Chapter 88 Mexican Mule Gang
Chapter 88 Mexican Mule Gang
The shelter where Nicole works is located in the Hollywood area.
In recent years, the number of homeless people has increased dramatically in the traditional central areas of Hollywood, represented by the Walk of Fame.
Accordingly, rescue stations were opened.
According to what Edward told Hawke, Nicole and he had lived in a shelter before.
All the food, drink, defecation and urination were provided by the rescue station.
After crossing Highland Street, the business car stopped on a street east of the Avenue of Stars.
At the entrance of the shelter, there is the logo of the Ackerman Charitable Foundation, and many homeless people are queuing up.
Hawke didn't rush to get out of the car. He sat in the car and observed carefully. In addition to the cheap food such as hamburgers, pizza and bottled water distributed by the shelter, several medical vehicles were parked on the side of the shelter to help the homeless people get free physical examinations.
Edward stared at the medical vehicle: "It's been happening quite frequently recently..."
Hawke patted him and reminded him, "Don't talk too much."
Edward nodded: "I know."
Hawke opened the car door and got out, pointing to the entrance of the rescue station: "Nicole is over there."
Edward picked up the two boxes and walked towards the door.
Hawke followed behind, looking around curiously as he walked.
The free physical examination, blood draw and nutritious meals are quite tempting and there are many people lining up.
"Boss, I'm going to find Nicole." Edward pointed to the entrance of the rescue station:
Hawke stopped and said, "I'll wait for you here."
Edward carried the box to the door of the shelter.
Nicole seemed busy and asked him to wait a moment.
In Los Angeles in June, after the sun rose, it was a little hot. Hawke hid in the shade of the trees and continued to observe the free physical examination.
He noticed that some of the people in the queue had been kicked out, so he moved a little closer and listened for a while before he roughly understood what was going on.
These people had participated in free physical examinations organized by the Ackerman Charitable Foundation some time ago, and this time the examinations were aimed at newly arrived homeless people.
The people who have been examined are definitely useless, so maybe the newcomers are suitable? Hawke couldn't help but make some associations.
There were several reporters and photographers taking pictures nearby.
The Ackerman Charitable Foundation has always attached great importance to its own publicity.
Seeing many people taking pictures, Hawke simply took out his Nokia mobile phone and took pictures of the entrance of the rescue station and then the medical vehicle.
"Sir." A Mexican passed by and pointed to the ground: "You dropped something."
Hawke glanced and saw a card falling to the ground. Judging from the style, it was Megan Taylor's business card. He should have brought it out when he took out his phone.
"Thank you." Hawke picked up the card.
The Mexican didn't say anything else. His legs seemed to be a little unsteady as he limped towards the door of the relief station.
Hawke turned over the business card, which had Megan's lipstick marks and a line of words written in eyebrow pencil.
"12 o'clock at night, my house."
Hawke guessed that Megan might have secretly put it in her coat pocket this morning.
"Play some erotic games?" He put away the business card.
Edward was holding a box in each arm, which contained some things, and was walking back with difficulty.
Hawke went forward to help.
When the two men were about to meet, there was suddenly chaos behind Edward. The two black men pushed the Mexican hard, and the Mexican, who had just received the hamburger, kept backing away.
Hawke quickened his pace, passed Edward, and blocked the Mexican who was rushing towards him from behind.
The Mexican's legs were not very agile and he almost fell down.
Hawke held him from behind and looked across: "Be careful."
Several volunteers wearing vests rushed over, separated the two sides, and warned: "If you continue like this, we will have to cancel today's meal."
The two black men didn't want to become public enemies, so they turned around and left.
When the Mexican saw it was Hawke, he quickly said, "Thank you."
Hawke said, "It's okay."
The Mexican bent down, picked up the hamburger that had fallen on the ground, and limped into the intersection on the left.
Hawke took a box from Edward and asked, "Anything else?"
Edward said, "There are a few more things. It's inconvenient because there are too many people in the front. Nicole will have someone take it to the back door, and we'll drive to the back door."
The two men came over, put the box in the car, drove left, and went to the back of the relief station.
There is a parking lot next to the back door. After parking the car, Edward went to the back door alone to wait, while Hawke sat in the car and enjoyed the air conditioning.
A Dodge pickup truck drove up next to us, one parking space away.
The car was the same model Hawke had driven in Provo, and he couldn't help but take a few more glances.
The old man in the driving seat of the Dodge turned off the engine, pulled out the key, put it behind the sun visor, got out of the car, made a phone call, and left quickly.
Hawke was wondering if the car would be stolen when a bald Mexican man walked over, opened the door, got in, and took out the key to start the engine.
Probably seeing that there were people in the car over here, the bald man raised his left hand and raised his middle finger towards this side.
Hawke gave him a middle finger without any hesitation.
The bald man gave him a vicious look, reversed the car and turned away. Hawke looked in the direction where the old man had gone, but he didn't see the old man, but he saw the limping Mexican walking towards him quickly.
