The Wolf of Los Angeles.
Chapter 392: Boneless and Warriors
At Los Angeles International Airport, Hawke walked out of the terminal and saw Erica at a glance.
Erica was wearing a fitted women's business suit. Her golden brown ponytail was tied behind her head and kept jumping as she walked quickly, as if she was in a very excited mood at the moment.
Hawke handed the bag in his hand to Edward, walked over to hug his girlfriend and kissed her passionately.
Erica separated from Hawke with a slightly hurried breath and said, "There are paparazzi nearby."
Hawke took her hand and walked towards the car: "They are all taking pictures of celebrities, no one cares about us."
The two men got into the car, and a small convoy of four cars drove out of the airport parking lot.
Hawke asked, "You're not in a hurry to get to work?"
Erica drove her Mercedes-Benz G: "I took a day off today."
"Let's go to Coast Building first." Hawke thought of Brian's bad words and felt uneasy: "The leader of the Curse God Cult said something again. I'm not too sure. Let's go make some arrangements."
Erica was curious: "What did Brian say again?"
It would be fine if others said it, but Hawke didn't dare to ignore the words of the Curse God Cult leader. He said: "He mentioned Russian spies and said that Russian spies might cause trouble."
Erica thought about what happened in the past and took it very seriously: "You need to be more careful and add another team of bodyguards."
She used public resources for her own personal use: "If you really encounter any problems, just call me directly. The Special Operations Bureau's air support team is under my command. I can mobilize them to take a helicopter to provide support as soon as possible."
Hawke nodded, "I will."
Silicon Beach is not far from Los Angeles International Airport, and the convoy soon arrived at the Coast Building.
Hawke took Erica directly to the 16th floor. After arriving at the office, he said to his assistant Lukat, "Notify operations director Caroline and security director Austin to come see me."
Erica didn't want to disturb Hawke's work, so she sat in the corner and read a magazine.
A few minutes later, Caroline entered the office first.
She adjusted her bangs a little, and a bright smile appeared on her palm-sized face. Her high heels clattered to the ground, and she walked quickly towards Hawke.
After walking a few steps, Caroline suddenly felt something was wrong and turned to look at the side of the office.
There sat a tall woman with a fit body. She might not be as pretty as Megan Taylor, but she had an indescribable aura.
Like a loaded shotgun.
Caroline was startled, and the smile on her face disappeared automatically, turning into a look as if she was handling business.
The sound of a door opening was heard again behind me. It was Austin.
Hawke asked Austin, "How's the security situation lately?"
"Everything is normal," Austin said. "The security personnel are dedicated and have strong execution capabilities."
Caroline added: "Campos and his team checked again and found no more eavesdropping or hidden camera equipment."
Hawke nodded slightly and said, "The company should be careful of Russian spies."
He is not worried that Russia is using spies to get rid of Twitter's middle and senior management. It is not cost-effective at all: "Notify all personnel above the supervisor level that if they take the initiative to report if they are contacted by Russian spies, the company will give them a generous reward."
Caroline said: "The legal team of the people who sold out the company has drawn up civil compensation clauses. Each person will be required to pay between 500 million and 800 million US dollars, depending on their position and responsibilities. This can be included in the notice."
The actual compensation is definitely not that much, but it shows Twitter's attitude of pursuing the matter to the end.
Hawke said, "There are rewards and punishments. Go and send out the internal notice."
Caroline glanced at Erica and quickly walked out of the office with a normal expression.
Austin followed.
Hawke squeezed in some work and said to Erica, "Some of these are more urgent. I'll take care of them first."
Erica smiled at him and said, "You are busy, I will look around by myself."
Hawke quickly scanned several documents.
Erica stood up and walked around the office, and found photos of herself and Hawke placed in several other conspicuous places on the desk.
In some of the photos, the two people were posed with guns.
Hawke read an internal notice from the Legal Department. Jennifer Huey, who was in charge of the espionage case, had sent a legal subpoena to the two helmsmen of BlackRock, Larry Fink and Robert Cazzato, asking them to come to Los Angeles for routine inquiries regarding BlackRock's involvement in the case.
The subpoena was issued by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles and the other party must come to answer it.
The notice was followed by an appendix stating that since the espionage case broke out, the stock price of BlackRock, which has been listed, has plummeted, and the decline has exceeded 20% so far.
Hawke thought of Goldman Sachs, found the letter sent by Goldman Sachs in the office software, and forwarded it to Caroline after giving instructions.
A few days ago, Goldman Sachs and Twitter successively issued statements, announcing that Goldman Sachs will soon participate in Twitter's latest round of financing.
Goldman Sachs' stock price rose by more than 10 percent that day.
Hawke called Campos again. Someone at Butterfly had been following BlackRock's movements. BlackRock's two direct leaders, Chairman and CEO Larry Fink, went to Washington, and Co-President Robert Capito came to Los Angeles.
