Chapter 58: Have a Home
At first, Yin Xingyue disliked her grandmother very much.

That was when her father had just passed away and her mother sent her back to the countryside.

She thought her grandmother was old and ugly, and she looked down on her because she was a girl.

She clearly remembered that her grandmother often looked at her and sighed, "It would be great if you were a boy..."

But she didn't know when she started to like her grandmother.

Maybe she wanted to talk about eating chicken. In the middle of winter, when it was freezing cold, she got up early in the morning and killed a chicken for her...

Maybe she wanted a ballpoint pen, so she walked through the mud on a rainy day to buy her a pen, but she ended up buying her a pencil instead...

Maybe it was because she cried and made a fuss, but she never got angry, but just used her rough hands to caress her cheeks with a smile...

Maybe it was in the summer, when I was lying beside her, closing my eyes and gently fanning her with a palm-leaf fan...

……

Yin Xingyue didn't answer her grandmother's question, and her grandmother didn't ask any more questions.

The two went to town together, and grandma went to the scrap yard to sell things as usual.

But she did not rush back home dragging her cart as usual.

Instead, I went to a store in town and bought a headband.

It was a very old-fashioned headband, black, made of wire, without any decorative embellishments.

Grandma put the headband on her head and asked Yin Xingyue with a smile.

"Isn't this much more convenient?"

"Grandma is very beautiful." Yin Xingyue said happily.

Grandma said with a smile: "You are an old lady now, what is there to watch?"

Then she took Yin Xingyue's hand, went to the toy store next door, and bought her a pair of butterfly wings that she could wear behind her back.

She chose the biggest and most beautiful one, which was naturally the most expensive.

She pulled an old handkerchief from her pocket and counted the money piecemeal for several minutes before paying.

"Grandma, do you still remember?" Yin Xingyue held the butterfly wings and felt sore in the corners of her eyes.

Apart from stationery and food, her grandmother rarely bought her toys. She felt those things were useless and would eventually be thrown away, which was a complete waste of money.

Her favorite saying is that what you eat is what truly belongs to you.

The last time she wanted her grandmother to buy her a pair of butterfly wings, because she saw a little kid in the village wearing one beautifully.

But grandma always says, "Next time, I'll buy it for you next time..."

And then there won’t be a next time.

Yin Xingyue really wanted to tell her grandmother that she no longer liked this, she had grown up and was no longer a little girl.

But - but for some reason, she was still a little happy.

On the way back, grandma helped her carry it on her back.

"It's so beautiful, just like a little fairy." Grandma said with a smile.

"Grandma, I'm dead and now I'm a ghost, not a fairy," said Yin Xinyue.

Grandma was silent after hearing this. She walked for a long distance before she said, "But I feel like you are still alive. You don't look dead at all. Is it your mother who lied to me?"

Yin Xingyue shook her head and then told her about Shen Siyuan.

“It turns out that I have met the master.”

When grandma heard this, she was very happy for Yin Xingyue.

"Then you must thank him very much." Upon hearing this, grandma asked in detail what the master's name was and where he lived.

Yin Xingyue thought it was just a casual chat with her grandmother, so she told her grandmother.

About two weeks later, one day when Shen Siyuan got off work and returned home, he saw a note on the door saying that someone was looking for him at the community security office.

So he met the old woman. She arrived in the morning and waited until he got off work. She was carrying a slaughtered chicken, a basket of eggs, some small change wrapped in a handkerchief, and the butterfly wing. No one knew how she found it or how she brought these things here...

This is all later story, so let’s not discuss it for now.

From beginning to end, grandma never asked Yin Xingyue why she committed suicide.

Instead, Yin Xingyue couldn't help but ask her grandmother why she didn't ask?
Grandma said: "When people are alive, they often encounter obstacles that they cannot overcome. When I was young, I often wanted to die, but I was an adult, so I gritted my teeth and got through it. But you are still a child, so it is normal that you cannot overcome it..."

Yin Xingyue burst into tears when she heard this.

She hadn't cried like this in a long, long time.

Grandma stroked her cheeks and wiped her tears with her rough hands.

She said with tears in her eyes: "The thing that grandma regrets most is handing you over to your mother. She is your mother, she should have helped you to overcome the difficulties..."

"I don't want to either..."
-
"Mom, was my dad really a gangster in the past?"

Seeing her father go to the kitchen, Zhu Tingting asked her mother in a low voice.

Du Xiuzhi pulled her daughter into her arms, stroked her hair, and said softly, "Don't listen to what outsiders say. Your father was very honest when he was young."

"But...but..."

"You mean the tattoo on your father's arm?"

Du Xiuzhi turned her daughter's body and looked at her.

Zhu Tingting nodded obediently.

"He got that tattoo on purpose to protect me. I guess he must have cried loudly at that time. When your father was young, he was a little crybaby, crying at the slightest provocation..."

Zhu Tingting widened her eyes in disbelief.

"Mom didn't lie."

Du Xiuzhi talked about the past with a smile.

"That's me. Your father and I are neighbors, but I, your mother, am a good student, while your father is a fool. So when he was in junior high school, he dropped out of school and worked outside..."

"He works part-time and has money, so he often buys things for me..."

"Later, some accidents happened in my family. Your grandparents passed away. My relatives saw that I was a little girl and thought I was easy to bully. They showed up one after another and came to make trouble..."

"Your father protected me, quarreled with them, and made trouble with them..."

"In order to scare them, your father got a tattoo and dyed his hair. He held a knife and chopped while crying, scaring all my relatives away..."

"Later, your father was arrested by the police and imprisoned for several months. But before he was arrested, he threatened my relatives, saying that if they bullied me again, he would kill their entire family when he was released..."

"Then no one dared to bully me anymore..."

"Wow, Dad is awesome."

Zhu Tingting's eyes widened. She had never felt so admiring of her father before.

"So, you can't be too weak. If you are weak, you will be bullied. You must first learn to be strong. Don't hide some things from your closest people. You must face them together and solve the problems. You are still a child..."

Du Xiuzhi tapped her nose lightly, hinting at something.

"Then...what happened next?"

"Later... Later your father went to work and I continued to go to school. After I graduated, we got married, and then you were born..."

Du Xiuzhi smiled and fell into memories.

Zhu Guangfa came out of the kitchen and saw the mother and daughter smiling happily.

He said suspiciously, "Are you saying bad things about me?"

"Mom said you were a little crybaby when you were young."

"How can you say this to her? I don't have any face?" Zhu Guangfa yelled.

The mother and daughter laughed even louder.
