The Wolf of Los Angeles.

Chapter 300: Fox's Turbulence

Alsa Healthcare Nursing Home, Orange County.

In the suite with a living room and a nursing room, Hawke sat on the couch and watched the news on TV with Megan Taylor.

The 7 o'clock news is reporting that Manninger and Jamie are plotting to control Britney.

Megan leaned on Hawke's shoulder, with her feet raised high on the coffee table, holding a notebook in both hands, browsing the news online.

The time is too short, and even on Twitter, which has the fastest response, there is no relevant news yet.

Hawke's body rang, and he pulled his arm out to answer the phone: "It's me."

The person on the other end said quickly: "Manninger was summoned by the LAPD."

"Got it. Keep an eye on them." Hawke hung up the phone and said to Megan, "Are your people ready?"

Megan turned her head, stretched her neck, kissed Hawke gently, and said, "Spreading rumors quietly is the basic skill of media practitioners. I have been prepared for it."

Hawke asked, "What about Manninger?"

Megan responded: "Let me try it first."

She said, in essence: "From 1998 to 2000, Manninger was the treasurer of Channel 11. I was a reporter at the time and Tina Russell was already a host."

Hawke understood immediately: "Tina has financial problems?"

Megan said it another way: "This is my guess, but I have no evidence. Fox hosts and producers, like me, are a minority who don't tamper with the budget accounts."'

Hawke said: "My plan is to drive him crazy. I have experience in this area."

"I can't just let you do everything and I sit back and enjoy the fruits of my labor." Megan was still refreshing her Twitter feed when she said, "Got it."

Under Britney's tweet, her terrifying crowd of fans left crazy comments.

"So you were framed by your own father!"

"Britney is not crazy, she was poisoned by her father!"

“We strongly demand that the judicial department severely punish Jamie Spears and Manninger Jenkinson!”

After the news on TV finished, Hawke received another call.

When he finished the call, he found that Megan had closed her notebook and knelt in front of the sofa.

Megan pulled out Hawke's belt and said, "You don't care about the little money I earn, and you don't care about fame. I can only repay you in my own way."

She tied her hair up, looked up at Hawke, and struck a standard pose: "Any position, any way, whatever you want."

Hawke deliberately said: "If you unlock it too quickly, it will lose its novelty."

Megan didn't listen to what he said and buried her head.

Hawke said: "The news has been released, Britney is famous enough, and hopefully Fox's stock price will fluctuate."

…………

The next morning, Britney, accompanied by Paris and Fiona, and the LAPD officer in charge of the case, went to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to have an assessment of the damage the drugs had done to the nerves and brain.

This woman had some problems with her brain to begin with, and Fiona lectured her for a long time last night.

When the injuries were being assessed, Britney suffered from various symptoms such as vomiting, dizziness, headaches and convulsions from time to time.

The LAPD is good at cheating and deceiving people. With the help and coordination of Julian, Britney's drug injury assessment report was extremely unfavorable to Jamie and Manninger to the maximum extent permitted by the rules.

That day, Britney, accompanied by her agent Larry Rudolph, held a small press conference.

At the press conference, facing the cameras of dozens of media outlets across the United States, Britney did not denounce Jamie. Instead, she recalled the father-daughter relationship when they were children and talked about every little thing about her and her father before she became famous.

Even in the 21st century, when women's rights are surging, it is still not a wise choice for a daughter to directly accuse her father.

Britney took aim at Manninger Jenkinson.

"My father was very good to me and had always taken care of me. What happened this time was instigated by bad people."

Facing the media cameras, Britney is still the innocent little sweetheart: "He was bewitched by Manninger Jenkinson. Without Manninger, his father would not be like this. The culprit is Manninger."

There were more questions from the media later, but Britney did not answer because she was crying so hard that she could not stand.

Finally, Paris ran over and helped Britney leave with Larry Rudolph.

This press conference further fueled media opinion, and Manninger inevitably became the center of attention.

The next day, at the Western Branch, Pierce, legal counsel for Fox 11, finally completed the bail procedures.

Manninger was allowed to leave the police station temporarily, but could not leave Los Angeles.

No one knew where the news leaked, but as soon as he came out of the police station, he was blocked by dozens of reporters and paparazzi.

Outside, there were Britney's fans cursing and accusing her.

Manninger works in the media and knows that at this time, even if public opinion says he has acquiesced, he should not speak carelessly.

Whether it was the reporters' questions or the abuse from Britney's fans, he pretended not to hear them.

Finally, he squeezed out of the crowd and got into the car driven by assistant Gibbs. Manninger closed the door and asked Pierce: "What's the case going on? Have you contacted Jamie Spears?"

Pierce said truthfully, "It's not good for you. Jamie is a wimp. He has reached a plea agreement with the LAPD. He said that he gave Britney drugs at your behest and that the drugs came from you. The police investigated your consumption records and found that you illegally purchased prescription drugs and controlled drugs through the dark web many times. Some of them were of the same type as those in Jamie's hands."