The Mexican held the car with his right hand and said to Hawke, "Don't worry about these things."
Hawke lowered the car window, glanced at the other person's right hand very quickly, and asked, "Hey, man, what's up?"
The Mexican said, "That's the Mexican mule gang transporting goods. Just pretend you didn't see it. They are very brutal. Don't bother with anything."
Hawke could tell that this was well-intentioned, and said, "Thank you, I won't ask for trouble."
The Mexican withdrew his hand and tried to walk back.
Hawke called him: "What's your name, man?"
The Mexican stopped and said, "My name is Campos."
Edward came over from the back door of the rescue station pulling a flatbed truck and said, "That's a good name. I remember there was a butterfly named Campos."
The Mexican forced a smile.
Hawke got two bottles of water from the car and handed them to him: "New to Los Angeles?"
Campos took the water and said nothing.
Hawke didn't ask any more questions: "Thanks."
Carrying two bottles of water, Campos walked toward a corner of the parking lot where a few other Mexicans were sitting on torn cardboard in the shade.
Edward put his things away, got into the driver's seat and drove the car. He asked curiously, "Boss, why are you interested in that Mexican?"
Hawke said: "He is not an ordinary person. There are traces of long-term gun use on the base of his right hand and on his index finger."
Edward was surprised: "Gangsters?"
"I don't know either." Hawke thought for a moment and said, "Looking at the current situation, this person may have come to Los Angeles through a secret route. He probably doesn't have a legal identity. Tell Da Chou and the others to observe... and take care of this person."
Edward said, "After I put the things down, I will go back to find Dachou."
Hawke asked, "Have you ever heard of the Mule Gang?"
"I've heard of it." Edward, a local native, knows more about the lower classes of society. "A gang of traffickers has emerged on the US-Mexico border in recent years. I've heard people in Compton talk about it. They are extremely ruthless and will shoot and kill people if they don't agree with them. It is said that they have robbed several shipping routes and opened up the Los Angeles market."
Hawke nodded: "I've heard that the Mexican traffickers are very powerful."
"Mexican traffickers are all a bunch of super desperadoes." Edward thought for a moment and said, "One of my buddies said that the largest trafficker organizations in Mexico are not gangs at all, but warlords."
He found a comparison: "If we really compare how ruthless they are, that shorty gang isn't even worthy of carrying shoes for the Mexican mules."
It was not easy for Hawke to find a good cannon fodder, so he reminded him, "If you meet one next time, stay away from it."
Edward said: "I definitely won't provoke them. It's too late to hide from them. These Mexican dealers are unreasonable. If they think you are a threat, they will chase and bite you like a mad dog."
The business car returned to East Hollywood. Edward had no place to live for the time being, so Hawke had to take him in until he found a new home.
Edward vowed, "Boss, you have to believe me. In half a month at most, I can deal with Deborah, move to Donny's mansion, and beat up Donny's son."
Hawke didn't believe anything else, but he believed in Edward's ability in this regard.
Edward packed up his things and treated Hawke to a big meal at noon.
In the afternoon, the two received a call from an informant that Tom Cruise and Spanish actress Penelope Cruz appeared at the Beverly Center.
Hawke and Edward drove over immediately.
But when I got near the shopping mall, I found that there were paparazzi everywhere, and all I saw were camera lenses.
Hawke lost interest and sent Edward to take pictures, then sat in the car to rest in preparation for the night's bombing.
Suddenly, he noticed Sarah Parker's figure appearing on the big screen of the shopping mall in front of the car.
That's an advertisement for cosmetics.
Hawke watched for a while and saw an advertisement for Lancome's Aurora Essence Skin Care Set.
Apparently, Sarah Parker got the endorsement for this series.
Hawke took out his cell phone and called Caroline.
No one answered the phone. After a while, Caroline called back: "I was in a meeting just now. Do you want to talk to me about something?"
Hawke said, "Miss Baa, you are not very particular about what you do."
Caroline retorted: "How? Bleat like a sheep."
"You want me to have no objection." Hawke got down to business: "Your client won the Lancome endorsement, and the suggestion came from me. Why don't you give me a commission?"
Caroline was not confused: "Hey, country bumpkin, if I remember correctly, your plan was bought by Sarah for $25!"
Hawke didn’t really want money, but he wanted to make sure that the matter was going well. He added: “If your clients still have business strategy planning needs, you can always come to me.”
"I understand." Caroline hung up the phone.
Before Hawke put down his phone, the ringing sounded again. It was Johnson calling.
He answered the call: "Are you going to practice shooting or work out with me?"
"That's not it." Johnson asked directly, "Hawke, you don't have any business to do now, right?"
Hawke replied seriously: "Not yet."
Johnson said, "Don't take other business for now. Remember what I mentioned last time at the shooting range? I passed the screening and the initial audition. I want to do my best to get the male lead. Can you help me?"
Hawke responded directly: "No problem."
