Chapter 485 Frost Troll
Chapter 485 Frost Troll
On the shore of Cuimu Cold Lake, the cold wind swirled up tiny ice crystals, which shimmered like diamonds in the afternoon sun.
The frost giants were clearly well adapted to this environment; some of the younger giants even excitedly jumped into the icy lake, splashing up large sprays of water.
“This is it,” said Ragras, the leader of the frost giants, pointing to the center of the lake, his breath condensing into frost in the air. “The portal is beneath the center of this lake.”
Li Wei leaped off Sersney's back, and the Black Dragon Lady gracefully twirled in the air before transforming into human form and landing beside him, still wearing that black dress that seemed to be adorned with stars.
"Couldn't you frost giants choose a drier place as the portal?" Sersni said discontentedly.
Although black dragons don't hate water like red dragons, they clearly don't like it either. Apart from sea dragons and tide lords, not many dragons like being underwater, as it greatly limits their strength.
Lagrass's voice boomed like thunder: "Your Excellency Sersni, this portal was created by the Father God countless years ago, even before our race arrived in this world. We are merely its guardians, not its creators."
"Perhaps this place used to be a plain, but the power of time has transformed it into what it is today."
Li Wei looked down into the center of the lake.
As a legend, he could sense the faint but unusually ancient magical fluctuations emanating from there.
This energy was unlike any magic he was familiar with; it was more primal and powerful.
"How do you plan to get there?" Li Wei asked.
He was blessed by the sea goddess and possessed a partial talent for controlling the water element. Although he was not strong enough to create towering waves, he could swim in the water with ease, like a fish in water.
The reason he was able to move freely through the Gem Sea last time was because of the Starry Sky Twin Shadow Barrier.
“My lord, we frost giants are not only favored by the ice element, but also possess the talents of the water element.” Lagras smiled, took out a huge horn from his waist, and blew a deep and long tone. The lake surface began to ripple, like Moses parting the Red Sea, the water pouring in to both sides, revealing a wide path leading directly to the lake bottom, where seashells in the sand refracted rainbow colors in the sunlight.
This road stretches all the way to the horizon.
Clearly, this Frost Barbarian wasn't exaggerating. Besides ice magic, it also possessed water magic, though not as powerful as ice magic, and had to rely on magical items.
“Please, Lord Levi.” Lagras gestured, and the frost giants behind him focused their gazes on the two of them.
Levi exchanged a glance with Sersne, then walked to the front. The Frost Giants followed in an orderly fashion behind them.
My leather hunting boots sank into the sand, one step at a time. The lake on either side seemed like a glass wall, revealing various fish, shrimp, and crabs within.
I walked along the underwater path for an unknown amount of time.
"Lord Li Wei has arrived," Lagras said.
The elevation difference between this place and the lake surface is at least several thousand meters, yet there is a huge circular platform in the center. After climbing more than a hundred stone steps, you will find that the platform is completely empty.
"How do we get there?" Li Wei looked around.
“My lord, this requires the ring that connects to the portal,” Lagras reminded him.
Li Wei then looked at the azure ring on his thumb. Of course, he hadn't forgotten that this ring, which he had tricked from Lagras, could control the portal. He was just testing whether the other party had any other way to open the portal.
Probing often yields the best results when it happens unintentionally.
The lord nodded as if he remembered, then used holy light to trigger the magic engraved on it.
Rumble~
A huge stone gate emerged from beneath the platform and came into view.
At the center of the stone gate, a rotating energy vortex floats, radiating a bone-chilling cold and powerful magical fluctuations.
The vortex was ice blue, with occasional silver lightning bolts leaping within it.
"This is the portal to Tiridary." Ragnaros's voice echoed from the bottom of the lake, tinged with a rare hint of emotion: "It is also the last home left to us frost giants by our Father God."
"Are you ready, Lord Levi?" Ragras asked, as the other frost giants began to gather before the portal, their faces filled with anticipation for home.
They had been out for far too long and were eager to know how things were back home. Moreover, the environment of the material world was indeed unsuitable for them, and even their size had decreased considerably to adapt to the elemental concentration of this world.
