“I know,” Agni said, “but that was the incompetence of the Vedic army; what does that have to do with our teachings?”

“It has a very important relationship,” Indra said. “The caste system is based on the afterlife. Suffering in this life is transformed into blessings in the next. Although this can effectively govern living beings, it reduces the ability to wage war.”

Naga asked, "King of the gods, Indra, why must you revise your doctrines because of this? Haven't the Tang army all left?"

Indra replied, “Have you forgotten what we are doing? We are going to compete with Buddhism for control of Aparagodaniya and spread the Brahmanical faith. War in the mortal world is inevitable.”

“Only through the continuous expansion of the Vedic kingdom can our faith be spread,” Indra said.

Then Vishnu spoke up, saying to the crowd, "No matter how we gods fight, the spread of faith will ultimately come down to the living beings on earth."

Upon hearing Vishnu speak, the gods fell silent.

Then Murogane asked, "So how should the doctrine be revised?"

Indra looked up at Saraswati, Brahma's wife, and bowed, saying, "Please ask Lady Saraswati to enlighten the gods."

Saraswati said, “Ladies and gentlemen, I recently traveled to the Great Tang Kingdom in Jambudvipa. I found that the people of this country value their history very much, so I studied it and discovered something amazing.”

The gods listened quietly, and Saraswati continued, "In their history, many countries vied for supremacy. Among them was a small, remote country that was originally small and weak, but it rapidly grew powerful during a reform and eventually destroyed all the other countries, achieving unification."

At this point, Saraswati took out a book from her sleeve and said, "'Shang Yang's Reforms' is the true essence of Eastern countries. Since the Tang Dynasty's army is so strong, why can't we learn from them?"

The explanation of caste has undergone a significant change. The original explanation was that caste is innate; people are born into low castes or even untouchables because they didn't suffer and accumulate good karma in their previous lives. Therefore, one must strive to suffer and accumulate good karma in this life so that one can rise in caste in the next.

The current explanation is: caste is innate, but can be changed later in life, and one can be elevated in this lifetime. As long as one can spread Brahmanism and make contributions in the process, one can directly improve their caste and enjoy wealth and blessings.

This directly borrowed the military merit system from Shang Yang's reforms. To counter the secular beliefs of Buddhism, Brahmanism needed a stronger secular faith.

Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to revise the doctrines, and it is also extremely necessary to transform the Vedic kingdom into a secular war behemoth that spreads Brahmanism.
