Chapter 456 The Arrival
Chapter 456 The Arrival (1st Update)
Shiraishi E stood quietly outside the ward door, her hands in her pockets, glancing at the closed door every now and then.
The smell of disinfectant mixed with the cold atmosphere unique to hospitals in the corridor made him feel a little uncomfortable.
He glanced at his watch; almost an hour had passed, and Akemi and Ai still hadn't come out.
"It seems they'll need more time than expected..." he muttered to himself, a knowing smile playing on his lips.
Finally, the door to the ward was gently pushed open.
Akemi was the first to step out, followed by Ai, whose eyes were also red.
Both of their eyes were red and swollen, with tear stains still clinging to their eyelashes, clearly indicating that they had just experienced an emotional outburst.
Akemi's nose was slightly red, while Ai pursed her lips tightly, seemingly still trying to calm herself down.
Shiraishi E raised an eyebrow and teased in a lighthearted tone, "Looks like I guessed right, you really are crying your eyes out."
These words brought tears to Akemi's eyes again. She rushed forward and hugged Shiraishi E tightly, burying her face in his shoulder.
Her voice choked with emotion, yet utterly sincere: "Thank you... I'm so grateful... Without you, we might never have known..."
Shiraishi E was taken aback by her sudden hug and was somewhat at a loss for words.
If you asked him to blow up the Empire State Building, he wouldn't even blink.
But it would be a real headache for him to deal with a girl who was crying loudly.
He could only mutter some meaningless words: "No need to be so polite, it's what I should do."
Ai waited patiently until her sister emerged from Shiraishi E's arms, then she asked, "What exactly happened? Please tell us in detail."
Although her voice was calm, her tightly clenched hands betrayed her inner anxiety.
Shiraishi looked around. There were busy medical staff in the corridor. He lowered his voice and said, "This is not the place to talk. Let's leave first."
The three of them walked towards the elevator in tacit agreement, without saying a word the whole way.
Akemi and Ai only relaxed a little after getting into Shiraishi E's car.
Shiraishi started the engine, and the car smoothly drove out of the hospital parking lot, blending into the traffic of the Tokyo night.
On his way home, he told the two sisters what had happened.
Akemi and Ai listened intently, sometimes surprised, sometimes enlightened, the atmosphere in the carriage both tense and relieved!
Ai Haibara never imagined that her mother had an older sister, and that her sister was even an MI6 agent!
Akemi, standing to the side, felt somewhat guilty because she had never told Ai Haibara about Shuichi Akai being her cousin.
"I never imagined there were such hidden details about what happened back then." Ai's eyes flickered as she tried to process these things.
She then asked, "Do you know the specific process?"
“I didn’t ask. At the time, I didn’t even know if Kenzo Masuyama was making up a story,” Emi Shiraishi said unhurriedly. “But now that it’s confirmed, I can go and ask him slowly.”
"That's true." After calming down, Ai gradually composed herself. "Please ask me in more detail; I know the full story from back then!"
“Okay, we’ll wear headphones then. If you have any questions, just ask me.” Shiraishi E said it was no problem, then asked, “What are your plans next?”
Akemi knew the other person was talking about her mother. She hesitated for a moment, then turned to Ai and said, "I want to bring Mom home... Ai, do you think... it's okay?"
“Okay.” Ai agreed without hesitation, saying, “But we still need some medical equipment to maintain Mom’s vital signs. As for that… I can only ask Shiraishi-kun for help.”
"Okay, I'll get it for you tomorrow." Shiraishi E said, thinking to herself: If I wasn't afraid of scaring you, I would have gotten it for you as soon as I got back.
"That's great!" Mingmei excitedly waved her fist, her eyes full of anticipation.
Back at the Miyano residence, Shiraishi took out a pair of wireless earphones from her pocket, gently inserted them into her ears, and tapped the side of the earphones twice with her fingers to confirm that the communication signal was stable before nodding to Ai: "Keep in touch, and notify me immediately if anything unusual happens."
