This protective shell can withstand a high temperature of 1650 degrees Celsius, far exceeding the extreme accident temperature of 1200 degrees Celsius.” Zhu Zhiwei made the temperature comparison.
"This means that the temperature generated by an extreme accident is far below the fuel failure threshold. Even in the most extreme accident, radioactive materials will be firmly contained within the ceramic shell, and there will be no serious nuclear radiation leakage problem," Zhu Zhiwei explained.
