The Wolf of Los Angeles.

Chapter 454: Anger Caused by the Illegitimate Child

Beverly Hills, Hilltop Estate.

Hawke, who was sleeping soundly, was suddenly awakened by the vibration and found that the sound came from under Erica's pillow.

Erica immediately took out her phone and received the message. After a while, she said to Hawke, "There was a shooting in West Los Angeles. The Detective Bureau and the Western Division have located the shooter. We need SWAT to attack."

Hawke asked, "Are you going to be there?"

Erica threw away her phone and lay down again: "No, this is an internal notice from the Special Operations Bureau. They didn't call me specifically. I don't need to be on the scene. I'm not on duty tonight."

Hawke looked at the time. It was already early in the morning. He said, "Go to bed, go to bed."

I was woken up by the vibration of my cell phone and lost all sleepiness for a moment.

Hawke asked, "West Los Angeles? There are fewer shootings there, right?"

"It happened outside the gated community," Erica said simply, "A company president was out for a night run and was shot from behind by a gunman."

After all, it was an internal text message notification, and she didn't know the details.

There are too many shootings in Los Angeles. Not only do they happen every day, there are at least several every week. Hawke asked a few questions and soon fell asleep.

Meanwhile, Culver City.

Outside a motel, a dozen police cars were seen with red and blue lights flashing, and an explosion-proof vehicle was parked at the door.

The ordinary LAPD set up a cordon to prevent the crazy reporters from crossing the line.

A SWAT tactical team rushed into the motel.

How could Mills, who had never received any tactical or shooting training, possibly be a match for LAPD's most elite violent tactics team? SWAT completed the mission with just one stun grenade.

The detectives who followed later handcuffed Mills, put a black hood on his head, and dragged him out of the hotel.

Flashbulbs went off and reporters set up their cameras to take pictures.

Mills could feel the abnormal light even through the black hood.

In fact, he noticed something unusual when the motel was evacuated, but did nothing.

Mills just wanted to seek justice and fairness and never thought of killing innocent people.

So, when SWAT broke into the room, the revolver was already on the floor.

Mills could guess that the light was a flashlight in the reporter's hand, and he wanted to shout out loud to reveal why he killed Thompson.

But his mouth was sealed and he couldn't utter a single word. He could only make muffled "hmm" sounds.

When violent organizations don’t want someone to speak out, there are many ways to do it.

Mills was put into a police car and taken to the detective station.

The person in charge at the scene was surrounded by reporters.

A reporter shouted, "Officer, who is the shooter and why did he shoot Mr. Thompson?"

The middle-aged police officer responded calmly: "This is also what we need to find out."

Another female reporter asked, "When will there be a briefing on the case?"

"Very soon." The middle-aged police officer responded with a few words and got into the car.

The convoy drove into the police detective station and Mills was taken to the interrogation room.

Two experienced detectives immediately began interrogation.

Mills prepared himself and admitted to shooting Art Thompson.

When daybreak came, the two detectives had basically figured out the causes and consequences of the case and handed over the interrogation results to their superiors.

The West Los Angeles area is a major taxpayer in Los Angeles and is home to many wealthy people who have donated to the LAPD.

The case was reported to Chief of Detective Bureau Johnson last night. He rushed to the police station in the early morning and has been waiting for the results of the interrogation.

Strictly speaking, the people in that area paid protection money, but the LAPD, the largest gang in Los Angeles, did a poor job of providing protection.

This principle is easy to explain no matter where you put it.

The head of the Robbery-Homicide Division sent the interrogation results, information on the victim and the suspected gunman to Johnson's office.

Johnson sat alone in his office and flipped through the pages. He soon came across something that he found sensitive: "The Los Angeles fire? No insurance compensation? Eunice Insurance Company?"

The current mayor, Brian, used the Los Angeles fire to defeat his predecessor Antonio in the recall election, and in his subsequent handling of the matter, he won praise from the public and gained a good support rate from Los Angeles citizens.

There was also the Eunice Insurance Company, which Johnson seemed to have heard of.

He thought about it carefully, picked up the phone and dialed his wife's number and asked, "You run a business company. I want to ask you something. Have you heard of Eunice Insurance Company?"

The wife smiled and said, "I heard that this insurance company has gone bankrupt. Why are you asking this?"

Johnny's tone became more serious: "It's related to a murder case."

His wife stopped laughing and said, "You should pay more attention. One of the major shareholders of Eunice Insurance is Schwarzenegger's wife Maria Shriver. It is said that this insurance company went bankrupt because it took on too many residential insurance policies in northern Los Angeles. Many of those houses were burned to ashes in the Los Angeles fire. Once the compensation is paid..." Johnny understood: "Don't spread it."

He hung up the phone, thought for a moment, dialed Carter Ferguson's number, and said, "Director, there was a shooting yesterday."

