Chapter 49 Xia People Workers

Chapter 49 Xia People Workers
All the miners shouted: "Become Han Chinese!"

This frightened Shi Qing, Dong Zhongshu and Crown Prince Liu Ju.

Huo Hai shrugged: "You said I forced them to work, now you see it?"

Shi Qing was stunned for a moment, then his face became embarrassed. He thought carefully and said with great sorrow: "The pre-Qin "Zhao Gong admonished King Li to stop slander" records the past of King Li of Zhou. King Li of Zhou acted like this, just to prevent the people from speaking out. But you... Lord Huo! You are the real King Li."

"Not only is it more difficult to stop the people from speaking than to stop the river from flooding, but it also forces these people to only say what you want them to say!"

Shi Qing was deeply distressed: "This is simply... simply..."

Huo Hai added: "Heartbroken? Heartbroken? Deeply ashamed? Lawless? Unspeakable?"

Shi Qing: "Yes! It's so crazy!"

Next to him, Dong Zhongshu slapped his forehead.

It seems that the promotion of idioms is completely irreversible.

Idioms are so useful.

In the past, everyone had their own way of writing articles and allusions. Some people wrote well and some wrote poorly, but most of them were not very smooth.

Nowadays, idioms are very convenient to use, and the four-character idioms summarized and added to the dialogue can be said to be a perfect summary, which can raise the emotions to a higher level.

I’m afraid that before long, not only scholars, but even ordinary people will have to understand some idioms and use them in their daily conversations.

How can we stop this?

Huo Hai smiled and looked at Liu Ju: "Your Highness, your cousin will give you a lesson today and teach you some things that the two masters cannot teach you."

Liu Ju thought he could do another fun experiment, so he jumped up and said, "Great!"

Huo Hai pointed to his ears and said, "What you hear with your ears may not be the truth, and what you see with your eyes may not be the truth either."

Liu Ju was puzzled: "If what we hear with our ears and see with our eyes are not necessarily the truth, then what is the truth?"

Huo Hai stroked his chest and said, "It's the heart. You have to listen and watch carefully to know the truth."

Before Liu Ju could speak, Huo Hai stared at Shi Qing and said, "Your Highness, please remember that to listen and watch with your heart is to listen with your conscience, with your true heart, and with a sincere heart, instead of using disgusting and bad intentions to cover up the truth, to make malicious speculations, to confuse right and wrong, and to stir up trouble."

Shi Qing: “You!”

Huo Hai waved his hand: "Come here someone who can speak Chinese."

A man ran out quickly: "Chairman, I can."

Huo Hai: "Which tribe are you from? What was your previous position? What did you do?"

This person: "I am... I am from Jizhou. Before... I was a child, I lived on the grassland, and I..."

Huo Hai interrupted: "Okay, you can go back now. Master Shi Qing will say that you are my hired help."

"Come here, a grassland person who can speak Chinese."

A skinny man, only about 1.5 meters tall, walked out.

The reason why he is called a man even though he is so short and thin is because he has a horrible scar on his face.

Huo Hai: "What's your name? What tribe are you from? Did you grow up on the grassland?"

The man covered his chest and saluted: "Chairman, my name is Gan Dusi, I grew up on the grassland. My earliest tribe was in the very north, called Binghaizi. Later, my tribe was destroyed by a larger tribe, and I became a subordinate of King Anqi. Later, King Anqi was defeated, and I became a warrior and riding slave of the Chanyu headquarters."

Shi Qing: "Are you sure you are a Xiongnu? Can you speak Xiongnu language?"

Gan Dusi glared at Shi Qing and said, "You are the Xiongnu, your whole family is Xiongnu, I am a Xia person!"

There are only two kinds of Huns. One kind believes that they have nothing to do with the Central Plains and calls themselves Hu people.

Another group believes that they are descendants of the Xia Dynasty and their ancestor is Dayu, and they call themselves Xia people.

The Huns were the nickname given to them by the empire.

"Xiong" means bow, "nu" means a lowly person, a lowly species, or a disgusting person. Therefore, "Xiongnu" means "the lowly person holding the arrow".

In later generations, people from some countries who do not understand history still say that they are descendants of the Huns and call themselves Huns. If Gan Dusi knew this, he would laugh out loud.

As he spoke, Gan Dusi spoke some Xiongnu language.

Shi Qing: "What are you talking about?"

Gan Dusi looked at Huo Hai and said, "Chairman, can I swear?" Huo Hai said, "This is a high-ranking official of the empire. He is the future guest of our coal mine and the breadwinner."

Gan Du Si: "Then I have nothing to say."

Huo Hailehe: "Master Shi Qingshi, do you still have any doubts?"

Shi Qing tilted his head and said nothing.

Huo Hai looked at Gan Dusi and said, "Gan Dusi, tell me, why did you say you wanted to become Han Chinese? Why did you kneel down to me, the chairman? I never taught you to kneel down, nor did I tell you to become Han Chinese."

