Chapter 26: The picture shows the dagger
Chapter 26: The picture shows the dagger
Huo Hai said loudly: "Having said so much, let's get back to the point. The teachings of the saints are literal and do not need to be explained by anyone. As for the theories of the sub-saints, we need to look at them dialectically, understand them, and learn from them. We should put aside our disputes and develop together... cough cough cough..."
"When I was little, I admired Confucius very much. I once swore that my greatest wish in life was to do this!"
"Establish a mind for heaven and earth, establish a destiny for the people, pass on the unique knowledge of the ancient sages, and bring peace to the world for all eternity!"
Huo Hai specifically changed the sentence "continue the unique skills" in this poem to "pass on the unique skills". There are too many people who add to the old story. We must not let those people have the idea of continuing the unique skills.
Isn't it good to pass on the secret skills? If you want to spread it all over China, spread it to the southern peninsula, the eastern peninsula, the eastern islands, and then spread it to the desert, to the Black Sea, and to the west coast of the Eurasian continent. Look at how they spread it.
Continue? Continue Del! Hurry up and pass it on!
After hearing these four sentences, everyone was in awe, and some even looked at Huo Hai as if they saw their idol.
Kong Anguo, Meng Qing, and Xun Zhu: Okay, okay, you want to be Huozi, right?
However, at this time, Huo Hai said: "So, I worked hard and finally invented white paper."
"Look at this white paper of mine. It's really good. It's tough and delicate. You can write on it, draw on it, roll it up into scrolls, bind it into books, write big characters on it on large sheets, or write small characters on it on small sheets."
"It's the same book, written on bamboo slips. Even if the Overlord is resurrected, he can't resist it. What's the point of learning it?"
"With the same book, if it is replaced with my white paper, a three-year-old child can hold it in his hands and learn while reading."
"Think about it, you also have to teach your sons and grandsons to read. Reading on bamboo slips may take ten years to learn, but reading on blank paper may bring enlightenment in one day, my colleagues!"
OK, OK, let’s advertise, right? Advertise in different ways!
You are passing on the secret skills of the ancient sages and charging a fee for it, right?
Seeing that Huo Hai was advertising and no longer took himself seriously, Kong Anguo calmed down.
If we want to deal with Huo Hai and win the debate against him, we might have to organize some people!
The advertisement has ended and it’s time for the farce to end.
Liu Che asked Wang the eunuch to take the melon seeds away, then he straightened his clothes and said, "Ahem."
Order was restored in the court, which was like a vegetable market.
Liu Che: "It seems that everyone doesn't have much of an opinion. It seems that whether it's the driver or anyone else discussing this boring misunderstanding, it's actually because the elegant language is too concise and easy to express unclearly."
“It’s like there’s no conflict between Mencius and Xunzi. One person says he sees the evil in the origin of human nature, and the other sees the good in the origin.”
"Just like there is meat and water in a meat soup, no one is wrong."
"What is wrong is that later generations misunderstood it, just like Master Dong always said that Xunzi was wrong and Mencius was right. In fact, Xunzi and Mencius were both right, and Master Dong was wrong."
Master Dong, you were only one step away from becoming a god, and you were pulled down.
Liu Che: "So, today, whether it is the coachman, the guest who discussed the misunderstanding, or the people in the folks, none of them did anything wrong. The fault lies in the elegant language."
"So...should we gather some scholars and have them translate the Four Books and Five Classics into vernacular Chinese to prevent others from making mistakes in the future?"
When these words were spoken, everyone in the audience was shocked.
Someone jumped out hastily: "Your Majesty, this is absolutely not possible, we need to think about it carefully!"
Some people also said: "Your Majesty, whether it is Confucius, Mencius or Xunzi, they have all passed away. Who in the world knows the specific meaning of their works? If they are translated into vernacular Chinese, what if the translation is wrong?"
Liu Che said sternly: "If we don't translate it into vernacular Chinese, but translate it from the elegant language into the elegant language we read today, can we guarantee that it will be correct?!"
"Can you promise?"
"still you?!"
“Now that we have discovered the mistakes, we must correct them! Now that we have a direction, we must work hard!”
"Just like Lord Huo said, pass on the unique skills of the ancient saints! Even if you know it's difficult, you must do it!"
"This is decided. Tell all Confucian scholars that I want to translate the Four Books and Five Classics into vernacular Chinese. Everyone can make their own translations. I will also recruit some people to compile the official version."
Others breathed a sigh of relief.
If Liu Che killed everyone and did not allow anyone else to translate, and only asked himself to find someone to translate, no one would agree, and they would have to tear down the roof of the imperial palace.