"The daughter is a fool, and the father is a waste!" Manning couldn't help but curse, but quickly controlled his emotions and asked, "Is it troublesome?"

Pierce said, "Britney has just undergone a forensic evaluation of drug damage. The results show that her brain and some nerves are damaged, causing intermittent convulsions, dizziness, headaches and other symptoms. The damage may be irreversible..." Manninger scolded Jamie again: "How many drugs did that bastard put in!"

Pierce pretended not to understand this and said, "I have a suggestion for you. Hire a professional lawyer as soon as possible to deal with this case."

He has some friendship with Manninger, and specifically reminded him: "Just today, Britney's management company, Sony Records, and several fan organizations called Fox TV to negotiate with the company about this matter."

Fox Network doesn't care about things like agencies and fan organizations.

But Sony Records is affiliated to Sony Entertainment, both are giants in the media industry. Britney is one of Sony Entertainment's cash cows, so Sony Entertainment will inevitably put pressure on them.

Manning knew very well that this matter was not as simple as it seemed.

The car soon arrived at the Fox Television Center and entered the underground parking lot.

Pierce got out of the car and went straight upstairs.

In the car, Gibbs reported to Manninger: "The 7 o'clock news was the first to report the news about this incident. It was hosted by Tina Russell herself and put on the front page. The chairman's office has asked about it."

Manninger was not surprised that Tina Russell started the war. He was more concerned about what happened next: "What did the chairman's office say?"

Gibbs said, "Let the Ministry of Justice bail you out first."

Hearing this, Manninger's heart sank. When Fox wanted to keep someone, he would spend all the resources.

But the guarantor also depends on the situation.

For example, in the incident with Megan Taylor and the Shorty Gang, the former was doing news on the Fox Network to boost ratings, and was retaliated by the Shorty Gang. Naturally, the Fox Network mobilized its resources to wipe out the Shorty Gang.

This time, Manninger's trouble was not caused by work, but by pure selfish desires.

He asked, “How does the news come from?”

Gibbs said, "I bought it from a freelance reporter. There's a rumor circulating in the channel that Tina has already commissioned several freelance reporters who often work with the 7 o'clock news to collect news about you."

Manninger closed his eyes and said, "I have been away from the front line for too long. I sit at a higher position than her, but I can't find such people."

Gibbs fell silent.

"Since Tina wants war, we will give her war!" Manning opened a secret compartment in the car and took out a storage disk.

Gibbs pretended to know nothing.

Manninger got out of the car, walked to the elevator, took the elevator upstairs, and soon arrived at the office floor of Channel 11.

Walking from the elevator to the office, everyone he met along the way looked at him strangely.

The media industry has sexual rules, and it is normal for male superiors to sexually exploit their female subordinates, or for female superiors to sexually exploit their male subordinates.

This is common among people in this industry.

But secretly giving someone drugs to drive them crazy and then raping them is despicable.

This sentiment has spread throughout the Fox Television Center and has long been observed by those who are interested.

Manninger turned a blind eye and came to the office.

He sat in his boss's chair, turned on his computer and checked Fox's stock price.

The first thing I saw was the news.

"Affected by the incident in which Fox 11 deputy director Manninger instigated the poisoning of Britney, Fox's stock price fell by 21%, and its market value evaporated by $ billion."

When Manninger saw this number, he knew he was doomed.

The stock price has fallen, and the drop is quite large. This is not just a problem for Roger Ailes; the parent company News Corporation will also interfere.

To Rupert Murdoch in New York, Menninger was just an insignificant figure.

Murdoch adopted a simple and effective decision-making approach in the face of stock price fluctuations caused by negative news.

He called Roger Ailes: "Calm the public opinion as soon as possible."

Roger Ailes understood what that meant.

Just as Manninger entered the office and was planning a counterattack, a call came from the chairman's office.

The slightly aged voice of the chairman's assistant sounded in the receiver: "Resign voluntarily. Keep a decent position for the company and yourself."

Manninger thought for a moment and said, "I will hand in my resignation tomorrow morning."

The chairman's office deliberately released the news to people who had originally stood on the same front with Manninger and were preparing to fight back against Tina Russell.

Men like Gibbs, for example, immediately backed off.

Manninger said nothing and left the Fox Center alone.

There were some things that he originally didn't want to do because they were the tacit rules of the TV network. Once the tacit understanding was broken, he would hurt himself before hurting others.

But Manninger no longer has such concerns.

The next morning, many people at Fox Television Network received an email on their OA software, stating that Tina Russell had committed financial fraud by purchasing news materials many times in 1999 and 2000 to embezzle company-related expenses, and the email also listed evidence.

People within Fox TV were not surprised by this because many people were doing this.

All hostile eyes were directed at Manninger, who sent the email.

But they can't do anything because Manninger has resigned. (End of this chapter)
