Chapter 67 The Mystery of the Fake Man
Chapter 67 The Mystery of the Fake Man
There was dead silence in the dark sewer, with only Matt's subtle and rhythmic breathing as the sound.
He knew what SHIELD meant, and he was also very clear that even though SHIELD had been announced to be disbanded that year, for a long time afterwards, there was still a group of people who inherited the name of SHIELD and acted in the dark.
However, he had always been active in Hell's Kitchen and had never come into contact with this organization, so he didn't know why they came to him at this time.
"I know you are doubting my identity, but please believe me, I am not your enemy. Otherwise, there is no need for me to tell you this at this time."
The woman who called herself Claire stood there. She could see that the man in front of her was seriously injured and had to be rescued as soon as possible.
But she also knew that she couldn't act rashly. At least, she couldn't do anything controversial before the other party gave her some trust.
Matt licked the blood that had long dried on his lips and finally spoke.
"You suspect your boss is a 'fake'."
"How can you be sure that the me standing in front of you right now is not a fake person?"
The hoarse voice sounded like a broken bellows, and Matt's throat felt like it was on fire.
Hearing this, Claire frowned slightly, but she quickly reacted and took out a tablet from her arms. After a pause, she said in a deep voice.
"I have some evidence in my hand. The files of the explosion have been deleted by someone, but I made a backup in advance. If the records have not been modified, the blood of those fake people should be blue."
As she spoke, Claire looked at Matt, who was covered in scarlet blood. The meaning was obvious.
But after hearing the other party's explanation, Matt twitched the corners of his mouth and revealed a meaningful smile.
Perhaps no one in the entire Hell's Kitchen knew more about the explosion than Matt, because he, as Daredevil, was at the scene when the explosion occurred.
Even the explosion was closely related to him.
After pondering for a moment, Matt shook his head slightly.
"Your information is outdated. It is true that the blood of those guys is blue, but that was when they were dying. As long as they are alive, their blood will still change color."
Upon hearing this, Claire's expression suddenly changed, but she quickly adjusted herself. "I wasn't sure at first, but now, I don't think those fake people would reveal such important information to me."
Matt smiled. "Are you here to investigate the bombing?"
"Yes and no, I came here mainly to see you."
Claire put away the tablet and spoke in a slightly serious tone.
"I suspect that something has mixed into our world and replaced some of the original people. They look the same as the people we know, but their inner selves have been replaced by something else."
"It looks like you've seen what those things are capable of," Matt said softly.
"I'm not sure yet, but after the Hydra incident, I found that since the Shining Crisis, many people in the Avengers base have looked strange to me." Claire answered truthfully. "I don't know who I should trust now. Maybe you can help me."
Listening quietly to Claire's words, Matt made some judgments in his mind.
Although he still didn't trust the woman 100%, the hostility Matt showed was not as strong as at the beginning. "How did you find me?" Matt asked.
"Since you started operating in Hell's Kitchen, some of our agents have tried to contact you. However, due to a series of reasons, our activities in Hell's Kitchen have not made any progress. But this time, I have no other choice but to give it a try. Fortunately, I am lucky."
Claire still didn't know that the man standing in front of her was blind. She took out her cell phone, gestured, and continued.
"I have two action teams in New York. Although they are both on the Shutter List, the intelligence they left for me is still there. I found you by following Temple's lead."
"Midnight nurse." Now Matt knew why the other party found his location.
In order to ensure that the information could still be delivered even if he died at the hands of those guys, Matt left a tape recorder with a message he had recorded in advance at Claire Temple's house.
Claire Temple, who has the same name as Claire in front of us but is black, is called the midnight nurse. She has no special abilities, but she has been privately helping the heroes of Hell's Kitchen and treating their injuries.
In addition to Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and others are very familiar with her.
However, now they have all been reduced to ashes by Thanos's snap, even the invulnerable Luke Cage has turned into ashes.
Thinking of this, Matt held up his body to prevent himself from falling, and said, "We should leave. It's not safe here."
Seeing this, Claire quickly took two steps forward to help him up, and then said, "Come to my place. My agents have several safe houses here that can be used."
After saying this, Claire suddenly felt that her words were a bit easy to be misunderstood, so she continued to add.
"Don't worry. My agents have been in direct contact with me. I am the only one who knows about the safe house they set up. SHIELD has no records of it."
"That's good." Matt nodded. He did not refuse Claire's support because he knew he was almost reaching his limit. "By the way, how many people know about your discovery of those fake people?"
"I didn't tell anyone because I wasn't sure how many of them were 'them'. I wanted to go find the Avengers, but I found that I was being followed. I guess my superiors noticed me and tried to get rid of me."
Claire recalled the scene at the Avengers base before, the vague sense of being watched, and those emotionless and strange gazes. Whenever she thought of this, she felt a chill at the bone.
"My original mission was to count and reclaim those safe houses, and that's when I thought of my team of agents and the bombing in Hell's Kitchen."
Claire turned to look at Matt and continued.
"I made up a random excuse, took some equipment and left the Avengers base. I knew those people wouldn't let me go so easily, so I didn't dare take the main road. It took me a long time to get here."
"How did you shake off those stalkers?" Matt asked suddenly.
"I didn't shake it off."
Claire replied.
"I just hid the SHIELD car and stole another car on the side of the road to get here."
