Chapter 126: The King of Tang conferred the title of Emperor Xuanzang on his younger brother, and Xuanzang left Chang'an

The vengeful spirit of the Dragon King of the Jing River came to claim his life every night, but Yuchi Gong and Qin Qiong were unable to guard the gate for Li Shimin every night.

This situation lasted for only a month. After all, Yuchi Gong and Qin Qiong were mortal beings and soon could not bear it anymore.

Yuchi Gong and Qin Qiong had been guarding the gate for Li Shimin for a month. Today, people from the two generals' families came to report that they were both seriously ill and bedridden.

After hearing this, Li Shimin immediately sent imperial doctors to treat the two generals, and rewarded Yuchi Gong and Qin Qiong generously.

At the same time, Li Shimin himself was also very worried. Although he slept well in the past month, it was not a good idea to be haunted by the wronged spirits all the time.

Besides, if he asked Yuchi Gong and Qin Qiong to guard the door for him, even if they could hold on, he would not be able to bear it, and it would not be convenient to summon concubines.

"My dear ministers, the wronged spirit of the Dragon King of the Jing River has repeatedly invaded the palace. What solutions do you have? How can you relieve my worries?" Li Shimin asked the important ministers in front of him.

At this time, Li Ji said, "Your Majesty, I heard that Master Xuanzang has recently come to Chang'an to preach. He is a great Buddhist monk and must have a way to exorcise ghosts. Why not summon him to see him?"

"Oh? Is it the great monk Chen Xuanzang?" Li Shimin asked.

Li Ji said: "Your Majesty, it is this person."

Li Shimin said: "In this case, then quickly summon Master Xuanzang to the palace for an audience."

At Li Shimin's command, the imperial edict and the imperial carriage immediately left the palace. Soon after, Master Xuanzang rode in the carriage into the palace. Li Shimin summoned Master Xuanzang to the Liangyi Hall.

Master Xuanzang entered the Liangyi Hall and after a grand audience, Li Shimin gave him a seat.

Xuanzang thanked him and took a seat. Afterwards Li Ji told Xuanzang about the Dragon King of the Jing River demanding his life.

Li Shimin also said: "If the master can relieve my worries, I will definitely reward him generously."

Xuanzang bowed and said, "Your Majesty is the ruler of all people and the emperor of mankind. It is an honor for me to help Your Majesty. How dare I ask for a reward?"

At this point, Xuanzang asked again, "Your Majesty said that the two generals Yuchi Jingde and Qin Shubao have been guarding the gate for the past month?"

"Yes." Li Shimin nodded and said, "It's a pity that the two of you are also ill now."

Xuanzang said, "Your Majesty, the two generals have been guarding the gate for a month. Their Yang energy has weakened. They will naturally get sick after being attacked by the evil spirit of the Jinghe Dragon King. As long as you rest at home and recover your Yang energy, you will be fine."

"I see." Li Shimin nodded, and then asked Xuanzang, "Master, how should we deal with the vengeful spirit of the Dragon King of the Jing River who is seeking our life?"

Xuanzang said, "Don't worry, Your Majesty. I have a solution. Your Majesty only needs to find two painters to paint the portraits of Generals Yuchi Jingde and Qin Shubao, and then I will ask the Vajra to consecrate and bless them. Then, stick the portraits of the two generals on the door, and the Dragon King's ghost will not offend again."

Li Ji said: "Isn't this the same as a door god?"

Xuanzang nodded and said, "That's right, but I just borrowed the two generals' Gangyang evil spirit, which is much more useful than ordinary door god paintings."

Li Shimin said: "Let's do it this way."

Soon after, the portraits of Yuchi Gong and Qin Shubao were pasted on the door of Li Shimin's bedroom, and even on the gates of various palaces in the entire imperial palace.

As expected, from then on, the wronged spirit of the Dragon King of Jinghe River could no longer enter the palace.

Li Shimin was overjoyed and rewarded Master Xuanzang handsomely a month later. He personally issued an edict to hold a Dharma assembly in Chang'an, invited Xuanzang to preach Buddhism in Chang'an, and ordered the construction of a temple for him.

Xuanzang was to preach Buddhism in Chang'an for six days, and on the seventh day he would go into the palace to preach Buddhism to the emperor, his relatives, and all civil and military officials.

