I am a fairy in Journey to the West
Chapter 498 The Ridge-Bearing Demon
Tang Sanzang pushed open the door in front of him, put his hands together in a gesture of respect, and said, "This humble monk is a monk from the Great Tang Dynasty in the East. I am on my way to the Western Paradise to worship Buddha and seek scriptures. After entering your village, I became separated from my disciple, so I came here to inquire after him. Please forgive me for any inconvenience caused."
However, there was no response from inside the house; it remained completely silent.
Upon seeing this, Tang Sanzang said, "Excuse me," and then stepped inside.
Upon entering the house, the scenery changed drastically. The houses and buildings in front of him vanished in an instant, and what appeared before Tang Sanzang was a boat, a couple, and a boatman.
When Tang Sanzang saw this scene, he was about to step forward to ask questions when he saw the boatman walk behind the couple, his eyes flashing with a fierce light, and knock the husband into the water with a stick.
Tang Sanzang was shocked. He saw the boatman about to rape the woman and was about to step forward to stop him when the scene changed and the woman put an infant into the water, which then drifted away with the current.
Upon seeing this, Tang Sanzang's initially excited mood suddenly calmed down, and he seemed to understand something.
Soon, Jiang Liuer was rescued by a monk in a temple and became a monk. When he grew up, he avenged his father and became the most famous monk in the Tang Dynasty.
Upon seeing these scenes, Tang Sanzang remained calm and composed, simply shaking his head and smiling, and all the images vanished like smoke.
The next moment, the sky darkened, and heavy clouds gathered. All the demons, monsters, hardships, and dangers encountered along the way appeared before their eyes.
All sorts of great demons and monsters from all directions surged forth, stirring up wind and clouds, their malevolent aura overwhelming, as they rushed towards Tang Sanzang.
Tang Sanzang stood alone, wearing a cassock, his hands clasped together, his gaze calm yet firm.
He sat down cross-legged and chanted, "All that has passed is gone; all past events are illusions."
After saying this, he clasped his hands together and clapped them lightly. Instantly, a Buddha-light shone from his body, dispelling all demons, monsters, and evil spirits.
Everything disappeared from sight, and Tang Sanzang reappeared in the village, while the house whose door he had opened earlier still stood there.
Tang Sanzang stepped forward, trying to push the door open again, but this time it wouldn't budge.
Tang Sanzang pushed the door several times, but found that there seemed to be a wall behind it, and no matter how hard he pushed, it didn't budge.
"This place is very strange. I wonder what kind of demon's lair it is. It seems I misunderstood Bajie. I wonder how Wukong, Wubai, Bajie, and Wujing are doing?" Tang Sanzang muttered to himself, then turned around and led the Purple Dragon Horse on his way.
Tang Sanzang circled the village several more times, but still couldn't find any trace of Sun Wukong and the others, and he himself couldn't find the way out of the village either.
Meanwhile, the Five Directions Protectors, who had been protecting Tang Sanzang, discovered that Tang Sanzang and his disciples had disappeared after entering a village.
Moreover, there was nothing unusual about the village from the outside, but the strange thing was that there was no sign of Tang Sanzang and his companions in the village.
The Five Directions Protectors flew around the village once, but still did not see the Tang Monk and his disciples.
The Golden-Headed Jiedi said, "There's something strange about this village. Tang Sanzang and the others disappeared after entering. I'm afraid they've entered a demon's lair again."
Silver-headed Jiedi asked, "With the Great Sage Equal to Heaven here, this small village shouldn't be able to stop them."
Mahagate said, "We will just watch from outside."
So the Five Directions Protectors stood guard outside the village, but they stayed there for ten days.
Ten days passed, and the village below remained unchanged, but Tang Sanzang and his disciples did not emerge.
The Five Directions Protectors finally realized that there was a big problem. If it were an ordinary demon, the Great Sage Equaling Heaven wouldn't have been unable to defeat it after ten days. It must be a serious trouble.
Then the Golden-Headed Jiedi turned around and said, "Silver-Headed Jiedi, Para-Jiedi, Para-Sengjiedi and I will go in and take a look. Maha-Jiedi, you stay outside and keep watch. If we don't come out within three days, you must immediately report to Mount Ling."
Mahagateti nodded and said, "Alright."
So the four Golden-Headed Guardians flew down and entered the Wanhua Ridge village together.
Maha Jieti discovered that as the four Golden-Headed Jieti stepped into the village, their figures quickly disappeared without a trace, as if the village was completely isolated from the outside world, and what was being presented was just an illusion.
