Chapter 742 The Pursuit and Revenge of the Three from Nagano Prefecture
Chapter 742 The Pursuit and Revenge of the Three from Nagano Prefecture
Nagano Prefecture, which was still filled with the tranquility of the night just half an hour ago, was now torn apart by a series of urgent telephone rings.
Yamato Kansuke was immersing himself in a steaming bathtub, trying to wash away the day's fatigue, when his cell phone rang at an inopportune time, making him frown.
He impatiently grabbed his phone, but the message coming from the other end of the receiver instantly turned the warm steam in the bathroom into a bone-chilling cold.
"What?! The detention center was hijacked? Koshimizu Nanatsuki was taken away?!" He suddenly sat up in the water, splashing water everywhere. Ignoring his leg injury, he braced himself on the edge of the bathtub and almost rolled out.
"I'm coming right away!" he roared as he hung up the phone, roughly wiping his wet body with a heavy towel, water droplets sliding down his muscular physique.
He moved with such speed that he didn't seem like someone using crutches at all. He practically hopped on one foot to put on his shirt and coat, grabbed the cane leaning against the wall, and plunged into the night, still damp with sweat and filled with fierce anger.
The roar of the engine shattered the silence as the car sped towards the Nagano Prefectural Detention Center like an arrow.
When he limped into the detention center lobby, leaning on his crutches, the scene was already a mess, and the air still faintly smelled of gunpowder from stun grenades and the atmosphere of panic.
Morofushi Takaaki and Uehara Yui had already arrived and were solemnly inspecting the scene.
"What on earth is going on?!" Yamato Kansuke's voice was filled with suppressed anger and rapid breathing, his cane slamming heavily on the ground.
Morabushi Takaaki turned around, his eyes behind his glasses sharp and calm, and stated succinctly: "A group of unidentified, well-equipped armed thugs raided this place using professional methods. Their target was clear: the female suspect named Koshimizu Nanatsuki."
Yui Uehara was operating the computer, retrieving the only remaining surveillance footage.
She pointed to the screen and said, "Their plan was meticulous. As soon as they came in, they used stun grenades to create chaos and immediately and precisely destroyed all the surveillance cameras in key locations. We cannot see the specific route of their subsequent actions or the hostage handover process."
She paused, her tone softening slightly, "However, based on the testimonies of several injured but not life-threatening staff members at the scene, the other party's purpose was limited to kidnapping people, and they did not intend to cause injury or death to police officers. They acted with great restraint."
"A sense of propriety?!" Yamato Kansuke's anger nearly burst forth as he growled, "This arrogant behavior... it must have been done by that guy who slipped away right under our noses last time!!"
He angrily waved his fist, "Too bad! That bastard was wearing a mask, so we couldn't see his face at all!"
Yui Uehara sighed and added, "They were very well covered up, and apart from the bullet casings, there was almost no other valuable evidence left at the scene. The bullets have been sent to the forensics department, but given how cautious these people are, I'm afraid... it's hard to have much hope."
"Damn it! Are we just going to let them get away like this?!" Yamato Kansuke angrily slammed his fist against the wall next to him, making a dull thud, his chest filled with resentment and helplessness.
Yui Uehara remained silent, feeling a bit overwhelmed by such a clean and efficient opponent.
Just as the atmosphere became tense, Morofushi Takaaki, who had been silent all along, slowly spoke, his voice steady yet carrying a power that pierced through the fog: "That's not necessarily true... Dare to help, do you remember why we initially imprisoned Koshimizu Nanatsuki?"
Yamato Kansuke was taken aback upon hearing this, and then a flash of inspiration struck him like lightning.
He looked up abruptly, a sharp glint in his single eye: "It's Inspector Otomo! She was arrested because of her involvement in the murder of Inspector Otomo Kyohei! Their target... may have been Inspector Otomo himself all along!"
Uehara Yui immediately realized what was going on and chimed in, "That's it! The reason they went to such lengths to kidnap Koshimizu Nanatsuki is most likely to silence her or continue their unfinished plan—they're targeting Inspector Otomo!!"
“That’s right, we must find Officer Otomo immediately and ensure his safety!” Morofushi Takaaki said in a deep voice, having already made his judgment.
Without further hesitation, Yamato Kansuke quickly pulled out his phone, frantically searching for a number while saying, "I have his number!"
As soon as the call connected, he practically yelled into the receiver, "Officer Otomo! Listen up! Dangerous criminals have escaped from prison, and we suspect you're their target! You must leave home immediately and find a safe place to hide. Don't trust anyone until we arrive! We're coming to your aid right away!"
After hanging up the phone, he glanced at Morofushi Takaaki and Uehara Yui, and said decisively, "Let's go!"
The three immediately sprang into action, their figures quickly blending into the flashing red and blue lights of the police car as they raced toward the unknown danger.
----------------
The night was thick, and the car silently stopped in the shadows not far from Officer Otomo's house.
The engine shut off, and the carriage fell into a deathly silence, like the calm before a storm.
Nanatsuki Koshimizu took a deep breath and opened the car door.
The cold night wind swept over her, but it could not extinguish the raging fire of hatred burning in her eyes.
She silently picked up a pistol, her movements slightly clumsy yet exceptionally resolute; the cold metallic touch seemed to give her some kind of support.
She pulled the slide of her pistol, chambering a bullet; the "click" sound was particularly jarring in the silence.