As soon as the imperial edict was issued, Xuanzang immediately became the most popular monk in the Tang Dynasty.

But some were happy while others were sad. The wronged soul of the Dragon King of the Jing River was blocked outside the imperial palace and could not seek revenge on Li Shimin. He had no choice but to end up in a mass grave outside the city of Chang'an and cry day and night.

On the seventh day of Xuanzang's preaching of Buddhism in Chang'an City, a Taoist priest in green clothes came to the mass grave.

The Taoist was dressed in green, with his hair tied up in a hairpin, a tall hat and a wide belt, and his appearance was elegant and refined.

As soon as the Taoist appeared on the mass grave, all the eerie ghostly aura there was instantly swept away by a ray of divine light. When the Jinghe Dragon King was illuminated by the divine light, all the ghostly aura on his body instantly dissipated.

The ghost of the Jinghe Dragon King quickly hid himself, but the Taoist set his sights on where the Jinghe Dragon King was and said, "Come out, I'm here to find you."

The Dragon King of Jinghe River was stunned. He looked around and found that the little ghosts in the mass grave had disappeared long ago, and he was the only ghost left.

The Taoist said with a smile: "Jinghe Dragon King, do you want me to invite you out?"

The Jinghe Dragon King's face changed, but after a moment's hesitation, he still flew over and said, "Little Dragon pays homage to the Immortal. May I ask your name?"

The Taoist smiled and said, "I am the Spiritual Platform God, the Demon Subduing Immortal of the Human World."

The Dragon King of Jinghe was startled when he heard this, and he bowed quickly, saying, "It turns out that it is the Lord of Lingtai. Little dragon pays homage to the Lord of Lingtai."

Zhuang Yan nodded slightly and said, "Get up." The Jinghe Dragon King stood up tremblingly, and then asked Zhuang Yan, "My Lord, why are you here today?"

Zhuang Yan is not only the Lord of Lingtai, but also the Demon-Subduing Immortal of the Human World. As for the incident when he came to seek revenge on the King of Tang before, it is no exaggeration to say that Zhuang Yan beat him to death.

Zhuang Yan looked at the Dragon King of Jing River and said, "Although you have violated the laws of heaven and have been punished by heaven, I, the god, see that you have been the Dragon King of Jing River for many years, making clouds and rain, and benefiting the people, so I am here to show you a way forward."

The Dragon King of Jinghe River asked in confusion: "Why would the Lord God help me?"

Zhuang Yan said: "Don't ask too much, I won't harm you."

Hearing this, the Dragon King of Jinghe River thought about it and realized that it was right. He had already fallen into this situation, so what was there to be afraid of? So he bowed and said, "Please ask Lingtai Shenjun to guide me. I will be grateful to you."

Zhuang Yan said, "I will teach you a method. You can go to Qingshuang Ridge to practice. You only need to set up an altar in the mountain, worship the sky at dawn and the earth at dusk every day, keep pure and abstain from all desires. After 49 days, you will be able to complete your merits. Then I will send you to a good place, and your merit and status will be no lower than before."

The Jinghe Dragon King was overjoyed and immediately bowed and said, "My little dragon thanks you for your kindness, Lord God."

Zhuang Yan smiled and said, "Come forward and stretch out your right hand."

The Dragon King of Jinghe River stepped forward immediately and stretched out his right hand. Zhuang Yan raised his hand and lightly touched the right hand of the Dragon King of Jinghe River.

The next moment, the word "water" appeared in the palm of the Jinghe Dragon King's hand, and Zhuang Yan added a "water control" state to him.

"This is a method of controlling water. As long as there is water vapor within a thousand miles, you will be invincible." Zhuang Yan said; "It can ensure that you will be safe during your forty-nine days of practice."

Upon hearing this, the Dragon King of Jinghe River bowed his head and said, "Your Majesty, I will never forget your great kindness."

Zhuang Yan smiled slightly and said, "Remember, you can only practice on Qingshuang Ridge."

The Dragon King of Jinghe River bowed and said, "Yes, little dragon will remember it." After saying that, he raised his head, only to see that Zhuang Yan had disappeared.

