Chapter 353, Part 352: The Second Trial! Victory!
The air in the arena seemed to freeze, the aftershocks of magic still echoing in the air, as if the entire space was waiting for the next storm to arrive.
Heca-Ul.
One of the greatest legendary sorcerers of ancient Egypt, he was revered as the "Father of Magic." It is said that he once single-handedly quelled a divine punishment. He was the only sorcerer in ancient Egyptian history to be revered as a demigod during his lifetime, possessing power derived from the gods.
In the name of Ra!
The moment the spear was hurled, space was torn apart, leaving a trail of burning light. This was no ordinary attack; it was a fatal blow imbued with the divinity of the sun god!
Yes, those flames were no ordinary fire, but the manifestation of the wrath of the sun god Ra. Each flame twisted the surrounding space and scorched the laws of reality!
"That's something, the power of rules, isn't it?"
Ian's pupils contracted sharply. He could see countless tiny golden runes wrapped around the spear—the manifestation of divine script, each symbol containing enough power to destroy a city. Before the spear even arrived, the terrifying heatwave had already caused his black robe to curl and char.
There was an uproar in the audience.
"The Spear of Divine Punishment! He's dead!"
"No one can withstand the wrath of the sun god!"
"End this, you arrogant wizard!"
Ian's virtual audience huddled together in tension.
"Oh no, oh no, what do we do now?"
"Lord Ian, get out of the way!"
Ian did not dodge.
"interesting."
Instead, Ian's lips curled into a smile, and he twirled his wand three times between his fingers. "Then let's try this—"
"Glacialis Aeternum!" (Eternal Glacier)
A blinding blue-white light burst forth from the tip of the wand, and water molecules in the air rapidly condensed along the path of the divine spear. It wasn't ordinary ice, but "Eternal Ice" that Ian had collected from the Arctic Abyss, every inch of it inscribed with ancient runes that resisted the intense heat.
The moment the blue flames collided with the eternal ice, the entire arena was engulfed in a blinding white light. The souls in the stands raised their hands to shield their eyes, and even Anubis had to squint. When the light faded, a crystal-clear iceberg appeared in the center of the arena, and the Divine Fire Spear was frozen inside, its flames still flickering but unable to break free of the ice's confinement.
A hint of surprise flashed in Heca-Ur's Starry Eyes. He raised his serpentine staff, and the gem at the staff's head suddenly split into twelve points of light, forming a complex constellation pattern in the air.
"Duat Invocatio!" (Summoning from the Underworld)
The ground began to tremble, and twelve gilded mummies rose from beneath the obsidian floor. They wore priestly robes, and their withered hands held scepters inlaid with scarabs. Even more terrifying, they were surrounded by a grayish-white mist—cursed soul dust that would instantly age any living thing that touched it.
Ian whistled: "The Scourge? Old trick, but effective."
He quickly pulled an exquisite crystal hourglass from his purse; the sand inside was an eerie blood red.
"Tempus Vermis!" (The Time Insect)
The instant the hourglass reversed, countless tiny red specks of light poured out of the bottle's mouth. Upon closer inspection, they weren't sand grains at all, but miniature time worms! They swarmed towards the gilded mummy, burrowing into the joints of its withered body.
A chilling scene unfolded—the mummies' movements suddenly slowed to an extreme degree, as if slowed down tenfold. They moved with difficulty, and the swinging of their scepters became comical.
“The time worms will gnaw at the flow of time around them,” Ian explained to the audience, as if giving a magic lesson. “The effect lasts… well, about three minutes?”
Hecar-Ur snorted coldly and slammed his staff heavily on the ground. The mummies suddenly exploded en masse, turning into a cloud of golden dust. The dust reformed in mid-air, forming a massive net woven from incantations that descended upon Ian.
"Netjer Enchain!" (My bondage)
Ian calmly took a palm-sized bronze pyramid model from his purse. He tossed it gently, and the model rapidly expanded in the air, transforming into a complete pyramid energy field that enveloped him. The spell net landed on the pyramid's surface, emitting a teeth-grinding friction sound, but it couldn't break through.
"Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry's latest masterpiece—yes, the master is me. Don't look at me like that; it's about time I became a master myself." Ian tapped the inner wall of the pyramid. "Based on improvements to the fourth-generation protective spell, it incorporates…"
His words were interrupted by a sudden tremor. Heca-Ur had somehow floated into the air, holding aloft a black sphere that was constantly expanding. It was not ordinary darkness, but underworld energy compressed to its limit, its surface occasionally flashing with the faces of tormented souls.
He took out a seemingly ordinary bronze mirror from his money bag, but the mirror surface was covered with complex alchemical runes.
