use wounds and pain to stay conscious."
After she finished speaking, she and Xize exchanged a glance, and both of them touched their chins as if deep in thought.
The sea creatures' reaction simply cannot withstand close scrutiny.
The deeper I think about it, the more unsettling it feels like I'm uncovering unseen secrets.
Alan interrupted their thoughts, "Hey, don't they have that little princess?"
Yana and Caesar turned their heads toward him simultaneously, and even the young master, who had been resting with his eyes closed and hadn't spoken, suddenly opened his eyes and turned to stare at him.
"Say it again?" Alex's voice was icy.
Alan perked up at their sudden gazes. "Don't you know the characteristics of the sea race? Their spiritual energy can circulate. Higher-level sea races can enhance the spiritual energy of lower-level sea races. They don't have self-healing abilities, so I guess that's how they recover."
Yana: "Being able to heal oneself doesn't mean one won't be affected. I do know about the increasing spiritual power of the sea creatures, but it depends on the highest-ranking sea creature being able to withstand it. I saw them in a polluted area with a medium level of pollution before, and they all needed to be divided into small teams. The highest-ranking sea creature in each team had spiritual power that could withstand the effects of the pollution."
Xize: "That's right. They have to balance out the damage caused by the pollution. Leaving one out will cause an imbalance in mental damage, which will then link to every sea creature and cause them to mentally collapse."
This is why the sea creatures are so incredibly powerful. The strongest among them empower those below them, and as those below become stronger, they transfer their power back to the stronger ones, creating a cycle that's like a perpetual motion machine.
However, power comes at a price. The sea creatures understand this, which is why they also tread carefully when entering polluted areas. They possess interconnected spiritual seas, yet remain isolated from one another, and this is not entirely due to internal strife.
Their method of fighting back is to divide into small teams to bear the damage in the contaminated area.
As their mental strength increases, so does the damage they inflict. If the damage isn't shared, once the highest-ranking sea creature suffers a mental breakdown, they're all doomed.
So no matter how much the sea creatures fight amongst themselves, they all behave themselves once they enter the polluted area.
However, not many people know the details of this characteristic of the sea creatures. They only know that they have powerful self-healing abilities, and the sea creatures will not specifically tell others about it.
Yana and Caesar are military doctors who learned about this characteristic of the sea creatures by frequently entering and leaving the contaminated area and conducting research.
Yana turned on the pollution detection instrument and checked the recorded values. "If we consider the way they share the damage, the impact of mental pollution is enough for them to beat those people to a pulp."
Alan: "Based on their abilities, wouldn't the damage be distributed more evenly?"
Yana glanced at him. "Are you stupid? How high is the pollution level right now? If it were balanced, they would be even more irritable than we are now. Just because their mental defense is high doesn't mean they won't be affected."
Alan said "Oh," and then asked, "So they were faking it just now?"
Xize said, "It doesn't seem like it."
Alan: "Then why are they able to do it so easily?"
Yana held up two fingers. "There are only two possibilities: one, the one with the highest rank has such strong mental power that it can mitigate damage to the greatest extent, while also enhancing their abilities and strengthening their self-healing properties."
Alan: "What about number two?"
Xize reached out and pressed down Yana's fingers, saying softly, "The second possibility is to push all the damage upwards to the maximum extent, so that the one with the strongest mental power can bear it alone."
Alan's eyes widened in shock. "Holy crap, if they do this, won't the higher-ups be tortured to death? This is so many times more mentally polluting! Won't they face backlash if they do this?"
Xize: "Yes, but if the leaders below the King level agree to kill their leader before the mental damage rebounds, they can rebalance the damage chain."
As soon as he finished speaking, Alex couldn't sit still any longer, stood up, and quickly walked out.
Caesar shook his head as he watched Alex's hurried departure.
Young master, there's no way a snake and a dolphin could be together!
Alan was now fully awake. "Why would they do that?!"
Nishizawa: "Doing this is either to seize power or to sacrifice the strongest one to increase the collective strength in the shortest amount of time."
"When a whale falls, all things come to life; this is the powerful force that the ocean bestows upon its creatures."
Alan was a little worried about the little princess's safety. "Then...then...then isn't the little princess going to be killed by them?"
Yana's expression turned serious.
Considering the conflict between sea creatures, this possibility is very high.
That woman is both a princess and a queen, possessing dual power.
"But they've only just entered the contaminated area, aren't they in too much of a hurry?" Yana said.
Xize gave him a look that said, "You're really too young. It's easier to make a move when you first come in. The further you go, the deeper the connection between them will become. If the sea creatures are united enough, you will see a spectacular sight that can only be seen in the sea."