Gan Dusi: "I kneel down because when we are in the tribe, we have to kneel down to thank the king and the Chanyu. I kneel down because I want to thank you, the chairman."

Huo Hai: "Oh? Then why do you want to thank me?"

Gan Dusi: "Because the chairman gave me food and clothes, built a warm house for us to live in, and took in our elderly, children and women."

"When I was in the tribe, I didn't eat meat for several years. I don't remember if I had eaten meat when I was a child, but I had never eaten meat until I followed the Chanyu. After I followed the Chanyu, only when we won a battle and the Chanyu was happy would he give some meat to the small leaders, and they would give us a little meat."

Someone in the Xiongnu crowd laughed: "Haha, that's you, Gan Dusi. You are so unlucky. You were born in the north and have never eaten meat once or twice in your life. We were born in the south of the grassland. We can still eat meat once or twice a year, when we hunt and catch mice. Hahaha!"

Shi Qing's eyes widened and he questioned, "You thank him just because he gave you meat to eat?"

Gan Dusi: "What do you know? We have grains to eat every day, which is something only the king and the nobles can eat! We have vegetables every day, and meat every few days. The life I live here is simply the life of a noble! The chairman asked me to be a noble, so what's wrong with me thanking the chairman?"

Someone in the Hun crowd shouted: "The gods must live in the south!"

Yes, the further north you go, the colder it gets. The further south you go, the more abundant the grass and water are, and there are also prey to hunt in the Yin Mountains.

Only after crossing the river did the Huns see heaven.

Shi Qing muttered: "What's the big deal about eating some grains? You Xiongnu don't produce grains, so it's normal that you don't have grains to eat. We produce grains here, and we all eat grains."

Gan Du Si: "You know shit!"

"We Xia people control hundreds of countries from Yinshan Mountain to the west. Every king on the grassland has his own city, and there are a lot of grains stored in the city. But they never give people like us millet and wheat to eat."

"If we had eaten as much as the Han soldiers every day, how could we have lost so easily? In the end, we lost, and the grain they stored was eaten by General Huo's army!"

"Only the chairman would give us millet and wheat, and even meat. I am living a better life now than any of the previous leaders."

"The chairman also gave me new clothes. The last time I changed into winter clothes was when I was sixteen. Now it's been nine years!"

"That set of clothes was no longer windproof six years ago. Every year when I was herding sheep, I would steal some wool and twist it into thread to mend the clothes. I was beaten several times for stealing wool."

Gan Dusi pointed at his cheek and said, "See? The fiery whip hit my face and the flesh was rotten. Gan Dusi was in pain for a long time."

"As long as I don't get beaten, have enough to eat, and sleep warmly, I'm already living a good life."

"I heard that the chairman is going to give us 3,000 coins every month! That's 3,000 coins. I heard that people living in Chang'an only make 1,000 coins a month! I heard that a sheep in Chang'an costs less than 1,000 coins. My monthly salary can actually buy three sheep with some left over! I have never made as much in my entire life as I do in three days now."

"I will have enough money to live in Chang'an in the future. I plan to work hard to dig coal for the chairman and bring my wife and children to live in Chang'an."

"When my little treasure is born, he will never suffer from hunger or cold again. This kid is so lucky to have met the chairman... In the chairman's words, life is such a pity. This kid was born without feeling what it means to suffer from hunger and cold."

Among the Huns, those who could speak Chinese were constantly translating what Gan Dusi said.

At this time, all the Huns were very happy.

They also imagined their own future and the future of their children.

Shi Qing stamped his feet: "Rituals are ruined and music is ruined! Rituals are ruined and music is ruined!"

Shi Qing shouted that rituals were corrupted and music was collapsed, and then recited the contents of the Book of Rites.

"The Xia way of life respects destiny, worships ghosts and respects gods but keeps them at a distance, is close to people but loyal to them, puts salary before authority, rewards before punishment, is close but not respectful; the people are: ignorant and stupid, wild and unsophisticated, simple but not cultured."

"Confucius never deceived me!"

Didn’t the Huns call themselves Xia people? Is that really the case?
This is the original text from Confucius' Book of Rites. Confucius once compared the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties.

The Xia people ruled the country by respecting the king's orders, respecting the gods but keeping a distance from them, being close to human feelings and loyal, putting salary first and dignity second, and rewards first and punishments second, so their politics and religion were approachable but not respectable. Once they declined, their people became stupid and ignorant, arrogant and rude, simple and uncultured.

In contrast, merchants put gods first, etiquette second, punishment first and reward second. Once the economy declines, the people will not be able to find peace, their minds will be unruly and reckless, and they will be competitive and shameless.

The Zhou people respected etiquette and valued noble character. They were respectful to the gods but kept a distance from them. They were close to human feelings and loyal. Their rewards and punishments were different from those of the Xia and Shang dynasties. They used the rank of nobility as the standard of severity. Therefore, their national policy was to be approachable but not respectable. Once the Zhou people declined, the people were greedy and took shortcuts. They were shameless in their rhetoric and hurt and deceived each other.
