Chapter 14 George is finished

As daybreak approached, the chimneys, which had been quiet for the night, began to puff out smoke again, one of the chimneys' smoke was thicker than the others.

In front of the fireplace, Hawke burned all the clothes that the two had taken off into ashes.

"Are you sure you've cleaned everything up?" Brand's voice from the bedroom sounded a little strange: "No evidence left?"

Hawke turned over the clothes to make sure they burned thoroughly. "I've cleaned them up carefully. Even if it's ultimately confirmed to be man-made, it won't be traced back to us."

Brand put on his coat and came out of the bedroom.

Hawke turned around and almost threw away the fire stick. He pointed at the corner of his mouth and asked, "What did you do?"

Brand touched the wound on the corner of his mouth and frowned in pain while speaking: "It's easy to let things slip when you talk too much. I don't want to go to jail, so I scratched it with a thumbtack a few times. It hurts when I speak, reminding me not to say anything nonsense."

Hawke suddenly felt that he had ruined the person.

The ashes were thrown into the public trash can, and the two went out to the hotel and talked with Catherine and Eric for a while. Catherine would then rush to the airport to wait for Castle Rock Pictures and Robert Reiner to arrive.

Hawke and Brand came to the opposite side of the Crystal Cinema and found a fast food restaurant with a glass curtain wall. They chose the side close to the glass wall and ate while waiting for the cinema to open.

Brand just asked for a glass of milk with a straw.

During this time, Hawke called Larson and the four deputy captains separately, and asked Brand to call Lewis and Damian and ask them to come over for breakfast.

Ten minutes later, the two men arrived.

The four of them had not yet finished their breakfast when the owner of the Crystal Cinema came over to open the door.

Thinking of being called a piece of shit last night, Brand couldn't help but mutter, "This damn bastard..."

Before he could finish his words, the wound at the corner of his mouth started to hurt, so he quickly shut up.

Across the street, the cinema owner opened the door and found that there was a power outage. He calmly went to the distribution room, and after a while of fiddling around, there was still no power.

He couldn't find the problem, so he called for repair.

The boss went to the tool room at the back and tried to start the generator that had not been used for more than a year, but the generator didn't work at all.

“This is troublesome.” He muttered, and after checking the generator, it still couldn’t start. He couldn’t help but kick it: “The things sold by Indians are really unreliable. They haven’t been used for more than a year!”

If there is no electricity today and the cinema cannot show the film, those crews will definitely make trouble and all the money they paid for booking the theater will be lost.

The first movie to be screened in the morning was "Lemon Street", and the boss quickly found the director's phone number.

George was having breakfast when he heard that there was a power outage in the cinema. He was immediately shocked and dropped his tableware and rushed over.

He was more anxious than his boss, so he walked into the theater and asked loudly, "Why is there a power outage? When will the power come back on?"

The boss spread his hands and said, "I don't know. I checked it and it didn't work. I'll wait for the power maintenance personnel to come."

George roared, "Where's the maintenance personnel? Are they here?"

"When I called, they were having breakfast." The boss was helpless: "After breakfast, you have to sign in at the company, then have a morning meeting, and then you can come over."

With a bang, George punched the counter: "Damn it! Damn it!"

He turned to look at the clock and consoled himself: "There's still time."

The boss didn't want to breach the contract, so he kept making phone calls, urging people to come quickly. He also wanted to borrow a generator, but he couldn't find one for a while.

George walked out of the theater and paced up and down the steps while talking on the phone.

He spent a lot of money to find an agent to contact Castle Rock Pictures, but when they came here he couldn't show his film. He would be blacklisted by Hollywood buyers.

In the restaurant across the street, Hawke and his friends finished their breakfast.

Lewis looked at the Crystal Cinema through the glass wall and said, "You've treated us to dinner twice, so it's only right that we help out."

Young people like to talk about brotherhood. Damian promised: "Keep an eye on them and don't mess around. This is to protect the safety of Park City."

Hawke said softly: "Besides this, there is another small matter, which may be a little risky."

He kicked Brand.

Brand took out the prepared cash and handed it to the two men, then pointed to his mouth which was inconvenient to speak, without saying a word.

Hawke said: "I can't let you take risks without gaining anything."

Lewis and Damian looked at each other, put away the money, and said casually: "A little risk, it's nothing."

Hawke pointed at George Hansen who was on the phone at the door and said, "By the way, keep an eye on the man with gold-rimmed glasses. Wait for my call. Find a suitable opportunity and tell him something..."

"It's too easy." Damian felt that the money was too easy to make.

Hawke said, "I'll leave this to you."

After the two men left, he called Brand and went to Alpine Pizza together.