Ai crossed her arms and regained her usual composure: "Understood."
Shiraishi E said nothing more and walked towards the basement with Akemi. The basement door was pushed open, and Masuyama Kenzo was lying on the sofa with his eyes closed, resting. Hearing the noise, he slowly opened his eyes, his gaze lingering on Akemi's gentle expression for a moment, before revealing a knowing smile: "It seems that you have already met Elena."
He paused, then added in a relaxed tone, "So... could I have another bottle of wine?"
Shiraishi E walked calmly to him, nodded and said, "Of course. Since you've shown your sincerity, I won't be stingy with mine."
After saying that, he turned to look at Mingmei and said, "Go and get a bottle of good wine."
Mingmei gave a soft "hmm," turned around, and left the basement, her footsteps fading into the distance.
Shiraishi sat down on the sofa on the other side, spread her arms, put one leg up, and said, "Now, let's talk about the specifics of the laboratory fire back then."
Kenzo Masuyama exhaled a smoke ring, his expression calm, as if he had already expected him to ask this question.
He said in a flat tone, "Actually... I don't know much about the lab back then either."
“I can’t go into a place like a laboratory, so the arson plan was carried out by the Miyano couple themselves.”
“After we agreed on the details, we started taking action. However, as for whether there were any mishaps along the way…” He shook his head and said, “I don’t know.”
Shiraishi E frowned slightly—this was tantamount to not getting any information at all.
However, Kenzo Masuyama's words made sense. The laboratory had an extremely high level of security, and the organization would not allow an assassin to come and go as he pleased.
He remained silent for a moment, then finally said calmly, "In that case, let's forget about it."
Just then, Akemi returned, carrying a bottle of aged whiskey.
She walked up to Kenzo Masuyama, poured him a glass herself, then bowed slightly and said sincerely, "Thank you... for paying for my mother's medical expenses all these years."
Kenzo Masuyama took the glass, gently swirled it, and the amber liquid shimmered under the light.
He smiled and said casually, "Don't mention it, it's nothing."
Akemi then said, "We plan to bring Mom out of the hospital."
Kenzo Masuyama took a sip of his drink and nodded, saying, "Of course, no problem. However, I need to be there in person, otherwise the hospital won't release him."
Akemi subconsciously looked at Shiraishi E, who pondered for a moment and nodded, saying, "Okay, we'll go through the discharge procedures tomorrow. Once everything is settled, I'll let you leave."
A hint of joy flashed in Masuyama Kenzo's eyes, and he nodded repeatedly: "Then thank you very much."
He hesitated for a moment, then tentatively asked, "Um... could I use my phone for a moment? I want to let my family know I'm safe."
Shiraishi E remained expressionless, simply pulling a cell phone from her pocket and handing it to him: "Okay."
He wasn't afraid of the other party playing tricks.
Kenzo Masuyama dared not resort to any tricks.
The prerequisite for using tricks is that the people you summon must be able to defeat the ruthless bandits in front of you.
But if the people you call in can't take down the ruthless bandits, then what's the point of calling them in?
Are you trying to get yourself killed by shaking the wheel?
Kenzo Masuyama took the phone and gave a wry smile: "Don't worry, I'm not thinking about that right now."
He dialed the number, gave a few brief instructions to the person on the other end of the phone, and spoke in a calm tone, not at all like someone under house arrest.
After hanging up, he handed the phone back to Shiraishi E and said with a touch of emotion, "When a family business grows big, you have to keep a close eye on many things yourself, otherwise it can easily fall apart."
Shiraishi E didn't reply, but stood up and said to Akemi, "You stay here and talk to him. I'm going upstairs now."
Kenzo Masuyama watched him leave, then asked Akemi, "Are you planning to try to awaken Elena?"
"Yes... that's the idea. My sister is planning to give it a try." Akemi didn't hide anything from her.
Kenzo Masuyama raised his glass and said, "Then I wish you success in advance!"