His words were interrupted by a sudden tremor. Heca-Ur had somehow floated into the air, holding aloft a black sphere that was constantly expanding. It was not ordinary darkness, but underworld energy compressed to its limit, its surface occasionally flashing with the faces of tormented souls.
"Osiris' Judgment!"
As the black sphere fell, cracks appeared in space. Ian could feel his magical shield being corroded, and rust began to appear on the surface of the pyramid model.
“Okay, serious mode.” Ian dropped his joking expression, his wand spinning a perfect silver circle in his palm. Simultaneously, his left hand produced three items from his purse:
A test tube containing a rainbow-colored liquid
A black obsidian slab engraved with runes
A scarab beetle sealed in amber
"Arcana Triplex!"
Liquid from the test tube spilled into the air, forming a rainbow barrier; obsidian slabs shattered, releasing ancient protective spells; scarabs within amber awoke, spreading their wings and emitting a piercing buzz—this was the terror of a potions master combined with an alchemy master.
On-site response measures were implemented.
The moment the black sphere collided with the triple defense, the entire arena was enveloped in a distorted force field. The souls in the audience were horrified to find their forms constantly changing—some became mummies, some became animals, and some even degenerated into specks of soul light.
When the chaos subsided, a crater a hundred meters in diameter appeared in the center of the arena. Ian stood at the edge of the crater, his black robe tattered, but the silver light in his eyes burned even brighter. Heca-Ur was in no better shape; his star-patterned robe was torn in half, revealing his body shimmering with starlight beneath.
"Again!" The ancient legendary wizard's will was unwavering. Although he looked somewhat disheveled, his eyes were full of fighting spirit.
After a brief pause.
"Fiery Arrow!" Heca-Ur made the first move, waving his staff and unleashing a blazing fire dragon spear that shot straight at Ian!
"Speculum Divinitas!" (Mirror of Divinity)
The moment the spear struck the mirror, its reflection suddenly came to life! An identical blue flaming spear shot out from the mirror, colliding with Heca-Ur's attack in mid-air!
boom--! ! !
The shockwave from the explosion sent both men flying. Ian crashed through two stone pillars before coming to a stop, while Heca-Ul was half-buried in the rubble of the collapsed stands.
“I’m not just a wizard, I’m also a master alchemist.” When the smoke cleared, Ian was unharmed, but the other side was in a much worse state.
Heca-Ur rose from the ruins, his star-studded robes now dull and blood trickling from the corner of his mouth, but his silver-gray right eye remained bright.
"My turn! I can play with fire too, I'm the fire mage Ian~" Ian started with Fiery Blaze, the blazing flames sweeping towards his opponent.
Heca-Ur's eyes narrowed, and he swung his staff again, chanting the incantation.
"The Ever-Frozen Wall!"
A barrier made of ice rose instantly, and the fire dragon crashed into the ice wall, exploding with a deafening roar. Water vapor and flames intertwined, forming a swirling mist.
Sure enough, the ancient sorcerers had a way to deal with Fiendfire—in the stands, the "ghosts of the audience" from ancient Egyptian history erupted in deafening shouts.
"Hecar-Ul! Hecar-Ul!"
"He is the father of magic!"
"He once single-handedly repelled a hundred enemy mages on the banks of the Nile!"
Meanwhile, Ian's "virtual audience" were not to be outdone, shouting loudly:
"Ian! Ian! Ian!" "The genius wizard of Hogwarts!"
"Potion Master! Alchemist!"
He changed the world with magic!
The emotional value provided by the spectator stands was substantial.
"Triple Stone Spear Technique!" Heca-Ur immediately cast a spell, and the ground cracked open, with countless stone spears piercing out from the earth, pointing directly at Ian's location!
Ian flashed forward, a magic circle lit up beneath his feet, and he instantly appeared in mid-air, avoiding the fatal attack.
"Then I'll unleash six lightning arrows!" He swung his hand back in mid-air, and three lightning arrows shot out, striking Heca-Ul with the force of thunder!
It was as if the story was repeating itself.
Having learned a great deal of ancient magic in ancient Greece, Ian, now quite adept at it, also wants to put it into practice.
"You've studied quite a wide range of things."
Hecar-Ur remained calm, held his staff horizontally, and chanted an ancient incantation: "Holy Shield, Protection of the Sun God!"
Another golden shield of light appeared, blocking all the thunder arrows once again. Amidst the sparks of electricity, it illuminated the entire arena time and time again.
It looks like things are about to turn back into the way they were before.
"Soul Fire!" Heca-Ur cast the spell again, and a ball of fire burning with soul fire flew out, carrying the power to scorch the soul, heading straight for Ian!
Ian's eyes narrowed, and he quickly rolled away to dodge. But the moment the fireball hit the ground, the entire ground collapsed, forming a huge crater filled with eerie blue flames that seemed to devour even the soul.
