The Wizard's Secret Journey
Chapter 244 Resentment
Chapter 244 Resentment (4.4k)
Samuel was the first to spot the two uninvited guests outside the watchtower.
The crimson light illuminated the two figures.
Samuel took a closer look and suddenly paused.
He knew both of these uninvited guests.
The two were none other than the two first-tier wizards leading the French Chamber of Commerce!
"Lord Samuel, please save us!" The anxious cries of the two first-tier wizards were somewhat faint, mingled with the howling sound of the impact energy dissipating.
They looked extremely disheveled, their shaman robes were torn, their bodies were covered in dust, and they looked bewildered.
Samuel looked troubled, instinctively pressing his hand to the badge on his chest, sending a message to Lynn, who was in the watchtower, before looking up to explain to Gobert and Benjamin:
"I'm sorry, gentlemen, once the defensive magic array of the watchtower is closed, it will take at least 5 minutes to reopen it. I'm afraid we won't be able to save you then."
"You two...you could try your luck at the nearby watchtower or outpost."
What followed was clearly just Samuel's hasty excuse, but Gobert and Benjamin's answers greatly shocked Lynn.
"The watchtowers around us have all been destroyed, and you are the only ones left in the vicinity!" Gobert pleaded, his voice almost shouting.
Benjamin then pulled out a handful of magic stones from his pocket.
The two men cried out in unison, "Please, Lord Samuel, save our lives!"
Samuel's pupils contracted slightly, and he murmured absentmindedly, "The watchtowers next to us have all been destroyed by the shockwave from the Gray Forest Ruins?"
Gobert nodded vigorously, glanced at the Graywood ruins, and swallowed hard.
A new wave of shockwaves has formed and is about to sweep in.
Fear gripped Gobert's heart, and he pleaded in a hoarse voice, "Please, Lord Samuel, and Lord Lynn, let us in, I'll pay any price!"
Benjamin trembled slightly as he held the magic stone closer: "I'm willing to pay any price, please..."
Bang! !
The shockwave has swept in again.
Samuel watched the two struggling to maintain their protective magic, like duckweed swaying in a storm, and felt a pang of pity.
At this moment, Samuel suddenly remembered something and hurriedly asked, "Your Excellencies, why don't you flee in a direction away from the Graywood Ruins?"
He, Lynn, and the Golden Thorn apprentices were unable to leave because of their duties.
But Gobert and his companion were different; they were just ordinary businessmen who, faced with such a disaster, could have easily fled in a direction far from the Ashwood Ruins.
Gobert and Benjamin were so focused on resisting the shockwave that they couldn't speak and could only manage a wry smile.
At this moment, Lynn finally emerged from the watchtower. He looked at Gobert and Benjamin, who were struggling in the shockwave, and a strange expression appeared on his face.
Samuel noticed his arrival and turned to ask, "The intervals between each shockwave are getting longer now. After this wave ends, there should be a three-minute gap. Can we try to rescue them?"
"At that time, the four of us first-tier wizards should be able to temporarily protect all the Golden Thorn apprentices while waiting for the watchtower's protective shield to reopen."
Lynn didn't speak, but simply shook his head calmly.
At this point, the eighth shockwave was nearing its end. Samuel was slightly anxious, but since Gobert and Benjamin were not members of the Horsens School, he did not ask any further questions.
After all, Samuel trusted Lynn a great deal. Since Lynn shook his head, he must have his reasons.
Soon, the final powerful shockwave of the 8th round swept in.
Gobert and Benjamin's faces drained of color instantly, and they strained with all their might to hold on.
The deadly nature of the shockwave from the Gray Forest Ruins lies not in the shockwave itself, but in the terrifying negative effects it contains.
So even though Gobert and Benjamin cleverly hid behind the watchtower's protective shield, it didn't make things much easier.
Among them, Gobert, who was slightly weaker and only at the intermediate level of the first rank, let out a muffled groan at a certain moment. The protective shield covering his body flickered violently a few times like a candle in the wind, and then shattered with a bang.
Although Gobert cast the spell again in the next second, in that short moment, his skin had already been corroded and turned grayish-black.
Gobert's face was contorted, and he gritted his teeth and howled in agony, clearly in extreme pain!
Fortunately, he still managed to weather the storm.
Gobert took a deep breath, forced a smile, and looked at Lynn: "Mr. Lynn, I think Mr. Samuel's proposal is worth a try. Benjamin and I are willing to give our all for it!"
"Didn't you want Black Moon relics? We just happened to acquire two Black Moon relics during this trade, which we can offer to you!"
Lynn looked puzzled and suddenly asked, "Why don't you escape?"
Gobert smiled wryly: "Your Excellency probably has no idea how fast the shockwave from the Gray Forest Ruins is, or how wide its range is."