Because of the wound at the corner of his mouth, Brand spoke unusually little today.

Hawke came to the pizza shop, and people from the troupe came one after another, including Larson and four deputy directors.

The bearded man came over and patted Hawke on the shoulder: "Hey man, you still owe me a cup of black coffee!"

"I'll get it for you." Hawke asked Bill for a glass and gave it to the bearded man.

The man said cheerfully: "You are a good person."

There was a girl about ten years old nearby who asked Hawke, "Can I go to the movies and get ten dollars too?"

"Of course!" Hawke reminded, "But don't talk nonsense."

The girl nodded repeatedly: "Yes, yes, yes." She threw herself on her sister: "I have ten dollars of pocket money this week!" More and more people gathered, and the store was a bit chaotic. Hawke saw that the time was almost up, so he asked Larson and the others to take people over separately.
When we arrived at the Great Salt Lake Cinema, Eric was waiting at the door. Seeing the audience coming in one after another, he felt relieved.

He found Hawke and asked, "Have you finished rehearsal?"

Hawke responded: "Don't worry, there will be no problem. Everyone will watch the movie attentively and no one will leave in the middle of the movie."

Eric felt something was wrong: "Didn't you say that the audience would have appropriate emotional expressions?"

Hawke asked in return: "Isn't it the best way to express your emotions to immerse yourself in the movie and concentrate on watching it?"

Of course he had other plans: "The highlight will be after the movie."

Eric has already boarded Hawke's ship and can only follow his arrangements.

Hawke entered the theater and found that the audience was sitting in a relatively concentrated area. He quickly waved to Larson and the deputy group leaders and told them, "Leave the first two rows and the last two rows empty, and spread out the other seats. We are not going to watch the movie in a group!"

Larson, who has been watching and learning, said, “That makes sense.”

Hawke added, "You guys should be dispersed in different areas and urge them to keep up the form. The key point is that the film is over and the duration must last until I sit down. If there is a scoring session, don't give full marks to all of them. Three or four stars will be enough."

Many people were bored while waiting and were drinking coffee.

Hawke found the cinema owner Mason and gave him a few more instructions.

Eric ran in from outside and said to Hawke, "The plane has landed."

Hawke took out his cell phone and called Lewis: "Find an opportunity to start."

Eric was curious: "What is it?"

Hawke did not answer, but asked: "I remember you have a DV, can you lend it to me?"

"Sure." Eric immediately asked his employee to get it.

When it was brought to him, Hawke discovered that it was a semi-new handheld camera, not for home use, but a professional version.

Eric briefly taught Hawke.

Hawke then said to the theater owner, "Mason, provide a few temporary security agreements. I'll find a few people here to sign and maintain order in the movie until the end of the screening. It's free."

Eric said, "Just listen to him."

The sponsor increased the money today, and Mason agreed after a little consideration.

A vehicle with the words "electrical maintenance" sprayed on it stopped in front of the Crystal Cinema, and two maintenance personnel got out of the vehicle to inspect the back.

George breathed a sigh of relief. The agent just called him and told him that the plane had landed.

"The situation is very complicated. We need to do further inspections." The maintenance personnel said directly: "The fault cannot be eliminated in a short time."

The boss asked, “How long will it take?”

The maintenance worker said, "It will be the afternoon at the earliest, maybe tomorrow."

George was furious: "What? In the afternoon? How did you ever get work done? It must be fixed within half an hour..."

The maintenance worker didn't buy it and said, "You fix it."

"Please hurry up." George suppressed his temper and looked at the theater owner: "Where's the generator?"

The boss was also helpless: "The generator came from a company run by an Indian. I called the repair hotline, but they said there were too many machines waiting to be repaired, so I would have to wait until next week."

He was very particular: “If your film cannot be shown on time, I will refund all your money.”

"Is this a question of refunding the money? Fuck! Fuck!" George felt that the future was bleak. Everything was fine last night, how come things suddenly turned out like this?

He wanted to say something, but when he saw the boss holding an electric baton, he quickly shut up.

The boss added: "I will transfer the money to you."

George was in a trance for a while, and he didn't know how he got back to the main entrance of the cinema. He was awakened by the ringing of his cell phone. It was the agent calling.

Just as he was about to answer, a young man rushed over and said, "Anal fissure, laryngeal explosion, this is what you deserve!"

With a loud crash, George's cell phone fell to the spot where the young man had just stood, breaking into pieces.

Lewis jumped down the stairs and generously gave George two middle fingers.

"Eric Eason, we're not done yet!"

George rushed down the steps, got into a black car on the side of the road, and drove towards the Great Salt Lake Theater.

This side is finished, it doesn't matter.
