Chapter 42 Firecrackers
"Mom is here." Song Qingfei parked the car in the steel plant's staff quarters and got out with everyone else.

Duran brought her four siblings and came to the gate of a family compound carrying a lot of gifts. Seeing that the gate was open, she went in and shouted, "Mom, eldest brother, eldest sister-in-law, second brother, second sister-in-law."

The people in the room heard the sound and came out immediately. A tall, thin, fair-skinned middle-aged man ran over and took the things from Duran's hand, saying, "You came whenever you wanted. Why did you buy so many things?"

"We must buy New Year gifts for the New Year." Duran, with his hands free, told the children to call people, especially Shen Feifei, and said, "Fei Fei, this is your uncle."

"Happy New Year, uncle!" Shen Feifei called sweetly, "Okay, okay, come in quickly, almost everyone in the family has arrived, let's go in and chat." Uncle Du Sheng greeted.

When everyone walked into the house and saw it was full of people, Shen Feifei sighed in her heart that this was truly a prosperous house.

It turned out that the Du family lived in a county not far from Lifeng Village. Later, Du Lan followed Commander Shen to join the army, and then came to Beijing to settle down. People from the Du family came to the door and asked Commander Shen to help arrange jobs for Du Lan's brothers. Commander Shen thought that he had no relatives at home anymore.

Du Lan's family came over and offered to help, so they agreed. Then they arranged for Du Lan's older brother Du Sheng, who was relatively educated, to work as a cashier in the steel plant, and for his second brother Du Feng to work as a worker in a car repair shop. These jobs were the best.

So the whole family came to live in Beijing, but the Du family was still not satisfied and asked for help to find jobs for Du Lan's sister and brother-in-law. Chief Shen thought that they were all family, so he arranged for Du Lan's sister Du Mei to work as a female worker in a cotton mill, and her brother-in-law also worked in a cotton mill.

Later, he asked his two daughters-in-law to find jobs. Chief Shen was really annoyed. This family was sucking his blood!

So, Chief Shen refused sternly and asked Du Lan to go to her parents' home less often. He himself would not come if possible. This New Year, Chief Shen did not come with them on the grounds that he was busy with work, but he specifically asked Song Qingfei to keep an eye on his mother and not let her agree to anything from the Du family.

Chief Shen was so regretful. He wondered why he was so short-sighted back then and brought so much trouble upon himself.

Sitting at the head of the room were Old Lady Du and Old Man Du, followed in order by the plump eldest sister-in-law Du, the fair and strong second brother Du Feng, the somewhat mean-looking second sister-in-law Du Mei, the younger aunt who looked somewhat like Du Lan, and the ordinary-looking younger uncle-in-law Wu Jianshe.

After Du Lan introduced Shen Feifei, he asked the children to call people. Song Qingfei brought his younger brothers and sisters to pay New Year's greetings to the elders, and then his aunt, grandmother, and aunt gave them red envelopes.

After giving out the red envelopes, it was still early and the adults in the house were chatting, so they let the children go out to play. Song Qingfei stayed in the house because he had to look after his mother, while Shen Feifei, Shen Yaoyang and Shen Yueru went out with the children from their grandmother's house.

As soon as he walked out of the courtyard gate, Shen Yaoyang opened the red envelope and saw that there was only 20 cents in it. He curled his lips and said, "I knew that every year my mother would give them a 5 yuan red envelope, and they only gave 20 cents."

Hearing Shen Yaoyang's complaints, Shen Yueru told him to shut up: "Stop talking. If someone hears you later, we'll start quarreling again. When you get home, your mother will blame you for being ignorant."

"Tsk—" Shen Yaoran took out the money from the red envelope irritably and put it in his cross pocket, "Mom is partial and never lets me talk."

They were wandering outside when suddenly something was thrown at their feet. Then, before they could react, more things were thrown at them one after another, making a clattering sound. It turned out to be firecrackers.

The sudden sound of cannon fire scared the three of them. Shen Yueru almost cried, and Shen Yaoyang had already started crying. A boy who was a few years older than Shen Yaoyang was still holding the unfired cannon in his hand, pointing at them and laughing.

The boy was Du Dexin, the youngest son of his second uncle, and the girl standing next to him was his sister Du Mei. Although her name was Du Mei, she was not very pretty. She inherited the inverted triangle eyes of Du Ersao, and she did not inherit the white skin of the Du family, so she looked dark and yellow.

Du Mei crossed her arms and said hypocritically: "Hey, why are you here? Xiaoxin didn't see you just now. I'm so sorry. Are you okay?" Then she pulled Du Dexin in front of the three people and said: "Xiaoxin, apologize quickly."

"Oh, I'm sorry." He looked indifferent and his tone was extremely perfunctory, which made people angry.

Shen Yaoyang wanted to beat up the fat guy opposite, but was stopped by Shen Feifei and Shen Yueru. Shen Feifei stopped him because she thought of a better way to teach the other party a lesson, and Shen Yueru stopped him because she knew that Shen Yaoyang couldn't beat the other party, and might even turn the tables on him, so she didn't want Shen Yaoyang to suffer.

Seeing that the other party didn't say anything, the Du siblings felt bored and turned away. They didn't dare to go too far, otherwise they would be punished when they returned home.

As for why they did this, firstly, they disliked the other party and were jealous of their good life; secondly, they often heard the adults in the family complain that their uncle was capable but did not help their mother find a job, so they resented them.

They don't even think about how much work Chief Shen has arranged for the Du family and how much help he has given them. This is just a case of repaying a debt of gratitude with a vengeance.

A bunch of ungrateful people who only remember grudges and not kindness.

Shen Yaoyang was so angry that he started crying as he watched them walk away: "Why did you stop me? I'm going to complain."

"Don't cry, come back and let your brother teach them a lesson behind their backs. But if we make this matter public, grandma will say we are making a fuss out of nothing. Mom becomes confused when she sees grandma, and she will definitely not take our side, so we will be in the wrong in the end." Shen Yueru analyzed for him.

Shen Feifei was standing aside and suddenly said, "Do you want revenge? If you do, just listen to me."

The two looked at each other, then looked at Shen Feifei together. Then they heard Shen Feifei whisper something to them. The two nodded, and the three of them started to act.

After a while, Shen Feifei hid in the corner with firecrackers and matches she had just bought nearby, waiting for someone to come, and heard footsteps getting closer.

"Shen Yueru, what's the point of you complaining? You said it wasn't intentional. Besides, Xiaoxin has already apologized to you. Why are you still not giving up?" Du Mei's complaining voice was heard.

Shen Yueru was afraid that Shen Feifei couldn't hear her, so she deliberately said loudly: "Anyway, my brother is scared and crying, you have to go back to grandma's house with me and explain it clearly."

As soon as she finished speaking, Shen Yaoyang came over like a small cannonball and knocked down Du Mei and her brother. Seeing the two of them fall to the ground, Shen Yueru and Shen Yaoyang quickly ran away.

Shen Feifei aimed at the direction and threw the lit firecrackers over, but fearing that they would really hurt someone and blame her, Shen Feifei didn't dare throw it too close.