Seeing this, Sera Masumi didn't hesitate at all. She also grabbed her smaller and more powerful pistol, jumped out of the car, and quickly followed Koshimizu Nanatsuki.
She didn't say much, but her actions spoke volumes—she was determined to help this place. Inside the car, Mary merely glanced indifferently out the window before looking away, as if what was about to happen outside was none of her concern; she was more interested in how to evacuate safely.
Shiraishi E was even less interested, and even slightly closed her eyes, showing no interest whatsoever in the revenge drama that was about to unfold.
Koshimizu Nanatsuki and Sera Masumi quickly crossed the front yard and arrived at the entrance of the detached house.
Just as Koshimizu Nanatsuki was about to kick the door open, it clicked open from the inside.
Inside the door stood Officer Otomo, carrying simple luggage and looking panicked as he prepared to flee with his family. Behind him were his terrified wife and young son.
The two sides were stunned when they suddenly met under the narrow porch.
The next second, a fierce glint of "effortless" flashed in the eyes of Koshimizu Nanatsuki and Sera Masumi, and they almost simultaneously raised their guns! The dark muzzles of the guns were locked on the family.
"Ah—!" Officer Otomo's wife let out a short scream, tightly hugging her terrified son, her legs going weak.
Officer Otomo himself turned pale, and cold sweat instantly soaked his back.
He suppressed his fear, suddenly spreading his arms wide like a mother hen protecting her chicks, shielding his wife and children behind him. His voice trembled slightly with terror: "You...you...take your anger out on me! Spare my family!"
Koshimizu Nanatsuki stepped forward, the muzzle of her gun almost touching Officer Otomo's forehead. Her voice was as cold as ice as she asked, word by word, "Do you... still remember, Mizuguchi Kana?"
Inspector Otomo's pupils constricted sharply, his face drained of color, and his lips trembled as he made a final, desperate attempt: "I...I don't remember..."
"Bang!" The answer he received was a gunshot that rang out without hesitation!
The bullet pierced his thigh with pinpoint accuracy!
Officer Otomo let out a piercing wail, staggered, and knelt on the ground, his trousers quickly soaked with blood.
Koshimizu Nanatsuki looked down at him, as if issuing a verdict: "The murderer of the Lavender House murder case!!! Do you remember now?!"
The intense pain and fear of death finally shattered all his remaining hope. He collapsed to the ground, looking up at Koshimizu Nanatsuki's hate-filled eyes, and stammered, "I...I remember...you, who are you to her?"
"She was my best friend!" Nanatsuki Koshimizu's voice was filled with barely suppressed sobs and anger. "You drove her to her death!!"
Officer Otomo's face was ashen. He looked at the gun raised again in the other man's hand, then glanced back at his trembling, weeping wife and children. He knew that any excuses were meaningless at this moment and would only lead to more terrible consequences.
With no way out, he gave a bitter smile, as if all his strength had been drained away, and said dejectedly, "Yes... at the time... in order to solve the case as quickly as possible and increase the case-solving rate... I used inappropriate interrogation techniques on her... I, I'm very sorry..."
He gasped for breath, enduring excruciating pain, and struggled to lift his head, his eyes filled with a final plea: "I...I'm willing to pay with my life! Please...let them go...they're innocent..."
"Sorry?!" Koshimizu Nanatsuki's long-suppressed anger finally erupted. She rushed forward and smashed the butt of her pistol hard against Officer Otomo's head, face, and shoulder!
He screamed and roared as he fought, venting his pain and helplessness at losing his best friend.
Officer Otomo curled up, silently enduring the pain, not daring to offer the slightest resistance.
Only when Koshimizu Nanatsuki was somewhat exhausted from the beating, and the anger in her chest seemed to have been slightly released, did she stop, breathing heavily. She looked at the man on the ground, barely alive and covered in blood, and the last trace of hesitation in her eyes disappeared.
She raised the gun, aimed it at his chest, and pulled the trigger.
"Bang!" The gunshot echoed through the quiet street, startling the birds in the distant trees.
Without even glancing at the mother and child who were nearly fainting from fright, Koshimizu Nanatsuki coldly uttered a sentence, like a final verdict: "If you have someone to blame, blame your husband for killing someone else!"
After saying that, she turned around, her steps unsteady yet unusually firm as she walked to the car, opened the door, sat down, tossed the pistol aside, closed her eyes, and leaned back in the seat as if all her strength had been exhausted.
Sera Masumi glanced around warily, and after confirming that there was nothing amiss, she quickly returned to the driver's seat and started the car.
The vehicle smoothly drove away from this place of trouble.
Shiraishi E, sitting in the back seat, yawned lazily as if she had just woken up, rubbed her eyes, and said in a relaxed tone as if she had just finished watching a movie: "Are you done? Let's go get some late-night snacks, I'm a little hungry."
Mary, in the passenger seat, chimed in with a casual agreement: "Yes, I am a little hungry."
While skillfully maneuvering the steering wheel, Sera Masumi tried to lighten the heavy atmosphere in the car, saying, "I know a really good late-night diner nearby, I'll take you there now..."
Before she could finish speaking, a clear and piercing siren sounded from afar, growing louder as it approached, and flashing red and blue lights began to appear faintly at the end of the street.
Sera Masumi sighed helplessly, but a challenging smile appeared on her lips as she subtly increased the pressure on the accelerator: "Sigh... looks like I'll have to shake off these tagalongs before I can go have a midnight snack in peace."
