Chapter 133: Nanhai wants to preach, Zhuang Yan gives a ruler

"Greetings to the Lord of Lingtai and the Great Sage Equaling Heaven. The Bodhisattva ordered us to wait for you two here." The two men bowed and said.

Zhuang Yan asked, "Is the Bodhisattva in the nunnery?"

The monk Hui An smiled and said, "The Bodhisattva has been waiting in the nunnery for a long time. Lord Lingtai, Great Sage Equaling Heaven, please come in."

Afterwards, the two of them turned around and led the way. Zhuang Yan took Sun Wukong into the Purple Bamboo Forest Temple, and soon they arrived at the Seven Treasures Lotus Pond in the Purple Bamboo Forest.

The Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara was seen dressed in a moon-white gauze dress, with a dignified, graceful and beautiful appearance. She nodded and smiled slightly when she saw Zhuang Yan, but paused for a moment when she saw Sun Wukong.

She was very surprised because the golden hoop that was originally worn on Sun Wukong's head was missing. You know, that was the magic weapon bestowed by Buddha.

Suddenly, Guanyin looked at Zhuang Yan, with a hint of realization in her eyes, as if she knew the purpose of Zhuang Yan and Sun Wukong's visit.

Zhuang Yan walked forward with Sun Wukong, bowed first, then said with a smile: "Buddha, what you did was a little unkind."

Guanyin Bodhisattva's face was slightly grim, and he quickly waved his hand to conjure up a lotus throne, then smiled and said, "Lord Lingtai, please sit down and talk."

Zhuang Yan thanked him, then walked to the lotus throne and sat cross-legged.

Sun Wukong walked forward and bowed to Guanyin Bodhisattva, saying, "Bodhisattva, I pay my respects to you."

Guanyin Bodhisattva laughed and said, "Wukong, if you don't want to help Tang Monk to obtain the Buddhist scriptures, why are you here with me?"

When Sun Wukong heard this, he snorted and said with dissatisfaction, "Bodhisattva, since I escaped from under the Five Finger Mountain, I have been wholeheartedly helping Tang Monk to obtain the scriptures. But Tang Monk was ignorant of good and evil, would not listen to good words, could not distinguish between right and wrong, good and evil. I was annoyed by him, so I went to the East China Sea for a tour. After I came back, he got a golden hoop from somewhere and tricked me into wearing it on my head, but I couldn't take it off once I put it on. Whenever he chanted a spell, it gave me a splitting headache. Bodhisattva, do you know about this?"

Guanyin glanced at Zhuang Yan again, then smiled and said, "I know. The golden hoop was given to Tang Seng by me."

Hearing this, Sun Wukong immediately said, "Bodhisattva, you are said to be compassionate, so why are you so vicious to me? Do you want to use this golden hoop to restrain me?"

Guanyin Bodhisattva was also helpless and said, "Wukong, you have extraordinary abilities, but Tang Seng is just an ordinary man. I was afraid that he could not restrain you, so I gave him the golden hoop."

Sun Wukong said, "Since I promised to help him go to the West to obtain the scriptures, I will never break my promise. Bodhisattva, you clearly don't trust me."

Guanyin Bodhisattva said: "Wukong, to help Tang Seng obtain the scriptures, you must always be by his side to protect him, but you can't even stand his nagging, and you always go here and there, running around. How can I be at ease?"

At this point, Guanyin Bodhisattva asked again: "Now, where is Tang Monk? Where are you?"

Sun Wukong said, "Don't worry, Bodhisattva. I have already taken care of him when I came out."

When Sun Wukong came out, he used a sleepy bug on Tang Seng, and then drew a golden barrier around him, so that tigers, leopards, wolves, insects, demons and monsters could not get close to Tang Seng.

Guanyin Bodhisattva said: "But you have a stubborn character and are destined not to listen to Tang Monk's teachings. Without the golden hoop to restrain you, with your lawless nature, I'm afraid you won't be able to complete this journey to obtain the scriptures in ten thousand years."

At this point, Guanyin Bodhisattva asked Zhuang Yan, "Lord Lingtai, am I right?"

Zhuang Yan said, "Wukong is not someone who can swallow his anger or be ordered around by others, but he is my nephew, and the Bodhisattva saw him worship me as his uncle. You want to restrain him with the golden hoop, but you didn't even tell me. Isn't this a bit of disrespect for me?"

