Crusade against the Pope
Chapter 103: Fart! It stinks!
Chapter 103: Fart! It stinks!
This passage is from Romans 13:1-7 in the New Testament. Romans is a letter written by the apostle Paul, the founder of Christianity, to the Christian church in Rome.
In this letter, the Apostle Paul explains in detail the core doctrines of the gospel, especially the concepts of sin, salvation, grace, and righteousness. He hopes to establish contact with the Roman church through this letter and prepare for his possible future trip to Rome.
Contrary to what many people think, strictly speaking, Jesus Christ is not the founder of later Christianity.
Paul is the only one who can truly bear this identity. He was the first to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to non-Jews, and therefore was regarded as the "Apostle to the Gentiles". The Nestorian Church in the Tang Dynasty called him King Paul.
He spent decades establishing churches in a large number of areas, truly spreading the gospel of Christ.
It was also in his hands that the New Testament slowly took shape.
Thousands of years have passed, and the letters written by Paul in the past have become the basis for priests of this era to proclaim their authority.
After the chanting, the priest smiled and said to everyone present: "This is the word of God."
The people in the audience numbly replied: "Thank God."
These villagers did not understand what the priest said at all. They just followed the process of the mass as usual, drifting in the darkness, losing their true spirituality, and turning into soulless puppets.
Of course, the priests cannot tame the villagers by relying solely on the scriptures that are like divine books.
Therefore, after reading the Bible, the priest will speak and give an explanation, connecting the scriptures with the lives of believers and helping everyone understand the deep meaning of the scriptures.
"My fellow believers!" the priest said slowly.
"Today we need to know what authority is."
"The verses I just read are to let us know that all power comes from God."
"Those in authority are God's representatives on earth. This is especially true of our Lord. His rule is God-given, and his power as Lord is unlimited!"
"His power as a lord is unlimited!"
The priest emphasized it again, and then there was a series of farts, praising Leonard and portraying him as a unique crusader saint in heaven and on earth.
"Reynald is the sun! He is our great leader! The eternal lord! He will never make mistakes! Now that the Crusade is ready to go, why shouldn't everyone here be the first to fight!"
"Deus vult!"
The priest shouted from above.
There were sparse responses from the audience...
The enthusiasm of the Crusades was a naked burden to these peasants.
The peasants present had heard the priest's sermon dozens of times, and the Franks present knew exactly what the priest was going to say next.
"It's not enough to just pay taxes! It's not enough to just serve in the army!"
"Paying taxes is your obligation! Serving the country is your duty!"
"Now the evil king of the pagans, Saladin, has evil intentions towards our kingdom, and is eager to drive us out of this sacred land! He will rape us! Kill us! Sell us into slavery!"
"In order to prevent that tragic scene from happening, everyone here should consciously work for the lord!"
"Deus vult!" In the manor economy, land can be roughly divided into two types. One is leased to free people or serfs, and the lord collects rent at different prices from those lands.
The other type is the allotment of land belonging to the lord or the church. The serfs need to work on the allotment of land for free every week, and all the output belongs to the lord or the church.
But among those present here, the peasants who can come to attend Sunday Mass, who is not a Frank! Who is not a freeman!
The priest's words clearly meant that he was trying to trick the free people present into doing the work of serfs.
At the beginning, there may be some fools who are really enthusiastic about doing it, but as time goes by, such fools begin to become numb.
But some things, once started, it is not so easy to shirk them.
It is just like in the workplace in later generations, the greater your ability, the more work you get; the more you can work overtime, the more overtime you get.
After the free people opened the door to free labor, things gradually became a routine and a tradition.
Anyone who refused this honorable contribution would be accused of refusing to contribute to the cause of the Crusades.
After saying this nonsense, the priest swept his eyes over the many believers present. His gaze was like that of a greedy beast, selecting someone to devour.
"Last week, some of you here escaped from your faith and rejected your devotion. People like this really don't know what gratitude is and what piety is!"
"The Lord's grace has blessed you, the Lord's grace has rewarded you, but some of you have no ambition to make progress! No reward! Only want to be lazy and live in mediocrity! When the pagans come to kill you one day, it will be too late for you to regret it!"
"Are you worthy of the food you eat every day? Are you worthy of the lord's kindness? Can you repay all that kindness?"
As he spoke, the priest got so angry that he started pointing fingers on the spot.
"It's you who didn't go to work last week. It's you! And you!"
Garys noticed one thing: the people the priest was pointing at were all those who knelt down and cried to the butler yesterday, including Jacques' family.
Obviously, these families had their own fields to cultivate, and in the absence of strong labor, they simply could not spare anyone to do voluntary labor for the lord or the church.
It's clearly bullying these families!
The priest paused for a moment, his eyes were like torches, and he shouted loudly: "I warn you, all the families who are unwilling to make sacrifices, be careful, I have reason to suspect that you are spies of the pagans! Are you the pagans' spies!"
The sunlight is pale, the world is gray, and the stone pillars are like silent giants, supporting the towering dome.
The light shone in from the shabby stained windows, but it had no color at all. Heavy shadows covered everything, and a deep oppression was placed on everyone present.
The villagers listened like zombies, none of them feeling true redemption or hope.
In this gray world, only the priest on the stage has color. His clothes are bright and colorful, brighter than gold.
Only he was shouting loudly, standing at the highest point of faith, and rebuking the Lamb of the Lord in the name of God.
In this way, everyone was enduring until a young man suddenly stood up from the audience. He no longer listened silently to the priest's pointing and criticizing, but shouted loudly instead.
"Bullshit! It stinks! There is no such perverted logic as yours in the world!"
Second update. I'm going to have a meal. I'll update another chapter before 12 o'clock.