Li Wei felt that Sersney beside him tensed up slightly.
“Lead the way.” A hint of compassion appeared on Li Wei’s face. “Let us completely eliminate the threat to your homeland.”
The frost giant leader grinned, revealing his uneven teeth.
It turned to face the portal and leaped into the swirling energy vortex first. The other frost giants followed closely behind, disappearing one by one into the icy blue light.
Levi felt Sersney's hand gently touch his arm, and he turned his head.
"Remember," the Black Dragon Queen whispered, "if things go wrong, I'll take you away immediately. Don't be reckless."
"Are you concerned about me?" The lord smiled slightly.
Unsurprisingly, he immediately received a disapproving eye roll: "Concerned about you? I wish you were dead right now. Who told you to have the ring that controls the portal? I just don't want to be stuck in this godforsaken ice plain forever, spending every day with these Frost Barbarians."
"Don't worry, it's not that good. If I die, you'll most likely be imprisoned by these Frost Barbarians. Dragon blood and dragon hearts are top-tier magical materials. Of course, that's the most wasteful approach. Anyone with a brain knows that a descendant with half dragon blood and half giant blood possesses the most outstanding talent. Your only fate is to be imprisoned and have a bunch of dragon-blooded offspring for these Frost Barbarians."
Li Wei burst into laughter, and before the Black Dragon Queen could utter a curse, he grabbed her hand and took a step forward.
The moment the energy vortex engulfed him, Li Wei felt a sensation he had never experienced before, neither tearing nor squeezing.
It's like the dazed feeling of being thrown into ice water and then immediately pulled out.
My vision was filled with ice-blue, and I heard a buzzing sound of hundreds of voices mixed together.
Then, everything suddenly calmed down.
cold.
This was Li Wei's first impression.
It wasn't the mild cold of winter in Debei, but an extreme low temperature that pierced to the bone and froze your breath.
His breath immediately turned into ice crystals and fell, indicating that the temperature here was extremely low. Ordinary people would only end up as popsicles if they came here, but it didn't affect him.
He was standing on a vast snowfield, the sky was as dark as dusk, and two pale moons hung in the sky, casting cold shadows.
The distant mountains resembled ice swords piercing the sky, sharp and indifferent.
"Such high ice peaks! If you were to ski on them, you'd never be able to get down," Li Wei remarked. The entire area was a blanket of white, with majestic snow-capped peaks everywhere, and the ground covered in frozen ice.
“Welcome to Tiridates, Lord Levi,” Ragnarok’s voice rang out beside him.
This frost giant leader is now a good half-height taller than he was in the material world, at least eighty-eight meters tall, resembling a small snow mountain.
All the frost giants had passed safely, as their bodies had suddenly returned to their original forms, and they were moving around, seemingly enjoying the frigid environment.
Sersne shivered and immediately cast a warming spell on herself. "This godforsaken place is ten times colder than the coldest winter in the North!"
She complained, and her breath quickly turned into frost and landed on her black dress.
Li Wei didn't care. With his current physique, he could roll around in lava, so he really didn't feel this bit of cold.
He looked around and saw no signs of life except for the endless snowfields and distant icebergs.
"Where is your tribe?" Li Wei asked.
He had assumed the portal was built in the frost giants' lair, but it seems it wasn't.
Ragras pointed to the distant, ice-sword-like mountain ranges: "This place is called the Frostwhisper Mountains, inhabited by thousands of frost giants and many ice elemental beasts..."
It suddenly stopped, its expression turning wary: "Something's coming."
Li Wei also sensed it; from the distance of the snowfield, countless life energies were rapidly approaching.
These are not frost giants; these energies are filled with hostility.
"A pack of snow wolves?" Sersni asked doubtfully.
Soon, the figures of those creatures came into view.
It was indeed a wolf-like creature, but its size was comparable to that of the bear on Debe. It was entirely white, with only its eyes flashing with an ominous red light.
They move extremely fast, leaving almost no trace on the snow, clearly hunters adapted to this environment.