"If we had chosen to flee from the beginning, there might have been a sliver of hope to get away, but at that time we... made the wrong decision."
"It's too late now."
"The shockwave is moving too fast and is intensifying rapidly; we have no chance of escaping it."
The shockwave from the Graywood Ruins was indeed very fast; Lynn felt it should be at least as fast as a second-tier wizard's flight speed.
However, the scope is very broad... Lynn really didn't know that.
As time ticked away, Gobert pleaded again, "If you don't believe me, Benjamin and I are willing to draw up a contract right now!"
“Lynn…” Samuel couldn’t help but ask.
Lynn glanced at him, then looked at Gobert and Benjamin, and shook his head calmly, saying, "Gentlemen, although I don't know how you escaped the pursuit of those Silver Ring Wizards, there is absolutely no way we can turn off the protective shield. Please try your luck elsewhere."
Samuel was taken aback, then realized what he meant and murmured, "So the distress signal just now was because they saw these two first-tier wizards invading?"
Lynn nodded slowly and said calmly, "Lord Gobert, Lord Benjamin, I'm afraid you didn't make the wrong decision at the beginning, but because you were being hunted by the Silver Ring Wizards and were unwilling to give up the opportunity to explore the ruins, you missed the best time to escape... Am I right?"
Gobert and Benjamin looked grim.
They were right, Lynn had predicted.
When they were escaping, Gobert and Benjamin could have chosen to stay away from the Greywood Ruins, but their greed made them unwilling to stray too far from the ruins, always thinking that they would have a chance to shake off their pursuers and successfully enter the center of the Greywood Ruins.
As a result, they ended up in this situation.
After saying this, Lynn ignored the two wizards outside and prepared to return to the watchtower to monitor the surroundings.
But the next second, he suddenly heard a loud bang from the protective shield behind him!
Turning around, Lynn saw Benjamin's expression was ferocious, his hands wreathed in flames as he hurled fireballs at the watchtower's protective shield.
"You!" Samuel's expression changed drastically, all sympathy he had for Gobert and Benjamin vanished, and he roared angrily.
“Let them vent their anger, Samuel,” Lynn said calmly, then turned back to remind him, “If I were you, I would never waste my magic like this.”
However, good words are useless against a damned devil. Benjamin, upon hearing this, not only failed to regain his senses but became even more furious.
He looked at Lynn and Samuel, who were relaxed and at ease inside the protective barrier, and his anger burned fiercely!
Why!
The fear of death further fueled this anger, making it burn even more fiercely.
Even Gobert, who was standing next to him, was infected.
The latter seemed to know that he had no hope of escaping, and a ferocious expression that was both a smile and a cry appeared on his withered face. He actually attacked the watchtower's protective shield together with Benjamin next to him.
Some will succumb to despair, but the brave among them will silently await the end.
However, the most cowardly among them will desperately try to drag innocent people down with them.
Lynn looked at the two wizards with a calm expression, his heart devoid of sorrow or joy.
He turned around and strode toward the watchtower.
Lynn was not worried that Gobert and Benjamin's attack would have any impact on the watchtower's defenses.
After all, even if he used all his strength, he couldn't possibly break through the defenses of this watchtower that had a continuous supply of magical energy, let alone these two ordinary first-tier wizards.
Samuel didn't interfere any further. He glanced at Gobert and Benjamin one last time, sighed silently, and followed Lynn away.
As for the Golden Thorn apprentices, they had already been herded by the two into three temporarily renovated interconnected houses next to the watchtower.
So for a moment, not a single wizard could be found inside the protective shield.
Only the sounds of impact continued. *Whoosh!*
A new wave of gray forest disasters has struck again.
The sounds of Gobert and Benjamin's attacks disappeared.
The five waves of disaster subsided quickly.
bang -- bang -- bang --
The sound of impact rang out again.
"I don't know what they're trying to achieve by doing this."
Inside the watchtower, Samuel sighed.
Lynn did not answer, but waved his hand to summon a light screen.
In the light screen, Gobert and Benjamin are still roaring and desperately attacking the watchtower's protective shield.
At this point, their attacks, besides being motivated by a desire to drag people down with them, also stemmed from a greater fear of death.
It's more like a catharsis, a futile struggle before death.
"They'll sober up in a while after they've vented."
Lynn also sighed.
He looked at the light screen displaying the ruins of the Gray Forest on the other side, feeling a deep sense of sorrow.
Frankly speaking, they had no real grudge against Gobert and Benjamin.
While I wouldn't necessarily sympathize with them, seeing their predicament at this moment evoked a sense of shared sorrow, like the fox mourning the rabbit's death.
After all, if the watchtower's protective shield couldn't hold out any longer, they would be in the same predicament as Gobert and Benjamin.
Lynn shook his head, unwilling to think about it any further.