At the same time, in the imperial palace of Chang'an City, auspicious light was everywhere, the air was filled with auspiciousness, and the Buddha's light was shining everywhere.

Emperor Taizong of Tang, Li Shimin, was overjoyed and bowed toward the sky. All the civil and military officials knelt on the ground and burned incense. All the monks, nuns, Taoists, laymen, scholars, workers and merchants in the temple bowed down and prayed.

Xuanzang was dressed in a brocade robe, holding a nine-ring staff in his hand, kneeling devoutly and chanting the Buddha's name.

And in the sky, a female Jurchen was standing on auspicious clouds, holding a pure bottle and willow branches in her hands, and on the left stood the traveler Hui'an, who was none other than the 'Greatly Compassionate and Merciful Guanyin Bodhisattva who saves the suffering'.

I saw the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara: she wore a golden leaf button on her head, with pearl tassels hanging down. She wore a light blue robe with a light color, light makeup, and a golden dragon and flying phoenix. On her chest hung a ring of incense facing the bright moon, dancing in the breeze, and gathering emerald jade. Around her waist was a brocade velvet skirt made of ice silk, woven with gold edges, and climbing on colorful clouds and rushing to the sea of jade. In her hand was a treasure bottle for bestowing grace and saving the world, and in the bottle was a weeping willow branch that sprinkled the blue sky, dispersed great evil, and swept away the residual fog.

The jade ring is embroidered with a button, and the golden lotus is deep under the feet. It is allowed to come in and out for three days, and it is Guanyin who saves the suffering.

Emperor Taizong of Tang was so happy that he forgot about his country. The civil and military officials he loved lost their courtesy.

After the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara revealed his true form, he flew away on a cloud. The people below called out "Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara" and bid farewell to him.

When the auspicious signs faded and the gods disappeared, Li Shimin stood up and asked the monks, "I just heard from Guanyin Bodhisattva that there are three great Buddhist scriptures in the Western Paradise. Who is willing to follow my orders and go to the Western Paradise to worship Buddha and seek the scriptures?"

All the monks present hesitated, only Master Xuanzang stepped forward and bowed, saying: "I am willing to seek the true scriptures for your majesty, and pray for the eternal stability of our king's kingdom."

Li Shimin was overjoyed, and stepped forward to help Xuanzang up, saying: "Master, if you can be so loyal and virtuous, and not be afraid of the long journey and the long journey, I am willing to become your brother."

Later, Li Shimin named Xuanzang "Imperial Brother". The two of them lit incense in front of the Buddha and swore an oath. Xuanzang said: "This time I will go, I will work hard and sacrifice my life to reach the Western Paradise. If I don't reach the Western Paradise and obtain the true scriptures, I will never return to my country even if I die, and will fall into hell forever."

A few days later, Li Shimin personally led civil and military officials to escort Xuanzang to the outskirts of Chang'an city.

Li Shimin offered a cup of wine with soil on it and said, "It's been a long time since I left, and the mountains are far away and the road is long. My brother, please give me this wine. I would rather love a pinch of soil in my hometown than ten thousand taels of gold in a foreign land."

Xuanzang took the wine and drank it all, then he bowed and said, "Your Majesty, I will be back in five years at most and three years at least."

After saying this, Xuanzang mounted his horse, bid farewell to the King of Tang, turned around and left with two followers. His figure gradually disappeared from the sight of Li Shimin and others.

It is said that Xuanzang and his entourage left Chang'an and walked for two or three days, travelling under the stars and the moon, before arriving at Qingshuang Ridge.

It was late at night, the moon was bright and the stars were sparse. There were gusts of cold wind in Qingshuang Ridge, and the trees were green.

Xuanzang was riding a horse and his two followers were walking with loads on their shoulders. Suddenly, their feet slipped and the three men and the horse fell into the pit in an instant.

Soon dozens of demons rushed forward, tied up Tang Seng and others, and after a while carried them into a cave.

At this moment, a loud shout came from inside the cave: "Bring them up."

Soon Tang Seng and his two companions were taken to the depths of the cave, where three demons were sitting: a tiger, an ox, and a bear. Looking at these three big demons, Tang Seng and his two companions were so scared that their faces turned pale and they trembled with fear.