The Bodhisattva smiled and said, "I have no such intention, but I did act arbitrarily in this matter. I apologize to the Lord of the Spiritual Platform and ask for your forgiveness."

Zhuang Yan said, "Although the Bodhisattva has apologized, I have to ask for an explanation for this matter of the golden hoop. If I have been disrespectful, please forgive me."

Guanyin Bodhisattva nodded slightly and asked with a smile: "What does Lingtai Shenjun want to ask for?"

Zhuang Yan said: "From now on, Sun Wukong will wholeheartedly support Tang Monk in his quest for Buddhist scriptures, but the Buddhist sect must not impose any restrictions on him, including this golden hoop."

Guanyin Bodhisattva sighed and said, "Lord Lingtai, you know Wukong's temper. Tang Seng cannot control him."

"I do know this, but I have a solution." Zhuang Yan said with a smile.

Guanyin Bodhisattva said: "Oh? What solution do you have?"

Zhuang Yan said, "Please ask the Bodhisattva to follow me to see Tang Monk, and we will explain everything to him face to face."

Guanyin Bodhisattva said very straightforwardly: "Okay, this is just a small matter."

After that, Guanyin Bodhisattva stood up from the lotus seat and said to Hui'an Xingzhe and Pengzhu Longnv: "You two should guard the temple well."

The traveler Hui An and the dragon girl holding the pearl bowed in unison and said, "I obey your command."

Guanyin Bodhisattva rode on a nine-colored cloud and smiled at Zhuang Yan and Sun Wukong, saying, "Let's go."

Zhuang Yan and Sun Wukong boarded the nine-colored auspicious cloud, and then the Bodhisattva rode on the nine-colored auspicious cloud. In just one hour, they arrived at a small hill sixty miles west of the Five Finger Mountain.

Guanyin Bodhisattva and Zhuang Yan stood on the clouds and said to Sun Wukong, "Wukong, go and bring Tang Monk here."

Sun Wukong responded, then flew down and came to a hidden cave. He collected the sleepyhead and woke up Tang Seng.

"Master." Sun Wukong called out. Tang Seng woke up in a daze and looked at Sun Wukong and said, "Wukong, is the master asleep?"

Sun Wukong nodded and said, "Not only did he fall asleep, he slept soundly!"

"Oh." Tang Seng nodded and said, "It seems that Master has been traveling too much recently."

Sun Wukong said, "Master, the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara and the God of the Heavenly Palace have descended to the mortal world."

Tang Seng was surprised when he heard this and asked, "Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva has descended?" At this point, he quickly stood up and said, "Wukong, please wait a moment while I tidy up my robes so that we can meet the Bodhisattva."

Sun Wukong said: "Master, there is not only Guanyin Bodhisattva, but also Lingtai Shenjun."

"Lingtai God?" Tang Seng was stunned for a moment and asked, "Who is that god?"

Sun Wukong said: "He is a true god in heaven, with great powers. Even the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas respect him."

Hearing this, Tang Seng's expression became serious, and he immediately said, "I see, Wukong, please follow me to see him. Don't be rude or disrespectful."

"Yes." Sun Wukong said with a smile.

Soon Tang Seng and Sun Wukong walked out of the cave one after another. Looking up, they saw auspicious light in the sky. Guanyin Bodhisattva and a divine man were standing on the nine-colored clouds, one with a solemn appearance and the other with a majestic power.

Tang Seng immediately knelt on the ground, put his hands together and bowed, saying: "I am Xuanzang, I am here to pay my respects to the compassionate Guanyin Bodhisattva and the Lord of Lingtai." Sun Wukong also knelt down behind Tang Seng.

At that moment, Guanyin Bodhisattva said, "Tang Sanzang, I have taken back the golden hoop I gave you the other day. From now on, you will not need it to restrain Sun Wukong."

After hearing this, Tang Seng suddenly reacted. No wonder he always felt like something was missing. It turned out that the golden hoop on Sun Wukong's head was missing.

Tang Seng was immediately embarrassed, but he couldn't say those words in front of Sun Wukong, so he just asked: "The Bodhisattva took back the golden hoop, so I guess he has other plans?"

Guanyin Bodhisattva nodded and said, "That's right." Then he said to Zhuang Yan, "Lord Lingtai, you go ahead and tell me."