Just then, one of the crystals in front of him suddenly lit up with a red light.
It then quickly went out and returned to normal.
"Hmm?" Samuel asked in confusion, glancing at Lynn instinctively.
Although the warning signal from the crystal was only fleeting, Lynn and Samuel were no ordinary people and saw it clearly.
Lynn frowned, not letting this strange phenomenon slip by.
They are currently relying entirely on this watchtower to defend against the gray-white disaster, so we must not be careless.
"What's going on, Lynn?"
“It’s still unclear.” Lynn reached out to the crystal and murmured, “But this crystal is connected to the power supply system.”
Lynn became more vigilant. For magical creations, the energy system was as crucial as magic for a wizard; it was the cornerstone for all functions.
If a serious problem occurs, not only will maintaining the protective shield be impossible, but the entire watchtower will be paralyzed!
"Power supply system?!" Samuel took a deep breath, realizing the seriousness of the situation. He said in a deep voice, "Do you need help?"
“No need, I’ll check the entire watchtower’s power supply system one by one.” Lynn shook his head and waved his hand gently. The inner wall of the watchtower in front of him immediately cracked open, revealing its complex structure.
Samuel glanced at it, but only felt a headache coming on. He quickly looked away and stood aside to protect Lynn.
Lynn quickly checked the power supply structure inside the watchtower, and everything was normal.
"Could it be that the magic energy supply section I added later, which extracts magic stone from underground veins, has malfunctioned?"
Lynn then left the watchtower to continue his inspection.
Gobert and Benjamin, who were outside the protective shield, didn't understand Lynn's actions at first, but then they suddenly realized what was going on.
However, the two wizards mistakenly believed that their attack had worked, and thus shouted:
"Lynn, Samuel, if you don't want to die with us, then temporarily deactivate the protective shield and let us in!"
Perhaps seeing a glimmer of hope for survival, Gobert and Benjamin's faces flushed with a sickly redness, and their attacks became even more ferocious.
It was like a final burst of energy before death.
However, Lynn completely ignored their words, treating them as mere whispers in the wind.
Samuel, who was standing guard nearby, was furious and wanted to yell back, but he was worried about interfering with Lynn's actions, so he held back and just glared at Gobert and Benjamin.
Before long, Lynn finished checking the remaining power supply structure and looked puzzled.
"How is it?" Samuel asked.
“No problems were found; all the structures are intact and normal.” Lynn shook his head and looked at the Gray Forest ruins in the distance.
A new wave of impact is about to erupt.
"That might just be a false alarm," Samuel speculated.
However, as Lynn looked at the Graywood Ruins, a thought flashed through his mind.
His pupils suddenly contracted, and without explaining anything, his body flashed with electricity, instantly teleporting him to the gate of the watchtower!
Samuel was taken aback.
In the distance, the Gray Forest ruins erupted in another attack.
This time, however, it was completely different from the previous shocks.
Like a wild beast unleashed, it crashed into the earth, causing the surface to churn like waves under the powerful impact, pushing up massive mudslides that spread outwards.
Samuel was terrified and hurriedly caught up with Lynn!
"What's wrong?" Samuel asked hastily as he entered the watchtower.
"Take out all the magic stones you have!" Lynn said in a deep voice, his arms flying, and the light screen in front of him kept appearing and disappearing.
Samuel did not hesitate and immediately took out all the magic stones.
Lynn also took out his magic stone at the same time and waved it gently.
All the magic stones spontaneously rose upwards and gathered at the top of the tower.
hum-
Finally, Lynn stopped what he was doing and wiped the sweat from his forehead.
boom! !
Immediately afterwards, a powerful impact came.
Samuel felt the ground beneath his feet shaking violently.
Lynn could sense that things were in complete chaos underground, with the magic energy veins that were originally used to power the watchtower now in pieces.
Although it wasn't completely destroyed, if he hadn't urgently switched the watchtower's power supply mode from magic energy veins to magic stone power, the protective shield outside the watchtower would definitely have collapsed and disappeared.
"Oh right, I also need to go and check on those Golden Thorn Apprentices."
Lynn breathed a sigh of relief, called to Samuel, and walked out of the watchtower.
He wasn't worried that the Golden Thorn apprentice would be thrown out.
One reason is that all Golden Thorn apprentices can fly, so ground tremors have little effect on them.
Another reason is that the protective shield is two-way, so even if the Golden Thorn Apprentice wanted to go out, he couldn't.
As expected, the Golden Thorn apprentices were mostly unharmed, but the newly repaired wooden houses collapsed again.
Lynn glanced outside the protective shield; Gobert and Benjamin had already disappeared from sight.
Looking back at the Gray Forest ruins.
Under the crimson light, the gray-white light no longer gathered above the gray forest.
The gray-white disaster seems to have ended.