"Alchemy - Soul Armor!" Ian swiftly cast a defensive spell, and an armor combining alchemy and potion-making appeared on his body, blocking the aftershocks of the soul fire.
“You’re strong.” Ian slowly straightened up, gripping his wand tightly. “But I’m not one to be trifled with either.”
He took a deep breath, raised his wand high, and chanted an extremely complex incantation:
"Elemental Fusion - Arcane Storm!"
A massive magical vortex suddenly appeared in the sky, where the five elemental forces of wind, fire, water, earth, and lightning intertwined, forming a storm that swept across the entire arena!
Heca-Ul looked up at the sky, a hint of seriousness finally appearing in his eyes.
He slowly raised his staff, chanting the oldest incantation of ancient Egypt: "Holy Shield, Thoth's Protection!"
A golden light curtain unfolded in the air, barely managing to withstand the impact of the arcane storm.
Even so, he had to retreat several steps, the ground beneath his feet torn apart by the magical storm and turned into scorched earth.
As the battle continued, the arena was no longer what it used to be. The aftershocks of magic swept around, shattering stone pillars, tearing the ground apart, and filling the air with fluctuations of magical energy. Fortunately, Anubis was constantly limiting the spread of the magic.
"Eye of the Storm!" Heca-Ur raised his staff, and a massive storm instantly condensed in the sky, crackling with lightning and howling winds, as if it would devour the entire arena.
Ian did not back down. He quickly drew an alchemical array under his feet and chanted, "Gateway to the Void!"
A silver-white portal unfolded behind him, instantly drawing in the raging wind, which was then transformed into an invisible force and transferred to another dimension.
"Chains of Gravity!" Heca-Ur cast a spell again, and several invisible chains emerged from the void, rushing towards Ian in an attempt to bind him.
Ian sneered, tapped his wand lightly, and uttered, "Mass Reversal!"
The next second, the chains not only failed to bind him, but were instead bounced back and struck Heca-Ul!
Heca-Ul reacted quickly, immediately casting "Shield of Light" to block the rebounding magical chains, but he was also knocked back several steps by the impact.
“Interesting.” A hint of admiration flashed in Heca-Ur’s eyes. “You are no ordinary wizard.”
“You’re no ordinary enemy either.” Ian’s lips curled up slightly, his eyes revealing a sense of interest as he remarked on the richness of the ancient legend.
"However, I will not lose today." This is the belief that a legendary wizard should have, and Ian certainly has a truly invincible heart.
“I have a trick that transcends time.” Ian suddenly revealed a sly smile and took out an ordinary-looking copper pot from his money bag.
“Let me show you what modern alchemy is all about.” He uncorked the kettle, and a wisp of smoke drifted out, transforming into a blurry human figure in the air. Shockingly, the figure gradually became clearer, eventually transforming into—another Hecar-Ul!
This is something Ian developed after he encountered certain events.
“A Mirror Alchemical Golem,” Ian explained, “that can perfectly replicate the target’s magical traits. Of course, since this is currently only an experimental version, not the final version, there are still many shortcomings, and it only lasts for five minutes, but that should be enough?”
The two Hecar-Ur exchanged bewildered glances, their starry eyes filled with disbelief. Meanwhile, Ian had leisurely strolled to the sidelines, pulled out a bag of popcorn from somewhere, and began watching the match.
“You…” Even the real Heca-Ur’s voice trembled.
“Oh, and by the way,” Ian added, “it will also get stronger over time because it’s being replicated based on its ‘future potential.’ Good luck!”
Hecar-Ur finally broke down when the clone began chanting a spell more powerful than the original. He raised his staff high, and a rare weariness appeared in his starry eyes.
"Stop! I give up!"
Even legendary wizards can't withstand such unreasonable, all-around warriors. Although most legendary wizards are all-around warriors.
But Ian's hexagon is clearly larger and more perfect, and he is a true legend in every field.
Alchemy, potions, and magic—it's not just a matter of one plus one plus one equals three. It's truly remarkable that this ancient Egyptian legend has lasted so long.
"alright."
This time, Anubis did not force the legend to continue the trial, so he struck the ground with his scepter at the opportune moment, and the clone turned into blue smoke and returned to the bronze pot. The entire arena was silent; even the virtual audience forgot to cheer.
"Second test, passed." Death's voice carried a hint of helplessness as he looked at Ian, who possessed all sorts of bizarre abilities.
"One last test: challenge my will."
His voice was serious.
Ian, however, looked toward the ancient god.
"No, I want to challenge you directly."
He issued his duel challenge—the previous characters hadn't made Ian take it too seriously, but now Ian wanted to create the next new legend.
To challenge the gods with a mortal body.