“Something’s not right,” Maha Jieti said, but he still stayed outside, deciding to wait three days before taking another look.
Meanwhile, the four Golden-Headed Guardians entered the small village. They had not gotten separated, but instead went into the village to look for Tang Sanzang and the others.
But after searching for a day or two, they found no trace of Tang Sanzang and his companions, not even a single person. This was very unusual, and it was almost certain that there was something wrong with the village.
“The path into the village is no longer visible; it seems this is indeed the lair of demons,” said the monk Pārajīva.
The silver-headed Jiedi said, "We have been here for a day or two, and we have not seen a single villager, let alone Tang Sanzang and his companions. This village must be a smokescreen."
Polojiedi said, "The doors of these houses around here have never been opened; they must be hiding places for those demons."
Upon hearing the words of the Golden-Headed Demon, the Golden-Headed Demon immediately took up his vajra and went to the front of a house on the left, knocking on the door.
However, there was no response from inside the house. Jin Tou Jie Di knocked on the door three times, but there was no reply from inside.
Without saying a word, the Golden-Headed Guardian kicked open the door and rushed in, wielding his Vajra Pestle.
The Silver-Headed Jiedi, Parajiedi, and Parasangjiedi followed closely behind, each wielding a weapon as they rushed into the room.
The four were then greatly alarmed, for indeed, a monster was hiding in the house. The monster was a dark-colored wild boar, two or three zhang tall and six or seven zhang long. Its bristles were like steel nails, its two tusks were like long halberds, its four thick legs were like pillars, and its two red eyes were like lanterns. As soon as the wild boar saw the four, it exhaled a breath of white air from its nostrils, kicked its way back, and then roared as it charged at the four.
With a loud shout, the Golden-Headed Jiedi leaped into the air, wielding his Vajra pestle, and smashed it into the wild boar's head.
Unexpectedly, the wild boar's head was extremely hard, and with a 'bang', it knocked the vajra out of his hand and flew away.
Then the wild boar thrust its tusks upwards, piercing through the thigh of the Golden-Headed Jiedi with a 'plop' sound, and then flung him away, crashing into the Silver-Headed Jiedi and the Polo Jiedi.
The Parasangjiedi was greatly alarmed by this situation. He hurriedly grabbed the Silver-Headed Jiedi and the Parasangjiedi and turned to run outside. The Silver-Headed Jiedi and the Pineapple Jiedi grabbed the Gold-Headed Jiedi.
But as soon as the monk Jieti turned around, he was hit with a loud bang and felt dizzy. After he regained his balance, he looked around and exclaimed in surprise, "Who closed the door?"
Silver-headed Jiedi and Pineapple Jiedi turned around and saw that the door had been closed at some point. Pineapple Jiedi smashed it with his weapon and rammed it with his body, but the door did not budge an inch.
At this moment, the wild boar had already charged in front of him, and the first to be hit was Jin Tou Jie Di. He was pierced through the right shoulder by the boar's tusk. Then, the boar swung its head, and Jin Tou Jie Di was thrown into the air, hanging right on the roof beam.
"Ouch!" Jin Tou Jie Di clutched his thigh and right shoulder, two bloody wounds, and cried out in pain.
At this moment, another series of crackling sounds of fighting came from below. He turned his head and looked down, and saw that Silver-Headed Jiedi, Parajiedi, and Paraseng Jiedi were fighting fiercely with the wild boar. However, their weapons could not break through the wild boar's physical defenses, and they were chased all over the house by the wild boar.
Seeing this, the Golden-Headed Jiedi quickly shouted, "Quickly, get on the beam!"
Upon hearing this, the Silver-Headed Jiedi quickly kicked off the wall and flew to the roof beam.
The monk Pāraṇī took a leap and flew to the top of the wild boar's head. Using the boar's raised head as leverage, he easily jumped onto the roof beam.
Only Polojiedi was being relentlessly chased by the wild boar. He first looked up at the location of the roof beam, then suddenly turned around and shook off the wild boar, before leaping towards the roof beam.
Just then, the wild boar was tricked by Polojiedi, but it reacted very quickly, leaping forward on all four hooves and charging at Polojiedi's rear end in mid-air with its left tusk.
With a 'splat' sound, a burst of blood erupted from Polojiedi's buttocks. 'Ouch!' Polojiedi screamed in agony as his body plummeted downwards.
At this moment, the Silver-Headed Jiedi and the Parasang Jiedi quickly stepped in, grabbed the Parasang Jiedi, and pulled him onto the roof beam.