Zhuang Yan took the golden hoop out of his sleeve, returned it to Guanyin Bodhisattva in front of Tang Seng, and said, "Let Elder Tang know that Sun Wukong is my nephew, and I was the one who took the golden hoop off his head. But don't worry, I have warned Sun Wukong to protect you wholeheartedly on the journey to the West. But he has an impatient temper and often disobeys discipline, so I will give you something. If he disobeys, you can use it to teach him a lesson."

As he spoke, Zhuang Yan raised his hand, and a mysterious light flashed, and then a white jade ruler appeared in Zhuang Yan's hand.

Zhuang Yan raised his hand and threw the "white jade ruler" into the air, landing in front of Tang Monk.

Tang Seng quickly reached out to take it, and then heard Zhuang Yan say: "This is the 'white jade ruler', it is my token of trust. You hold this ruler. If Sun Wukong disobeys you or talks back to you rudely in the future, you can use this ruler to discipline him. If he still refuses to obey, then I will intervene."

At this point, Zhuang Yan turned to Sun Wukong and said, "Wukong, seeing this ruler is like seeing your uncle. I hope you can control your temper and avoid being punished less often. Your uncle will also feel relieved."

Sun Wukong immediately bowed his head and said, "I will follow your instructions, uncle. Please rest assured, I will not let you down."

"Okay." Zhuang Yan nodded, and then said to Tang Seng: "Elder Tang, I'll trouble you to take care of my nephew."

Tang Seng said respectfully: "Please rest assured, Lingtai Shenjun, if Wukong did not make any mistakes, I would not punish him without reason."

Zhuang Yan nodded slightly. At this time, Guanyin Bodhisattva said: "Tang Sanzang, the journey to the West to obtain the scriptures is full of hardships and difficulties. You must always maintain a Buddhist heart, be fair and selfless, and do everything yourself."

Tang Monk bowed and said, "Disciple Sanzang, I will obey the Bodhisattva's command."

Guanyin Bodhisattva nodded, then looked at Zhuang Yan, who finally said to Sun Wukong: "Wukong, protect your master well on his journey to the West to obtain the scriptures. No matter what difficulties you encounter in the future, remember that your uncle is here for you."

Sun Wukong said repeatedly: "Uncle, nephew will remember it."

"Yes." Zhuang Yan nodded, and then Guanyin Bodhisattva urged the nine-colored auspicious clouds to disappear into the sky with Zhuang Yan.

As Guanyin Bodhisattva and Zhuang Yan left, Sun Wukong immediately stood up and helped Tang Seng up.

At this time, Tang Seng also realized that he must have put the golden hoop on Sun Wukong. Sun Wukong was not convinced and went to his uncle Lingtai Shenjun to complain.

The Lingtai God had great powers. He directly took away the golden hoop that Guanyin Bodhisattva used to restrain Sun Wukong, and even found Guanyin Bodhisattva's door.

Thinking of this, Tang Seng couldn't help but feel a deep reverence for this Lingtai God. Guanyin Bodhisattva's status in Buddhism is not low. He has the title of "Teacher of Seven Buddhas" and his status is only second to Tathagata Buddha.

He looked at the white jade ruler in his hand, but he didn't know that Zhuang Yan had added a "designated" status to it, which meant that only Tang Seng could hold the ruler and no one else could take it away.

This item is not harmful at all. It is just a token representing Zhuang Yan to make Sun Wukong feel awe. Otherwise, without the golden hoop, Tang Seng would have no way to control Sun Wukong.

Understanding Lingtai God's love for Sun Wukong, Tang Seng thought about it and put the white jade ruler into his sleeve pocket, but found that the ruler was very light and did not feel heavy at all in the sleeve pocket.

At this time, Sun Wukong had already led the horse over and said to Tang Seng, "Master, please get on the horse."

Tang Seng smiled slightly, then walked forward and rode on the horse, then bowed his head and said to Sun Wukong: "Wukong, I spoke a little harshly a few days ago. I am sorry to you now."

Sun Wukong laughed and said, "Master, what are you talking about? It is only natural for a master to teach his disciples. It was me who disobeyed the discipline and made the master sad."

After saying this, the master and disciple smiled at each other. The knots in their hearts from the past were untied and disappeared like smoke. The two of them and their horse continued on their journey to the west to obtain the scriptures under the setting sun and breeze.
