Chapter 849 59 Velociraptors

Chapter 849, Section 59: Velociraptor

Karl stepped back into the underground space he had visited before, and all he felt was darkness.

The air in the underground laboratory was murky and damp, filled with the pungent smell of disinfectant mixed with iron. Carl turned on his night vision goggles and saw twisted metal supports and shattered concrete blocks in the darkness.

This place had clearly been deliberately blasted, and the environment was severely damaged. In Karl's view, every spot was on the verge of collapse.

"God, this place is worse than a junkyard," Jack muttered, cautiously scanning his surroundings with his 'Golden Fierce Woman' in hand. Oliver followed silently behind, his prosthetic eye glowing faintly red in the darkness as he continuously scanned the environmental data.

“We’re almost at the entrance, Karl. You said you’d been here before. In your memory, how long is it from the core of the laboratory?”

Oliver looked around as he asked Carl a question, and Carl, after a moment's thought, replied:

"It shouldn't be far. Although this place has changed a lot due to the collapse caused by the explosion, in my memory it's almost big enough to enter the laboratory. There's an ecological park inside the laboratory, we can go in and take a look. Wait a minute, there seems to be an experimental chamber over there."

Karl's gaze swept over an experimental chamber that had probably been blown out by the explosion. The reinforced glass was shattered, and the interior was empty, leaving only a few deep claw marks and viscous glowing liquid.

The eerie, ghostly traces became even denser here, like slimy trails left by some kind of creature.

“Look at these marks,” Karl crouched down, his gloves once again stained with the glowing slime, “they’re not mechanically caused. They’re more like biological secretions.”

Jack leaned closer to take a look, frowned, and said, "What on earth is biotechnology doing here? This looks really strange."

"In my memory, this place was conducting an experiment to resurrect ancient organisms. Although I didn't look closely at the time, I remember that the experiment had progressed to the point where it could create life."
The client said there was only one successful sample, but since they were able to create a successful sample, the biotechnology experiment is probably nearing completion.

As Karl spoke, he approached the experimental chamber damaged in the explosion, only to find that there were no biological fragments or twisted mechanical parts inside, which was not quite right.

If there were experimental subjects here that were damaged by the explosion, then there should be some trace left, whether it's broken limbs or twisted mechanical parts, there should be something.
Judging from its current appearance, it's as if the reinforced glass, having already reached its limit after the explosion, was then broken from the inside by the things inside the biological experimental chamber.

It was as if the creatures within had already broken free of their restraints and escaped.

Think about it for a moment.

Carl frowned, thinking.

Is it theoretically possible to give certain instructions to modified organisms that are still in the experimental stage?
If it is a cautious and well-prepared company, they are very likely to have planted special programs from the early stages of research and development—such as automatically activating them in the event of an accident to launch attacks against unauthorized personnel.

If that's the case, is it possible that the organisms inside the biological experimental chamber sensed the threat of going out of control and acted on pre-programmed instructions, actively breaking open the chamber and escaping?

If this is the case, and if the speculation is correct, then what would this creature do when faced with three 'outsiders' who have no authentication number and have trespassed into the underground laboratory?
Suddenly, Oliver raised his hand to signal for quiet; he seemed to have sensed something.

“There’s movement,” he whispered. “Ten o’clock, in the shadows.” Without another word, the three immediately assumed combat stance. Karl adjusted his night vision mode, and in his field of vision, he saw—several rapidly moving figures weaving through the wreckage at an astonishing speed.

"What is that?" Jack raised his gun.

His answer was a sharp screech, as piercing as metal scraping, and a figure leaped out of the shadows, flashing past his sight.

Carl's heart nearly stopped beating.

It wasn't out of fear or nervousness, but out of disbelief.

The creature he saw had long, powerful hind limbs, razor-sharp claws, and a long tail for balance—it was a velociraptor.

In Carl's memory, Velociraptor was a carnivorous dinosaur that preyed on small dinosaurs and dinosaur eggs. According to the reconstructed biological data, this creature was about a meter long, roughly the size of a turkey.

In other words, this is a dinosaur that, judging from its appearance, might only reach Jack's waist, but based on the figures we've seen so far...
The biotechnology had clearly been added; this velociraptor was about the same size as Jack in terms of size, and what was even more unsettling were its conspicuous implanted metal prosthetics and its red-glowing eyes.

"Damn it!" Jack exclaimed. "They actually resurrected the dinosaurs?"

“I didn’t take it too seriously when Carl told me you’d seen a Triceratops,” Oliver said, his voice low and his eyes fixed on the silhouette moving in the darkness. “But seeing these with my own eyes now—not crude mechanical beasts, but dinosaurs assembled from biomimetic materials and metals, their shapes almost exactly like ancient creatures—it’s like stepping into a childhood nightmare.”

He instinctively gripped his equipment, glancing warily at the dinosaurs moving in the darkness around him. He didn't want to be scratched by one; those sharp, samurai-sword-like claws would definitely not feel pleasant.

“I thought your childhood nightmares, Oliver, would be something like ghosts or monsters,” Jack said in a low voice, a tense chuckle in his voice, “but I never expected it to be dinosaurs.”

Before the words were even finished, the three of them had already unconsciously stood back to back, forming a wary triangular formation. No one dared to be careless in the face of the biotechnology company's experimental product.

In the mercenary business, carelessness always leads to accidents, and vigilance should never be lacking when taking action.

From the shadows, the outlines of the dinosaurs gradually became clear—three velociraptors appeared first, emitting low roars from their throats, and then six more silently emerged from all directions, forming a rapidly closing encirclement.

Their movements were perfectly synchronized, their steps so precise it was breathtaking, as if they had undergone rigorous tactical training, or perhaps they were being controlled in sync by some invisible will.

"It seems that biotechnology also programmed these dinosaurs with military-grade combat procedures."

Carl looked at the nine velociraptors around him: "It's a good thing we didn't send the special operations team down, otherwise even they might have suffered a loss."

At Karl's soft voice, the nine velociraptors that had surrounded them pounced.