But the problem is that Liu Che allowed everyone to translate. If you have the ability to make others think that your translation is correct, that is your ability.
Let's all fight based on our own abilities?
No matter whether they are high-ranking officials in the court or great scholars in the folk, I am not afraid of them. Who are I looking down on? Is it possible that my translation is not as exquisite as those of those officials in your palace?
But they forgot one thing.
It seems that spreading information quickly and far is hundreds or thousands of times more important than the exquisiteness of translation.
Huo Hai had already mentioned this matter to Liu Che.
As long as you translate it and quickly promote it to the public, who wouldn't learn it? Currently, to be an official, one must learn Confucianism. The problem is that all the elegant translations of Confucian classics are in the hands of great scholars, so people can't learn them.
If you want to be an official, you must first become a disciple of a great scholar and become his son.
Then you can learn.
What if you still don’t get the position after going through this process?
There is a saying about selecting filial and honest people. It is too difficult to be a filial son and a virtuous disciple at the same time.
However, once the official version is released, you can buy it for money and learn it after buying it. Most of the things in it are no different from the Confucian version.
Do you not learn?
That must be learned!
Because no one had seen the power of paper, no one opposed Liu Che's move.
But some smart people felt that something was wrong.
How did a few coachmen make up the affairs of Your Majesty and turn it into an official book compilation and translation of classics?
And it was translated into vernacular Chinese? ! !
what's the situation?
But they couldn't figure out what went wrong.
……
In the Prince's Palace, Duke Ying lowered his head and reported the situation to Dong Zhongshu.
Lü Bushu was most likely useless, so Dong Zhongshu passed on all his skills to Ying Gong. Although Ying Gong was a royal family member of the previous dynasty and could not serve as an official in the court, he became the prince's Confucian classics teacher because of his status as Dong Zhongshu's direct disciple.
Although he was not qualified to call himself the prince's teacher and could only be called an assistant, he was given convenient access to the palace.
Moreover, since he could not be an official, he could concentrate on his studies and pass on all of Dong Zhongshu's knowledge.
Therefore, Ying Gong was Dong Zhongshu's favorite disciple.
After listening to Lord Ying's account of what happened in the court, Dong Zhongshu closed his eyes.
Two children arguing about the sun.
Not long ago, Dong Zhongshu was discussing the sun with Huo Hai.
Not long after, Huo Hai talked about the "Two Children Arguing About the Sun" written by Lie Zi in the court. What did he mean by "it was written by Lie Zi"? It was obviously written by you, Huo Hai.
Yes, even if Confucius heard the two children arguing about the sun, he could only remain silent.
If you are not in your field, just shut up.
Is this your warning to me?
Dong Zhongshu looked at Ying Gong and said, "In fact, the sun is not that hot in the morning, but hotter at noon. It's not because of the distance, but because the sun shines on the earth obliquely in the morning, but directly at noon, just like sitting on the side of the stove is not as warm as sitting in front of it."
Ying Gong's eyes widened: "Teacher, Confucius didn't know why the sun was cold in the morning and hot at noon, but you know?"
Dong Zhongshu: "I know? Huo Hai knew. He mentioned this to me when we were debating in the Crown Prince's Palace before going to court."
Although what was discussed at that time was the oblique sunlight in winter and the direct sunlight in summer, the application to the morning and noon is clearly the same. Dong Zhongshu was also very good at drawing inferences from one example.
Dong Zhongshu probably knew that what Huo Hai said was true. The reason why the south was hotter was because the sun was shining directly.
So, in summer, the sun is above the entire earth, but in winter it is in the south of the earth. Does this mean that the earth is moving throughout the year?
Thinking of this, Dong Zhongshu felt very painful.
When a great scholar, especially one who is well-versed in ancient and modern times, begins to think about the reasons behind the phenomena... isn't he the second Mozi?
Dong Zhongshu was afraid that with his own intelligence, even if the real master of Mohism appeared within a year, he would not understand Mohism as well as himself.
Lord Ying: "Teacher, should we oppose Huo Hai? He and His Majesty are putting on this show just to translate the Five Classics, right?"
Dong Zhongshu pondered for a moment and said, "Let's wait and see what happens. Some people are more anxious."
The great scholars who make a living by interpreting scriptures are being overturned.
Gongyang School is said to be a school of thought that interprets the Spring and Autumn Annals, but it does not rely on interpreting scriptures to make a living. Gongyang School relies on compiling history to make a living. Among the Five Classics, the Spring and Autumn Annals is the least like a classic, because the Spring and Autumn Annals is a chronological history of the State of Lu.
What the ram learns to eat is actually gunpowder, iron and blood.
