Chapter 665 The Long-Awaited Movement
Chapter 665 The Long-Awaited Movement
It's terribly cold in Jiecheng today—it snowed again a few days ago, and today is the time when the snow is melting. Last night, a cold wind blew all night in the old town, and the temperature dropped to minus twenty degrees Celsius. The strong wind and the drop in temperature meant that when Yu Sheng went out earlier today, he didn't see many pedestrians on the street.
But it's still warm at home—although the reason is unclear, there's underfloor heating at No. 66 Wutong Road…
Just like the water and electricity in his home, Yu Sheng still doesn't understand where the heating in this big house comes from.
However, he stopped worrying about this issue a long time ago.
A phantom door appeared out of thin air in the living room. Yu Sheng carried steaming hot roasted sweet potatoes home from the valley. He put the food on the coffee table, still thinking about the Hermitage and the Angelic Catalyst, and casually called out, "Hu Li, I brought you something delicious!"
In an instant, he saw a large, fluffy tail emerge from behind the sofa. The tail swayed and groped around the sofa armrests, finding nothing. Then, two pointed ears stood up from behind the sofa. The fox girl peeked out, her eyes half-closed, staring at the roasted sweet potato on the coffee table. She reached out her hand, her voice soft and lazy: "My benefactor, I can't reach it~~"
"You're so lazy..."
Yu Sheng was both amused and exasperated. He carried a sweet potato around to the back of the sofa to feed the fox. As soon as the fox saw Yu Sheng coming, it simply lay down on the ground, its big tails forming a cozy nest around it.
“Have you been lying on the ground more and more lately?” Yu Sheng asked with a slightly ambiguous expression, “especially here.”
“The floor here is warm,” Hu Li yawned widely, slowly peeling a roasted sweet potato. He looked like he wasn’t hungry at all but could still have endless snacks. “Underfloor heating is a good thing.”
“How come I remember you weren’t afraid of the cold?” Yu Sheng simply sat down next to Hu Li on the ground, grabbed a big tail and covered it on his lap, rubbing it slowly. “You’d run outside as soon as it snowed. Last time after it snowed, I took you for a walk, and you made snowballs all the way, eating two out of every three you made…”
"Snow is great, and underfloor heating is great too," Hu Li said happily, her eyes squinting as she ate. "It's snowing heavily outside, so we can go out and play. When we're tired, we can come back and rest on the underfloor heating. Plus, there's delicious food. Life is so good..."
As she spoke, she rolled over, resting her head on Yu Sheng's leg and rubbing it against him twice. A tiny spark of static electricity danced on the tip of her ear, making a soft crackling sound.
"The only downside is that the underfloor heating is too dry, and there's always static electricity." The fox spirit girl twitched her ears, and the downy hair on the back of her ears stood up slightly.
Yu Sheng laughed. He imagined the scene the other person had described, and the tension he had been feeling lately, caused by his mind being filled with all sorts of nonsense like cultists, angels, and warlords, couldn't help but relax.
Hu Li is like this – she's always in a state of being content with what she has, without any high aspirations or complicated thoughts. She's always surrounded by a warm and slightly lazy atmosphere, which is completely different from the noisy Eileen.
Of course, Hu Li is a completely different person when she's fighting. Sometimes Yu Sheng herself finds it hard to reconcile her pile of fox carrot weapons with her usual sleepy demeanor after a full meal—but then again, none of the people in the hostel seem to have a normal demeanor...
Yu Sheng was lost in thought, and then he told Hu Li about what he had discussed with Luo in the valley, mentioning that it was all thanks to Eileen's reminder.
Hu Li licked his fingers, then groggily opened his eyes: "Foolish yet wise, oh..."
Yu Sheng reminded him from the side, "That phrase is 'great wisdom appears as foolishness'."
“It would be pretty much the same for her,” Hu Li yawned. “Anyway, I don’t think she probably has that many thoughts at all—while you guys were talking about these things in the valley, she was scrolling through short videos and laughing so hard she fell off the coffee table twice. How could she possibly have the extra brainpower to think about those things?”
Yu Sheng: "..."
Is that how it is?
Just as Yu Sheng was also infected by Hu Li's sleepy atmosphere after eating, and began to drift off into his own thoughts surrounded by a bunch of warm fox tails, a loud bang suddenly came from the direction of the second floor.
The timid fox perked up its ears with a "ding" and instantly woke up like a vigilant wild beast, looking up in the direction from which the sound came.
Yu Sheng reacted a little slower than the fox girl, but he still quickly determined the source of the sound.
He met Hu Li's golden-red eyes.
"A room with a mirror!"
The two jumped up and rushed upstairs. As soon as they reached the top, they saw the blonde Eileen running out of the master bedroom. The little doll wasn't even wearing shoes. Seeing Yu Sheng, she ran over: "Yu Sheng! There was a really loud noise from that room at the end! I was playing a game and thought I'd blown up your computer..."
