Chapter 959, Chapter 170: Another Bitter Experience for Oliver
Chapter 959, Section 170: One More Bitter Moment for Oliver
Johnny said he won't be coming back tonight.
"understood."
Carl simply nodded calmly, showing no surprise whatsoever at the news Oliver brought.
He had barely taken control of that body when he couldn't wait to slip out of Dogtown and plunge into Night City—Karl didn't need to think too much to guess what Johnny was planning.
If he can return by tomorrow afternoon after meeting his old flame, Carl is considered Johnny to be showing restraint.
I just hope he doesn't ruin his new body; if he does, he'll be gone.
However, considering how emotionally charged he was when he parted ways with Ultraman not long ago, and then immediately went to see Rogue, Karl doesn't know how to evaluate this.
If I had to put it simply, I'd say he's very strong.
That's the kind of bastard Johnny would do.
However, Carl himself didn't have much to say about these kinds of things. Relationships are troublesome enough on their own, not to mention that similar situations are not uncommon in their team.
Take Jack for example—his relationship with Misty is stable, but when it comes to Camilla, the former lover of a high-ranking member of the Valentino gang, their interactions are inevitably tinged with a subtle and ambiguous tension.
Although Jack never did anything to wrong Misty and deliberately reduced his contact with Camilla, Mrs. Wells' "Wild Wolf" bar was a frequent gathering place for the Valentino gang, so even if Jack didn't mean to, the two still ran into each other quite often.
Fortunately, Jack's activities have now shifted to Dogtown. If he were still spending his time at the Wolf Bar as before, his frequent and unavoidable encounters with his ex-girlfriend would inevitably cause Misty some concern.
In this matter, Karl naturally stood on Misty's side without reservation, or rather, no one in the KK team was not on Misty's side. However, it would be too deliberate to prevent them from ever coming into contact with each other.
Therefore, Jack has no choice but to control this situation himself.
Compared to Jack, who at least values past relationships, and Johnny, who has been involved with both of them and hasn't broken off his old flame, V is actually the most innocent one in the team.
Although she had dated before when she was in the tribe, after being with Panan, it has to be said that Panan and V's personalities are really compatible. The two of them are a match made in heaven, and they get along very well with almost no worries.
The only 'drawback' might be that both of them are too career-oriented and have their own things to do, so they can't be together every day.
Compared to these
Carl glanced at Oliver, who was working beside him, shook his head slightly, and remained silent.
Let's not think about Oliver anymore; after all, he's still working with me right now.
Just when Carl thought the day would pass peacefully, he received a message on his phone.
"I'd like to talk to you about that person. Do you have time?"
The message comes from Blanca.
Karl stared at the message for a few seconds, his gaze lingering on the word 'that person'.
In the coded language of Carl and Blanca's conversations, only one person was qualified to be addressed as "that person" by Blanca.
That was Rosalind Myers, the president of the new United States.
Carl understood perfectly and replied.
Is it a big deal?
The coded meaning of this sentence is: Does Rosalind Miles have something she needs to discuss with you?
"Just some personal matters."
Blanca's reply implied that it was a personal matter.
Is it about Blanca personally, or something involving Rosalind Miles?
What could happen at a time like this? Carl had many guesses, but none of them could confirm anything.
After all, there was too little information.
so.
Is it about you?
"Ah."
That's it.
That being the case.
"Then I'll come. Where?"
Blanca didn't reply. In response to Carl's question about the location, she sent over a string of data.
"time?"
"The sooner the better, I'll be waiting for you at Blues."
Blanca's words sounded like she was referring to a place called the Blues, but considering the time Karl had asked about earlier, he quickly understood what she meant.
Blanca was referring to the Blues.
The so-called blue hour refers to the twenty minutes before sunrise and after sunset, when the sky displays a unique deep blue hue due to the refraction of light, making it a particularly suitable time for photography enthusiasts.
To put it simply, Blanca would wait for Carl at that spot for forty minutes every day, twenty minutes before sunrise and twenty minutes after sunset, until Carl arrived.
Such vigilance, coupled with the use of data decoding methods and language known only to herself and her, suggests that this matter involving the president's private affairs is not simple.
Carl sensed a bit of trouble, but he was still prepared to go, and he would go today.
There's still some time before sunset, so Carl can prepare properly and then make a disguised departure ahead of schedule to ensure that outsiders with ulterior motives don't find out that he's leaving Dogtown.
There's still plenty of time, the only problem is...
Carl looked at the pile of work at his hands, then at Oliver beside him, and at T-BUG, who was already asleep in the room in the distance.
Jack went to do some work, V went to negotiate with the wanderers and met with Parnan, Johnny went off to have some fun, T-BUG stayed up all night again and only just got to sleep now, so it's just me and Oliver in the team handling some necessary matters.
These are matters that only they can handle, and it's clear that they can't be resolved before Karl sets off.
This isn't to say that the people below are incompetent, but simply that before the leadership team can operate smoothly, they have to do everything themselves. After all, the people in Dogtown are too chaotic right now, with people from all sides working for Karl. It's impossible to coordinate everything in just over a month.
If Carl decides to go see Blanca, then all the things piling up will probably fall on Oliver's shoulders, and he'll have to work hard and get through the night.
Whether V and Jack can get back in time to help Oliver so he can go to sleep earlier is anyone's guess.
Is he really going to run away and leave all this work to Oliver?
Carl looked at Oliver, who was standing next to him.
Unaware of Carl's thoughts, Oliver continued to work diligently.
Having not watched his favorite Mewtwo for a long time, all he could think about now was finishing his work as soon as possible and relaxing.
According to his plan, he only needed to work for another four hours to finish the job.
Looking at the hardworking Oliver, Carl felt a slight pang of conscience, but then he thought about it again.
These tasks could be easily completed by Oliver with a little effort in one night, but the matters he needed to discuss were likely of great importance and obviously couldn't be delayed for long; otherwise, Blanca wouldn't have said the sooner the better.
So indeed
Oliver will have to suffer a little longer.