Most disturbingly, these snow wolves were ridden by some kind of humanoid creature—skinny and bluish-gray with pointed ears, ugly faces, wearing rough fur, and holding bone spears.
Their eyes have no whites at all; they are completely black, making them look extremely eerie.
“Ice goblins!” Ragras roared, grabbing his giant stone club. “How did these disgusting hyenas get here? We’re so close to our territory.”
The wolf riders howled sharply, spread out, and surrounded them in a skilled hunting formation.
There were approximately tens of thousands of riders. If they were all ordinary people, this number would be enough to easily destroy them.
"Are these things really that powerful?" Li Wei asked curiously.
No wonder these guys are called ice goblins; apart from their skin color being different from the goblins of the physical world, they look almost identical.
However, the biggest difference is that the goblins, who are supposed to be bullies who only bully the weak and fear the strong, actually dared to attack the frost giants. Are the goblins from other worlds really that extraordinary?
“These guys aren’t particularly strong, but they’re fearless. We once had a member of our tribe get caught alone and they wore him down to death. But the most troublesome thing is that these guys are just hyenas kept by the Frost Trolls. The fact that so many Ice Goblins are here means that the Frost Trolls have come too.” Ragras had a worried look on his face.
It left enough able-bodied men in the tribe, even its own son Engra, but if all the frost trolls attacked, it would inevitably cause some trouble.
The lead ice goblin let out a piercing scream, and the wolf riders charged simultaneously, their bone spears aimed at their target.
The frost giant warriors immediately formed a defensive formation, protecting Levi and Sersne in the center.
"Lord Levi's ice goblin javelins have frost iron tips, which are very sharp, and they are also coated with a potent poison specially made by the frost trolls," Lagras reminded him, while waving his hand to summon an ice wall to block the flying bone spears.
Sersney's long black dress fluttered even without wind: "What's there to worry about with these weak insects?"
With a wave of her hand, a dark energy transformed into a whip that lashed out at the wolf pack, tearing the ice goblins and their mounts to pieces in its wake.
These ice goblins are indeed much stronger than the goblins of the material world, and have even reached the level of mid-tier magical beasts.
But for these frost giants and Sersne, it meant nothing at all.
Li Wei observed the battlefield and discovered that these ice goblins were indeed as Raglas had said, completely unaware of the meaning of fear.
Even as their companions met a gruesome end, they still charged forward relentlessly, howling piercingly, "Ork! Ork!"
He didn't join the battle directly, but instead carefully observed the ice goblins' attack patterns, wanting to see what the specific differences were between these guys and goblins.
Soon, he noticed a dozen or so relatively well-dressed ice goblins waving bone staffs on a small hill in the distance; they were probably priests.
Just as he expected, a series of sharp ice blades flew towards him.
Without his prompting, Lagras had already noticed, took a deep breath, and then exhaled a burst of extremely cold breath.
Wherever the cold front passed, even the air seemed to freeze. Ice blades were blown away, and the ice goblin priest on the hill was instantly frozen, frozen in place in his final pose.
Generally speaking, priests also play the role of leaders in tribes.
Now that these priests are dead, the ice goblin army is thrown into chaos, but instead of collapsing, they attack even more frantically.
"Aren't you afraid of death?" Sersni frowned. She had already used shadow magic to kill hundreds of ice goblins, but these creatures seemed to know no fear at all.
Just then, a deep and powerful horn sounded from afar, accompanied by a tremor in the earth.
On the distant snowfield, a group of enormous figures appeared—creatures no smaller than frost giants, with skin like ice-blue rock, covered in thick white frost, and wielding huge ice weapons.
"Frost Trolls!" Ragras roared, "They've come after all!"
Li Wei squinted; these newly appeared creatures were indeed impressive. Each frost troll was nearly eighty meters tall, and the earth trembled when it moved.
They were few in number, only about twenty, but each one emanated a powerful aura of ice element.
Sersne leaned closer to Levi and whispered, "These guys are tough to deal with. I can sense the ancient magic within them."