The other party obviously wants to take a two-pronged approach to calm the incident.
Twitter and the print media controlled by James Murdoch have never stopped hyping up the BlackRock espionage case. As long as the case does not come to a conclusion, BlackRock's financing and investment will be affected.
Hawke wants to put Blackrock on the table.
Twitter’s family can’t eat it all, but as long as the other party appears on the table, it will naturally attract a large group of diners.
Hawke also learned about the civil lawsuit.
The procedures here are very cumbersome, and there are procedures such as evidence collection, hearings and mediation before the trial.
The longer the time goes, the more disadvantageous it will be for BlackRock.
It was almost time to get off work, so Hawke called Erica who was out visiting. The two met in the elevator on the 16th floor and left the Coast Building together.
Erica drove a Mercedes-Benz G to the Silver Lake community: "I originally wanted to take you to Beverly Hills to see your new estate."
Hawke began renovating and adjusting the Ackerman family estate that he bought from the federal government after the election results came out last year.
After Erica's job was transferred to the Special Operations Bureau, she had more spare time and was responsible for the renovation and decoration of the manor.
Hawke plans to settle there in the future, so he asked, "Is the renovation complete?"
Erica said, "It was completed at the beginning of the month, but you were busy with Blackrock and I didn't inform you."
Hawke wanted to go check it out: "It's still early, let's go to the north side of Sunset Boulevard."
The light ahead turned red. Erica stopped the car and turned to stare at Hawke: "Go tomorrow. I've prepared a set of housekeeper's clothes. The clothes are in Silver Lake."
Hawke immediately changed his mind: "Let's go to the Silver Lake community first."
The two returned to the specimen villa in the Silver Lake community. Erica changed into a specially fitted outfit, put on black-framed glasses, and put on high heels.
Hawke immediately put the new house and Blackrock aside for the time being and enjoyed this special night.
…………
A rooftop bar near the beach in Santa Monica.
Two men sat by the window drinking and looking out from time to time.
From this angle, the neon lights on the tallest Coast Building nearby are flashing, and the Twitter word and blue bird logo on the top floor are particularly eye-catching.
The bearded Russell withdrew his gaze, picked up the thick glass, and drank the whiskey in one gulp.
Opposite him, the middle-aged man Alexander just turned his empty wine glass but didn't drink much.
Russell picked up the bottle and was about to pour him a drink: "Have a drink."
Alexander placed his bear-like plush hand on the wine glass and said, "You know, I've given up drinking a long time ago."
Russell chuckled, "More than a decade ago, when we were the poorest, we had no alcohol to drink. We had to steal medical alcohol to drink. Some of our friends were addicted to alcohol and stole antifreeze from tanks. Now that alcohol can be freely consumed, you don't drink it."
Alexander took the bottle from his hand, put it on the table, and reminded him: "It's important to do business."
"What's so urgent that they need me?" Russell came to Los Angeles eight years ago as a Lithuanian and has been working like an ordinary person.
Outside of work, my biggest hobby is drinking.
Alexander said: "The BlackRock spy case has had a negative impact on the entire Western world. Moscow has tried its best to clarify, but the Western world is stubborn. They asked us to deal with a participant inside Twitter and let him take the initiative to expose the information to create a better public opinion environment for Moscow."
Russell couldn't understand: "I've read the reports. If the Americans, British and French don't believe it, then they don't have to. Why should we prove it to them? They framed us, but what about us? Prove our innocence? Get close to them? Use me just for such a rubbish?"
Alexander actually had similar feelings, but he was ordered to do so, saying, "Moscow wants to integrate into the Western democratic and civilized world, and there are many people at the top who hold similar ideas."
For example, the President's Chief of Staff.
"Freedom, democracy and civilization?" Russell said with a hint of ridicule, "Let's not talk about anything else. Just look at this city of angels, a model of freedom and democracy. What kind of bad things have happened in the past few years? Those bastards in the country are all weak at the knees. They only know how to cater to them. All they want is to kneel down to them so that they can integrate into the civilized world..."
Alexander's tone became serious: "Enough! We cannot interfere with the decision of the higher-ups!"
Russell came all the way from the pre-Su period: "The enemy has already penetrated our ranks!"
"Shut up!" Alexander said, "You are a warrior. We spend our time and lives not for a certain person or a certain group, but for our country!"
Hearing this, Russell finally shut up.
Those spineless people above need to prove to the West that we did not do these things.
What can he do?
Alexander whispered, "Your company has frequent business dealings with Twitter. You can get in touch with Twitter executives. Bribe a suitable target and develop him into our informant to expose Twitter's conspiracy!"
Russell gritted his teeth and said, "Although I look down on the soft bones above, I will complete the task!" (End of this chapter)