Yu Sheng casually picked up the blonde Eileen and put her on his shoulder. As he walked quickly toward the end of the corridor, he said rapidly, "It sounds like something hit the wall... Eileen, call the other bodies over here and keep watch outside that door. Let's go into the room and take a look."
Several black-haired, red-eyed Eileens quickly ran out from the attic, master bedroom, basement, and other places, and gathered in the second-floor corridor. Yu Sheng, carrying the blonde body of the little doll, led Hu Li to the door at the end of the corridor.
He placed his hand on the doorknob, but did not push it open immediately. Instead, he carefully sensed the situation on the other side of the door.
Everything seemed normal; nothing had changed inside No. 66 Wutong Road, and there was no suspicious activity emanating from the other side of the door. However, a cold draft was blowing out from under the door, making Yu Sheng slightly wary.
He then carefully turned the doorknob and pushed open the door—the scene inside the room came into view for the three of them.
Tiny snowflakes drifted down in the room, swirling and dancing in the air. It was as if the snow had passed through the roof and walls and entered the room directly. When Yu Sheng pushed open the door, he could see snowflakes falling directly from the ceiling. When they entered, there was already a thin layer of snow on the floor.
The ground heating seemed unable to melt the snow, as if they existed in another parallel world, yet the falling snow brought a chill that undeniably filled the house, creating a particularly contradictory and eerie feeling.
"Holy crap..." Eileen exclaimed softly, her bright blue eyes wide. "This room hasn't had any problems for quite a while... and now they want a huge one?"
Yu Sheng remained silent, only frowning as his gaze slowly swept over his surroundings.
The ground was covered with a thin layer of snow, while the snow in the corners was particularly thick. Some snowflakes covered the wall opposite the window, leaving a mottled outline. It seemed that this "internal snowfall" had been going on for quite some time before the loud noise, but Yu Sheng was certain that everything in the room was normal until he pushed open the door.
...But "abnormal" seems to be the underlying theme of this eerie room?
Apart from the visible snow, there were no other unusual items in the room—no metal parts of unknown origin, and no fragments of ominous banners.
Yu Sheng carefully walked to the center of the room, his feet crunching slightly on the snow. For a moment, he even had a fleeting illusion that he might step directly into another world through this snow.
He glanced back and saw that Hu Li was releasing clusters of foxfire. The eerie blue flames slowly drifted to the roof, but the snowflakes that fell through the roof seemed to completely ignore these scorching demonic flames. They passed straight through the flames without any sign of melting or evaporating.
The mirror hung quietly on the wall opposite the door, and in the mirror... it was pitch black.
Yu Sheng slowly walked to the mirror and saw his reflection in it, which appeared extremely blurry.
His brows furrowed tightly.
Since the end of the Jieqiao incident, this room has remained unusually quiet. Over time, Yu Sheng had even forgotten about the mirror—why has it suddenly become active again at this moment?
After hesitating for a moment, Yu Sheng cautiously raised his hand and reached towards the dark mirror.
Hu Li's voice immediately came from the side: "My benefactor, be careful."
Eileen chimed in, "Let's make this clear first, if you're not feeling well, I'll bring you back to your senses immediately."
Yu Sheng didn't speak, but simply nodded slightly, his fingers already touching the cold mirror surface.
What will I see through this mirror this time?
Is it a distant, snow-covered otherworld? A lost world, like the Temple of Omens, floating in the cracks of time and space? An extraterrestrial void surrounded by angels? Or perhaps the memory of a dark angel, the ruins left behind by some otherworldly god?
A sense of tension swirled in my heart, but apart from the icy touch on my fingertips, the mirror in front of me remained unchanged.
Yu Sheng frowned, hesitated, then withdrew his hand and leaned closer to the mirror to examine it carefully.
The pitch-black mirror was like it was overflowing with black ink, with no extra colors or outlines visible. The darkness couldn't even reflect anything else in the room; only his own blurry shadow floated in the black mirror, making it look particularly eerie.
Yu Sheng turned his head and glanced at the little doll sitting on his shoulder.
Eileen's figure was not reflected in the mirror.
Hu Li also came over—her figure was also not reflected in the mirror.
"We can't see our reflections?" Hu Li frowned, noticing the anomaly in the mirror as well.
“…Something’s not right,” Yu Sheng muttered, then placed his fingers on the mirror and slowly felt around. “Although this thing has always been a bit strange, this time it seems to be different from the previous times.”
His movements suddenly stopped.
The fox immediately perked up its ears: "My benefactor, what's wrong?"
“There’s a crack here,” Yu Sheng’s tone became extremely serious. He stared intently at the mirror and finally spotted the almost invisible crack that ran along the entire surface of the mirror. “The mirror is broken…”