Carter Ferguson had just gotten up. After listening to Johnny's call, he thought for a moment and called Hawke and Brian one after another.

Although he did not directly enter politics, he still had a basic sense of smell.

Carter smelled something different, quickly ate breakfast, got in the car and asked the driver to rush to Parker Center.

Hawke was having breakfast at his Beverly Hills mansion when he got the call.

Erica listened to his retelling of the call and said, “These insurance companies, I don’t know what to say?”

Hawke finished his breakfast, picked up his personal belongings, and said, "I'm going to meet Brian first."

Erica nodded: "You go first."

Hawke went out and got into the Mercedes that Raul had driven over, and said, "Let's go to the Beverly Business Club."

Before the car left the manor, he called Brian and made an appointment to meet at the business club.

Hawke carefully read a lot of related news reports on the Internet while he had time on the road.

Los Angeles has just been quiet for a few days, and now it's about to become chaotic again.

…………

Governor's Mansion, Sacramento.

Maria Shriver had just gotten up and received a call from Los Angeles that Thompson, the president of Eunice Insurance Company, in which she had previously invested, had been shot dead on the street.

For some reason, she thought of her uncle Kennedy, who had a great imagination, and felt inexplicably flustered.

Shriver hurried downstairs to find her husband Schwarzenegger.

The latter had already changed into a suit and was ready to go to work.

An aide suddenly brought over a copy of the California Independent and said, "Governor, take a look at this news."

Schwarzenegger knew very well that if the news was not very important, his assistant would not rush to deliver it to him.

He took the newspaper and found a front-page headline with a picture of himself and his wife, linking him to the shooting.

The sales volume of The California Independent is not as good as that of The Los Angeles Times and The San Francisco Chronicle, but it is also one of the top ten regular newspapers in California.

Schwarzenegger took it very seriously and read it quickly.

"A shooting broke out in West Los Angeles. A 19-year-old white youth, Hart Mills, shot and killed Thompson, the president of the bankrupt Eunice Insurance Company, on the street..."

"This newspaper has received exclusive news that Hart Mills is a victim of the Los Angeles fire. The new house his parents bought with a mortgage was burned down in the fire. His father died in the chaos caused by the fire. His mother committed suicide because Eunice Insurance Company refused to pay compensation. Mills later dropped out of college and sued Eunice Insurance Company, but the company went bankrupt before the fire ended..."

"While investigating Eunice Insurance Company, this newspaper discovered that Ms. Shriver, the wife of Governor Schwarzenegger, was one of the two largest shareholders of the company."

Schwarzenegger didn't need to look carefully to know that the reports in the newspaper were definitely referring to him.

He dropped the newspaper and saw his wife Shriver coming down the stairs.

The assistant was very observant and left quickly.

Schwarzenegger asked directly: "What's going on with Yunis Insurance Company?"

"It was a normal business, but the company was insolvent and had to go bankrupt," Shriver said.

Schwarzenegger looked unhappy: "After the bankruptcy, nearly one-third of the funds flowed into your charity foundation. Don't tell me they are voluntary donations!"

He came from a relatively ordinary family, and felt it more deeply than Shriver: "You used such means, not giving others hope, not giving them a way out, those extremists will take up arms!"

Shriver didn't care about the person who fired the shot. He came to Schwarzenegger because he thought about what happened to his uncle and came to seek a sense of security.

Schwarzenegger added: "You should calm down the public opinion storm as soon as possible."

"Impossible." How could Shriver take out the money that went into her foundation? The lives of those poor people had nothing to do with her: "Why should I take out the money I earned?"

Schwarzenegger didn't understand and got a little angry. He raised his voice and said, "Are you crazy?"

"That's right, I'm crazy!" Shriver immediately got angry and shouted in a louder voice than Schwarzenegger: "Why am I doing this? Do you know? This is all because of you! I want to leave a way out for myself and save capital for my future!"

Schwarzenegger didn't want to argue with a woman who had lost her mind.

But Shriver did not let him go, and raised his voice: "Don't I know that you were having an affair with the babysitter Patty? Whose son is that illegitimate child named Joseph Bena? If I hadn't brought in political resources, you would have divorced me long ago!"

Schwarzenegger's tough guy face was a little embarrassed: "It's inexplicable!"

Shriver said coldly: "This money is a legal donation received by the charity foundation. The money will not be returned and it is impossible to return it. As for reputation, I don't care. The moment you had an affair with the nanny and gave birth to an illegitimate child, my reputation was ruined!"

Schwarzenegger couldn't help it anymore, so he cursed in his native German, quickly walked out of the residential area, and came to the office area, where he called his staff together to discuss countermeasures.

He knew Shriver too well. She looked soft and weak, but she was actually tough. (End of this chapter)