The Paragate, who had climbed onto the roof beam, clutched his buttocks and screamed in pain. The Parasanggate stepped forward, examined the Paragate's wound, and said, "Good."
Polojiedi said, "I'm injured, how come you're alright?"
The monk said with a smile, “Everyone has only nine orifices, but you now have one more than everyone else, so you have ten orifices.”
"Ah?" Polojiedi cried out in agony, "That damned wild boar, it pierced my butt!"
As soon as Polojiedi finished speaking, the howling of a wild boar came from below. Everyone was startled and hurriedly looked down. They saw the wild boar leaping up and down, but the house was so wide and tall that the wild boar jumped dozens of times but still couldn't touch the roof beam.
The four men breathed a sigh of relief when they saw that the wild boar couldn't jump up. However, although the boar couldn't reach the roof beam, it showed no intention of leaving. Instead, it went to the door and lay down, staring intently at the four men.
“I never imagined that we, who are the mighty guardians of the mountain appointed by Buddha, would be blocked on the roof beam by a wild boar. It’s too embarrassing to tell anyone,” said Silver-Headed Jiedi.
The monk said, "It's not that bad yet. It would be truly shameful if we were stuck here and couldn't get out."
The Golden-Headed Jiedi said, "Para-Sengjiedi and Silver-Headed Jiedi, you two will protect me and Para-Jiedi. We will heal our wounds first, and then we will find a way to subdue this evil creature."
Upon hearing this, the Silver-Headed Jiedi and the Parasambhava Jiedi nodded, and then each went to the side of the Gold-Headed Jiedi and the Parasambhava Jiedi to begin protecting them.
Three days had passed, and seeing that the four Golden-Headed Jiedi had not yet emerged by the appointed date, the Maha Jiedi outside no longer hesitated and immediately rode a cloud towards Mount Ling.
Upon returning to Mount Ling, Maha Jiedi immediately went to the Vairocana Temple to pay homage to the Buddha Vairocana.
Upon arriving at the main hall, Vairocana Buddha asked, "Mahagater, have Tang Sanzang and his disciples encountered any trouble?"
Maha Jiedi clasped his hands together and said, “Reporting to the Great Sun Buddha, the pilgrim arrived at ‘Wanhua Ridge’ and mistakenly entered a village. Since then, he has disappeared without a trace. The four Jiedi, Jintou, Yintou, Polo, and Polo, went inside to search for him and promised to return in three days. Now, three days have passed, and the four Jiedi have also disappeared. They must have also fallen into that demon village. Therefore, I have come to report to the Buddha.”
The Great Sun Tathagata nodded slightly, then closed his eyes and instantly surveyed the entire Western Continent, including the village at Wanhua Ridge.
Soon after, the Great Sun Tathagata opened his eyes and said solemnly, "The village on Wanhua Ridge is a transformation of other things, not a real village. Tang Sanzang and his disciples, as well as the four Jiedi, are indeed trapped in it and cannot escape."
Upon hearing this, Mahagateti hurriedly asked, "Buddha, do you know the origin of that demon village?"
The Great Sun Buddha shook his head and said, "It is not possible to discern its origin at this time."
Then, the Great Sun Tathagata asked, "Which Bodhisattva is willing to go to the Myriad Transformations Ridge to rescue Tang Sanzang and his disciples, as well as the four Jiedi?"
Upon hearing the words of Vairocana Buddha, Prabhutaratna Bodhisattva immediately stood up and said, "This disciple is willing to go."
The Buddha smiled and nodded, saying, "Since Venerable Many Treasures is willing to go, then this humble monk will send a few more Bodhisattvas to assist you."
As he spoke, Vairocana Buddha called out the names of three Bodhisattvas: Akasagarbha Bodhisattva, Lingji Bodhisattva, and Huayan Bodhisattva. The three Bodhisattvas stepped out of their lotus thrones and bowed. Vairocana Buddha said, "Please, Venerable Ones, go with Venerable Duobao to Wanhua Ridge, destroy the demon village, and rescue Tang Sanzang and his disciples, as well as the four Jiedi, who are trapped there."
The four Bodhisattvas, namely, Duobao Bodhisattva, Akasagarbha Bodhisattva, Lingji Bodhisattva, and Huayan Bodhisattva, put their hands together in prayer and bowed in unison, saying, "We will respectfully obey the Buddha's decree."
The four bodhisattvas then bid farewell to Vairocana Buddha and, together with Mahagateri, left Mount Sumeru, heading towards Wanhua Ridge. (End of Chapter)
